Entertainment Weekly Owen Gleiberman
The most resonant and haunting movie I've seen this year.
Read Full Review >Rolling Stone Peter Travers
One of the year's best and most provocative films.
Film.com Ernest Hardy
One of the best films of the year. Queer in every sense of the word, it's poignant, laugh-out-loud funny and thoroughly provocative.
Read Full Review >Chicago Reader Lisa Alspector
Possibly the most daring and honest drama about sexuality I've ever seen.
Read Full Review >Boston Globe Jay Carr
It's all we ask of a film but almost never get, as it first makes us squirm, then makes us cheer.
Read Full Review >Slate David Edelstein
Might be the most perversely agreeable stalker picture ever made.
Read Full Review >Austin Chronicle Marjorie Baumgarten
The kind of movie that gets under your skin and takes root.
Read Full Review >Chicago Tribune Mark Caro
You wouldn't think the darn thing would have such lingering power.
Portland Oregonian Shawn Levy
For a picture about a stalker, Chuck and Buck is rather sweet, funny and winning.
Los Angeles Times Kevin Thomas
Succeeds because it turns out not to be the movie it might so easily have been.

Strange, intense and moving -- one of the few truly grown-up movies you're likely to see this year.
Read Full Review >LA Weekly Ella Taylor
Had this idea been pursued to its conclusion instead of the pat, wishfully ready-for-TV ending we're fed, the movie would be a standout.
Read Full Review >Village Voice J. Hoberman
Manages to be not only consistently droll but cumulatively poignant and even scary.

Chuck and Buck: A fungus among us.
Miami Herald Rene Rodriguez
An oddity, but a remarkably intriguing and original one, and in Buck ... it also has the most unforgettable movie character of the year.
New York Daily News Jack Mathews
A reverse male-bonding tale unlike anything you've ever seen. And it's not the easiest good movie to sit through.
Read Full Review >Chicago Sun-Times Roger Ebert
A fascinating study of behavior that violates the rules.
Read Full Review >San Francisco Examiner Wesley Morris
Comes on like an "After School Special'' psychodrama that's been taken off its medication.
San Francisco Chronicle Edward Guthmann
It becomes stronger and more honest than most character studies on film.
Read Full Review >Dallas Observer Bill Gallo
Arteta and White manage to bring off both the comedy and the tenderness in this tale of a jilted friend who sticks to his passions like chewing gum on a shoe.
Read Full Review >Mr. Showbiz Kevin Maynard
Despite Arteta's best efforts, I eventually stopped caring about their bond because Chuck's character is conceived as such a two-dimensional yuppie.
New York Post Jonathan Foreman
Almost too creepy to be poignant, and generally funny only in an uncomfortable, squirm-in-your seat way.
USA Today Mike Clark
Its premise is so promising that you long for more than Arteta's low-key approach can deliver.
TV Guide Maitland McDonagh
Arteta wrings some laughs from their bizarre (and more than a little frightening situation), but they're uncomfortable laughs, emotional protection from the freak show.
Read Full Review >Seattle Post-Intelligencer Paula Nechak
(Arteta's) yanked an eerily accomplished performance out of his lead actor.
Read Full Review >Time Richard Schickel
Crude and inept.
Baltimore Sun Ann Hornaday
Unlike other movies about unpleasant characters, "In the Company of Men," for example, Chuck & Buck doesn't have that sharp observational edge.

Mike L. gave it a 7:
This movie is one of those "every day life movies" that seems to take a really long time to get to the point (if it has a point at all). It develops on the ideas of childhood inocence, homosexuality and the common decency found in people's lives. I liked it for the way it was able to tie these obscure, unalike entities together. How atypical of our current movie industry.
Aaron F. gave it an 8:
I love this movie, but I can see how some people might become a little uncomfortable. I guess if you are a fan of dark comedy, indie kookiness, or overt homoeroticism, this is the film for you (The acting is also quite good) !!
Tim gave it a 10:
The briliance of this movie is the discomfort that comes from watching it the first time. after seeing it many times, my friends and i love bringing in new people to watch it, more for their reactions than the movie itself.
Lyn C. gave it a 9:
Wow. A bold and truly interesting film. I've never seen anything like it. I am officially a Mike White fan.
Allie J. gave it a 9:
This was good stuff. It wasn't run of the mill blockbuster garbage and maybe thats why some people didnt like it. It's reality and it goes where you dont expect it to. After the first ten minutes I wasnt sure that this was for me - but I got wrapped up in the characters and suddenly I couldnt tear myself away.
Dwight B. gave it a 10:
Mike White's performance as man-child in La La Land is incisive and brilliant. Watch the scene where he and the child actor unconsiously begin chewing gum in sync--- stunning revelation. The intensity of this performance should make every heterosexual man squirm with discomfort, and reveals how society tries to block emotional maturation among gays by excluding them from the "life-markers" that mark such progress. Prom, Dating, Marriage, etc. Think about it.
Jason D gave it an 8:
Halfway through, I was convinced that I was going to wind up disliking this movie because of where it was obviously going. But it went someplace else entirely, and did so well.
