100

Portland Oregonian Kim Morgan

She (Cho) can tell a joke, mimic, offer commentary, play cute, play ugly and be so hilariously absurd that tears will run down your cheeks.

100

Slate David Edelstein

This is an amazing movie.

Several times while watching the movie I laughed until the tears were running down my face.

Chicago Reader Jonathan Rosenbaum

It's hard to think of many more galvanizing definitions of what it means to be an American than Cho's volcanic self-assessments.

Boston Globe Jay Carr

We're in a golden age of comedy, and one of the reasons is Margaret Cho.

90

Los Angeles Times Kevin Thomas

Identifying herself with other minorities (whose members she mimics outrageously), Cho shatters racial and sexual stereotypes with merciless wit.

LA Weekly Libby Molyneaux

An uplifting -- not to mention pee-your-pants funny -- true story of self-acceptance that should be required viewing for all TV executives and teenage girls.

Mr. Showbiz Kevin Maynard

Cho is raw, uncensored, and side-splittingly hilarious.

Seattle Post-Intelligencer Sean Axmaker

The funniest thing I've seen this summer.

San Francisco Chronicle Edward Guthmann

A wickedly, punishingly funny movie.

Baltimore Sun Chris Kaltenbach

But there's a discomfiting side to her comic riffs, because in our all-too-concerned-with-image society, they ring far too true.

San Francisco Examiner Wesley Morris

Priceless.

Philadelphia Inquirer Desmond Ryan

(Director Lionel Coleman) wisely opts for a straightforward approach with long takes that capture Cho's kinetic rhythm and rely on her talent and honed timing to carry the evening.

67

Austin Chronicle Byan Poyser

The real joy of watching this movie is seeing a stand-up comedian who is incredibly comfortable with herself, her material, and her audience.

Miami Herald Charles Savage

It's hard to connect with long minutes of self-pity by a temporarily has-been celebrity.

60

TV Guide Maitland McDonagh

On the downside, it's slackly edited -- comedy is, after all, all about timing and there are way too many lengthy shots of Cho waiting for her audience to respond.

Dallas Observer Jean Oppenheimer

Devotees of the comedienne presumably will think they have died and gone to heaven, while Cho virgins may laugh aloud a half-dozen times but probably won't become converts.

Village Voice Dennis Lim

The time-outs from wisecracking -- invariably, to impart a simplistic self-esteem lesson or two -- feature the most awkward silences you're likely to endure in a comedy routine.

If only the film had been a more visually satisfying experience.

Chuck F. gave it a10:
I've seen this movie half a dozen times. It makes me laugh and cry each time. No standup concert film comes close since Richard Pryor's "Live on the Sunset Strip". Not Seinfeld, not Murphy, not Rock. Margaret, like Pryor, trancends the genre, making it far more a theatrical experience.

Yoon Min C. gave it a 0:
Ugly, disgusting, and obnoxious Marge Cho wants herself. I advise to clone herself, buy some sex toys, and have herself and her clone do eachother for all eternity and leave the rest of us the hell alone. This is movie as 3-D vomit and smellorama. This swine woman really stinks.
