Entertainment Weekly Owen Gleiberman
Trash, but always just a little creepier than you expect.

The effects never really get ahead of the characters or the script's layered personality.

The kind of horror movie that's not a bit scary and quite a bit gross.

Aims low and cheats on an ending, but meanwhile it's a bottom-shelf hoot.
TV Guide Maitland McDonagh
For horror fans in a forgiving mood, it's an adequate fear fix.

Contains too little of the original's campy spirit and too many whistles, bells, explosions and screams.

Fun for less than 30 of the 80-minute running time.
New York Post Lou Lumenick
Slow-moving, yawn-inducing remake.
Newsweek Jane Hogan
Everyone in the film is either annoying or unpleasant.
Los Angeles Times Eric Harrison
Soon enough, it becomes clear how much this movie disrespects both the audience and the genre.

All the special effects in the world cannot compensate for an inability to generate tension, establish and sustain pace or create any character whose survival is worth rooting for.

Lucky for you, it won't cost a thing to get up and walk out at any point after the credits.

If your name's on the marquee, chances are your agent's already dead.

I would rather feed Jesse Helms a rancid peanut butter sandwich, and then have him slowly lick my face off, than sit through House on Haunted Hill again.

Cody S. gave it a 9:
I loved it because i like scary movies. but it could of been a little scarier.
Josh C. gave it a 9:
The movie rocked! it kept me on my toes the whole time.
Scott M. gave it a 4:
This movie just proves the fact that people aren't making good horror productions like they used to. All they do now is find bad actors, disturbing images, non-stop gore, and a bad ending to make a film. I do think some of it was good like the part when she looks through the camera and finds all those surgeons looking at her. But overall trashy.
Scott M. gave it a 2:
I'm not easy to scare. And this movie didn't scare me but what it did do is make me think of how desperate moviemakers are to get you to be scared. Too much gore and disturbing images but what do you expect from the director of Fear dot com.
Kris R. gave it a 7:
This is an ok movie that really didn't scare me the first time I saw it, but the blood and gore is enough to make you cringe and think "I'm glad that isn't happening to me!" There is only about one thing that bugs me about the film, and that is whenver someone starts clapping slowly and saying "Bravo," which is WAY too overused in the film. I guess the writers ran out of ideas. This is an overall ok movie, with a few surprises, and LOTS of blood and gore, so if you are squeamish, I don't suggest it!!
Jennifer U. gave it a 9:
This movie is the best. It keeps you on your damn toes if you're seening it for the first time. I saw it a while back. When i saw the movie it scared me, made me jump out of my seat. I love horror a lot, when that movie made me jump that is good. The part when is looking for her friend Danny and in the room the pink ghost rattling the cage... that scared me. I just love that movie but it don't top "The Exorcist" black and white version...sorry.
