New York Post Jonathan Foreman

Initially amusing but finally sour sex comedy.

50

Chicago Tribune John Petrakis

A decent idea that never goes deep enough for genuine satisfaction.

40

Rolling Stone Peter Travers

Peet does it with a twinkle, finding class among the crass.

38

Philadelphia Inquirer Steven Rea

Lewd, crude, blessedly brief.

38

USA Today Andy Seiler

A cynical sex comedy that manages to be infantile and jaded at the same time.

30

TV Guide Ken Fox

A misconceived roundelay that crosses the thin line dividing gross-but-funny from just plain gross.

San Francisco Chronicle Mick LaSalle

Ugly. ..and unpleasant -- and clueless on a grand scale.

25

Boston Globe Jay Carr

A crass, witless knockoff of better films.

20

Chicago Reader Lisa Alspector

This gross sex farce actually has a point, though about half the population won't like what it is.

Portland Oregonian David Germain

A caustic, raunchy, often hilarious examination of how men use women.

11

Austin Chronicle Kimberley Jones

I was consistently aghast at how unabashedly alpha-male, heartless, and chauvinistic this film is.

Variety Joe Leydon

Grotesquely smutty and obnoxiously overbearing, this is a pitiful excuse for a comedy.

Los Angeles Times Kevin Thomas

Way too bleak to be funny, even as a contemporary satire of the battle of the sexes.

This movie has straight-to-video written all over it.

Mr. Showbiz Larry Terenzi

Whipped is cinematic suicide, if not for actor, then certainly for audience.

San Francisco Examiner Wesley Morris

Breaks new ground both as an abominable enterprise in guy-talk and as no-budget hackwork.

0

LA Weekly Chuck Wilson

As repellent as their characters are, one feels a degree of pity for the three male leads, who give fresh evidence that hungry actors can't say no to a studio feature, no matter how humiliating the script.

Entertainment Weekly Owen Gleiberman

The trouble with Whipped isn't that its characters are dirty mouthed horndog jerks -- it's that they're phony dirty mouthed horndog jerks.

TNT RoughCut J. Rentilly

Its film school aesthetics and sophomoric storytelling are sense-deadening.

0

Seattle Post-Intelligencer William Arnold

Perhaps there is a more excruciatingly painful and self-abusive way to spend 82 minutes. But I honestly can't think of what it would be.

B P. gave it a1:
If you are thinking of watching Whipped, do yourself a favor and just smash your hand in a car door instead.

Manny J. gave it a2:
While I am a fan of Amanda Peet and her work in other comedies, this movie has poor comedic value. There are very few comical moments and they are all saved until the closing credits.

Andrew M. gave it a 7:
WOW, guess the critics really didn't like this much, eh! Well, I did. Why? Well, its message wasn't a morality award-winner, the script never made it out of the gutter, the direction was mostly tedious, and the story was predictable to the nth degree. So, again, why did I like it? Simple: 'cause it was just so much fun! Films don't always have to be good to be good; if you're debased like myself, you'll like this one.

Jared G. gave it an 8:
This movie was very funny. i'm not ashamed to say i own the dvd.

Jim gave it a 9:
This was such a funny movie. I can't believe the critics were so quick to dismiss it. Some parts were a bit over the top but I found myself laughing out loud on more than one occasion.

Ben J. gave it a 5:
Good movie... But kinda depressing and sad.... Made me think about how my x is a stupid slut and how she screwed me over!!
