TV Guide Maitland McDonagh
It's a sorry state of affairs when a goldfish and a frog (Ginger's prize specimen, unsubtly named Casanova) have more chemistry than a romantic comedy's human leads.

Pic contains its share of viable gags and stars generate a certain degree of convincing chemistry. But eventually, the seams in personality design and artificially stitched-together script construction begin to show.

Kettle of Fish, starring Matthew Modine as a commitment-skittish saxophone player, is a warm-spirited romantic comedy, but it tends to have a squawky pitch.

You gotta give credit to any first-time direc tor who attempts an homage to classic screwball comedies on a shoestring budget, even if Kettle of Fish ends up not exactly being the catch of the week.

Writer-director Claudia Myers' clunky debut feature makes the case that first-timers should probably focus on either writing or directing.

The result is movie goulash: made with love, impossible to digest.

Bari C. gave it a3:
This writer/director needed more checks and balances. It's not often that I spend a movie pointing out film-making flaws, but the mismatched music and sequence errors were more interesting than the plot...or the acting.
Alan R. gave it a1:
Very bad movie. I can't believe the actors actually read the script before signing on to do the film.
Arnie S. gave it a0:
This movie is so bad, you wouldn't believe it!
Derek V. gave it a2:
A Terribly unfunny movie. The writer/Director seems to have a thing for *bad* accents and every gimmick seems far-fetching and quite annoying.
