Boston Globe Joan Anderman
(Duffy) navigates the twisted collision of religious faith and the thrill of the kill, altruism and brutality, with an ingenious mix of humor, horror, mysticism, and just plain hipness.

Variety Robert Koehler
More interested in finding fresh ways to stage execution scenes than in finding meaning behind the human urge for self-appointed righting of wrongs, (the film) is stuffed with effects that have no lasting impact.

LA Weekly Manohla Dargis
(Duffy's) assembled a fine cast -- it's hard to take your eyes off the two young leads -- but he's given them little to do but squeeze triggers and mouth platitudes.

The Onion (A.V. Club) Nathan Rabin
As written and directed by newcomer Troy Duffy, The Boondock Saints is all style and no substance, a film so gleeful in its endorsement of vigilante justice that it almost veers (or ascends) into self-parody.

Jared T. gave it a10:
Pure Classic.

Katie S gave it a7:
I saw this movie with no background or context, and I liked it, but I think I took it in a different spirit than a lot of people did. I interpreted it as one big jokey comic, no serious attempt to make a movie about vigilantism or revenge, and taken in that spirit I found it entertainingly told, edited, and acted. But, yeah, if you try to take it as an effort at anything other than a puffed up comic book, it will seem unutterably stupid.

S K gave it a10:
Loved every second of it. If you enjoy super hero movies, this one is better than most of them plus it has humor, blood, language, and great acting(mostly from Willem).

Jared N gave it a10:
just to explain the iron scene to the people above who criticize it and dot "understand" it. The iron is intended to cotorize the wound or burning the capiliaries shut to stop bleeding and prevent infection. Don't criticize the movie because you don't understand it. It is a movie which builds a conflict between good vs evil and doing what is necessary to save lives even though the method cannt be condoned by the justice system. It is common knowledge that the justice system is flawed and many of guilty are not punished. The "Saints" take judgement into their own hands because of this. This movie is simply a movie about moral, relgious, cultural, and essentially a political conflict.

Brock M. gave it a10:
Best movie ever made!!!!!

Stevn B. gave it a10:
One of the best movies I have seen. I cannot believe the critics rated this movie so horribly.

Doyle gave it an8:
For those of you that haven't noticed this movie has either great reviews or bad ones. The bad ones come from people expecting an Oscar film. The good ones come from those that know what a cult film is. This film is a cult film. It is a good film. Watch this film to be entertained. Don't take it serious, and you will love it.
