Charlotte Observer Lawrence Toppman

Could pass for any serial killer movie except for some pertinent philosophizing about the nature of evil and the operations of the soul.

Chicago Reader J.R. Jones

The vile sadism of the Saw movies has been replaced by decorative references to Saint Augustine and Immanuel Kant, and there's a beautiful but brainy police profiler (Waddell) on hand to dispense a thick layer of psychobabble.

New York Daily News Jack Mathews

A pretty run-of-the-mill B suspense movie.

Baltimore Sun Chris Kaltenbach

Most of the fun to be had with Thr3e is to spot the movies from which it cribs. Beyond that, what one has is a conventional psychological thriller that cheats too often and depends on actors determined to play only one note.

The Hollywood Reporter Frank Scheck

The fairly routine plot is made somewhat more interesting by the infusion of issues regarding morality and faith, but ultimately Three, for all its philosophizing, is little more than a standard serial-killer movie with pretensions.

TV Guide Maitland McDonagh

Ultimately aimed at a Christian audience looking for genre entertainment with a certain sense of propriety (which partly translates into there being no murders), the film tries to serve two masters and doesn't quite deliver for either.

Variety Joe Leydon

Indeed, you could argue that weighty questions about the nature of evil and the allure of sin figured more prominently in the similarly titled "Se7en," one of several other, better suspensers dimly echoed here.

Unfortunately, the filmmakers failed to replace sex, splatter and cursing with sharp dialogue, characters and plotting.

Marc Blucas as the hunted seminary student Kevin Parson might as well be dead for all his charisma.

This is one of the most confusing, horribly written movies I've ever seen, and I'm the king of watching bad movies ... and liking them.

What Our Users Said

The average user rating for this movie is 6.8 (out of 10) based on 8 User Votes

Chris B. gave it a5:
His aunt and family annoyed the heck out of me. The "Riddle Killer" was obviously very similar to the Jigsaw from the "Saw" movies. Main actor was fairly good, supporting cast was so/so. It's not a horrible movie, but it's not something I would really recommend.

Rebecca gave it a9:
It did a pretty good job relating to the book, but it could have done better with the effects, although considering the budget, it wasn' that bad. Unfortunetly, most people seem to be distracted by too many things to get the point of the movie...it wasn't to be a blatantly "Christian" movie, but maybe people will read the book and recognize the genius of Ted Dekker.
