Los Angeles Times Kevin Thomas
It is a bravura work that attests to Pineyro's command of a style rich in texture and nuance and also of multilayered material.

Burnt Money arranges a triumphant martyrdom for its bad boys -- a redemptive blaze of glory, dozens of faceless corpses notwithstanding.

The passions of "Plata Quemada" are as bold as the images.

Those who hang in for the long haul are rewarded with a sexy, moving love story.

Well worth seeing if you have even the slightest interest in guns and sex and the interplay between the two (and who doesn't?), Burnt Money also has, you'll forgive the pun, style to burn.

The most affecting parts of this film are its quieter, character-driven moments, and it's beautifully acted; if there is indeed an "Argentinean New Wave" afoot, Brédice might be its Anna Karina.

This isn't entertainment for the faint of heart.

Director Marcelo Pineyro imbues the film with mood and style and yet the violent climax holds little thrall as a lack of character development makes it had to care about the robbers' fate.

A stylish look and a fair amount of hot and heavy sex (mostly hetero), and the final shootout is pretty nifty.

What makes this one stand out is the tugging, melancholy romance hiding behind the curtain of blood.
Mr. Showbiz Kevin Maynard
This bed-swapping crime story is ultimately too protracted, but Piñeyro's direction is richly atmospheric, full of noir shadows and strong period detail.
Boston Globe Wesley Morris
Hopped up on standard action riffs, most of the film feels like hand-me-downs purchased from the John Woo outlet.

Stephen G. gave it a10:
Fascinating story, great cinematography, perfect casting, and nailed acting. If done in Hollywood it would have walked away with at least 5 academy awards, but Hollywood hasn't the talent to make this kind of compelling and captivating picture anymore.
Paul M. gave it a10:
I have an absolute fettish with this film. The acting is superb.
Josh M. gave it a 10:
Amazing, compelling and very very sexy. This is an incredible film. Brillant acting and breathtakingly grity cinematography, you have to see this film.
Ma mad gave it a 10:
The most beautiful love story. I'm very impressed. Two wonderful the most tallented actors( two my favourite acteurs - I admire their way of creating and tallent to show the most deep inside feeling, this courage and sensitive way of act. They not acting they are and existe, it's wnoderfull and takes my breath away), sensibile, intuity, tenderess...and great job of director. Sensual and fragile, male and delicate, true of love. Love stronger than death. By the way, it's true story and Marcello Pineyro must be very sensitive and receptive to deep human feeling. Chapeaux bas Madames et Monsieurs.
L. Galloway gave it a 9:
Incredibly well acted and direction was rich. Worth viewing more than once.
Bill S. gave it an 8:
Apocolyptic finish not withstanding -- one of the sexiest gay love stories I have ever seen.
Patrick S. gave it a 2:
Overwrought. If these characters were heteros, this film would be lambasted as absurd and ridiculous. Despite 'gay' characters, the film's protagonists are either a) miserably confused; or b) having sex with a woman. Ack. It is a bad film.
