A summer delight that also provides a quick cultural education.

It's sort of like getting off the plane in a strange place without a guide. We can figure it out, but it takes some work, and the music is more of a distraction than an aid.

Completely successful or not, films like Saudade do Futuro are needed. And we need people like the Nordestinos.
Read Full Review >TV Guide Ken Fox
The film doesn't provide any narration or go out of its way to identify the participants, so it's left to the viewer to make connections and draw their own conclusions.

Despite its sociological tidbits and flashes of musical vitality, Saudade do Futuro never goes anywhere.

batu can gave it a9:
The main focus in the movie is on people. It has an unassuming frank camera on people, their saudade for their roots, music, passions, dance, work, sweat, joy and daily life. After watching this movie it is almost impossible not to love/admire the nordestionos in SP with their 100% humane existence. Film makes good use of silence as well as the music; all frames are full of real people shot almost by two eyes without intimidating people rather than with a camera and a crew. The selection of songs are excellent, it is the best thing to feel between these people in a forro dancing bar without actually being there.
