LA Weekly Holly Willis
A rare treat -- a mix of politics that avoids reductive simplicity and a story that's entirely engaging.

Director Roger Michell ("Persuasion," "Notting Hill") has made his finest film to date.

Michell captures the awkwardness of real-world behavior with gentle, unforced humor.

In its heart burns the indomitable flame of the human spirit.

In its harshly realistic scenes... it stirs your blood.

Violence ignites her passion, dividing her Belfast family.
Read Full Review >New York Daily News Elizabeth Weitzman
She (Walters) may be working with old news, but she shores up this shaky film with a heart the size of an ocean liner.

As solid as the earth, rich as a good meal and sometimes funny as hell.

Well worth seeing for Walters, whose comic and dramatic gifts are showcased to very entertaining effect.
Read Full Review >Christian Science Monitor David Sterritt
Michell treats the Irish troubles of the 1970s with clear-eyed compassion, and Walters's performance ranks with her best.

The wavering style and tone fragment the movie, undermining both characters' development, though each retains her power as a symbol.

An admirable, thoughtful venture, but it may leave you with the feeling that you've seen it all before.
Village Voice Amy Taubin
Isn't convincing on every front, but as a political conversation piece, it's potentially effective.
Read Full Review >Salon.com Charles Taylor
In some ways it's not a very good movie... tries to mix comedy and tragedy...but the movie has an exciting subject -- a true story.
Read Full Review >Austin Chronicle Russell Smith
With its understated moral power, generous spirit, and bracing flashes of dark humor, Titanic Town offers a fresh, subtly illuminating take on an ancient sorrow.

It's hard to know just how much to trust Titanic Town.

Mathias gave it a 2:
An overlong, boring film. Just watch some hour long documentary on Discovery (not the James Cameron one) and you get a better story, better characters and your ass won't be asleep by the time the credits start. All hype no substance.
