▣ Megan Leavey Trailers
Kate Mara stars in this based-on-a-true-story drama about a Marine corporal and her military combat dog. Edie Falco, Common, and Tom Felton co-star in a film that critics describe as having a split personality, with its inspirational animal drama (basically, the second half of the film) far outshining its war movie half.
▣ Raw Trailers
This artsy, French-language horror tale from first-time director Julia Ducournau follows a vegetarian first-year veterinary college student who doesn't respond well to hazing from older classmates. (Let's just say that when she finally starts eating meat, she goes all out.) Critics compared the film to the work of David Cronenberg and Dario Argento.
▣ Rough Night Trailers
This R-rated comedic thriller follows five best friends from college (Scarlett Johansson, Kate McKinnon, Jillian Bell, Ilana Glazer, and Zoë Kravitz) as they reunite for a wild bachelorette weekend in Miami. Their fun night takes a dark turn when they accidentally kill a male stripper. Directed by Lucia Aniello from a script she wrote with her Broad City collaborator Paul W. Downs, this blend of The Hangover with Very Bad Things and Weekend at Bernie’s is a bit of mess, according to critics, though some reviewers found at least some moments to laugh at.

▣ Beatriz at Dinner Trailers
The latest collaboration between director Miguel Arteta and writer Mike White (Chuck & Buck and The Good Girl, plus HBO series Enlightened) chronicles an evening at the Orange County mansion of Cathy (Connie Britton) and Grant (David Warshofsky), where Beatriz (Salma Hayek), a holistic healer, clashes with the Trump-like Douglas Strutt (John Lithgow). Also attending the dinner are Strutt’s third wife (Amy Landecker) and a younger couple played by Jay Duplass and Chloe Sevigny. The comedy earned decent reviews when it premiered at Sundance earlier this year.
▣ It Comes at Night Trailers
Writer-director Trey Edward Shults follows his acclaimed debut Krisha with a very different (though also well reviewed) film. It Comes at Night is a psychological horror film starring Joel Edgerton as a man whose life with his wife (Carmen Ejogo) and son (Kelvin Harrison Jr.) is interrupted by the arrival of a desperate young family (Christopher Abbott and Riley Keough) and their young son (Griffin Robert Faulkner). Unable to keep the horrors of the outside world from invading their home, both families let paranoia take over.
▣ The Mummy Trailers
Screenwriter turned director Alex Kurtzman helms this latest reboot of The Mummy, which is intended to kick off Universal’s new Dark Universe monster movie franchise. It's certainly an inauspicious start, with critics panning the film as drab, derivative, and ridiculous. Tom Cruise, Sofia Boutella, Annabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson, Courtney B. Vance, and Russell Crowe star.

▣ The Bad Batch Trailers
As in her acclaimed debut feature (A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night), writer-director Ana Lily Amirpour creates a unique world for her main character—in this case, a girl played by Suki Waterhouse who is cast out into a desert wasteland populated by bodybuilding cannibals (one played by Jason Momoa), a cult leader known as The Dream (Keanu Reeves), and a mute scavenger played by Jim Carrey. Reviewers were less enthusiastic about this bold new vision from the director, but she did receive a Special Jury Prize when the film premiered at the Venice Film Festival last fall.
▣ The Big Sick Trailers
Based on the real-life romance between writers Kumail Nanjiani and Emily V. Gordon and starring Nanjiani and Zoe Kazan, this comedy directed by Michael Showalter (Hello, My Name Is Doris) follows the newly dating couple as they struggle with cultural differences and a major illness. Scooped up by Amazon Studios for $12 million at Sundance (where it received great reviews) and starring Ray Romano and Holly Hunter as Kazan’s parents, this is the year's best rom-com.
▣ Certain Women Trailers
Writer-director Kelly Reichardt’s (Night Moves, Old Joy) adaptation of three short stories by Maile Meloy focuses on the lives of three women. Laura Dern plays a lawyer dealing with a hostile work environment and a hostage situation. Michelle Williams is a wife and mother trying to build her dream home while battling her husband (James Le Gros). And Kristen Stewart is a law student who forms a tentative relationship with a ranch hand played by newcomer Lily Gladstone.
▣ The Hero Trailers
Sam Elliott stars as an aging Western actor forced to confront his mortality in the latest effort from the team (writer Marc Basch and writer-director Brett Haley) behind I’ll See You in My Dreams. Nick Offerman plays Elliott’s pot-dealing friend, Katharine Ross his ex-wife, and Krysten Ritter his estranged daughter, while Laura Prepon is a romantic interest. Though critics praised The Hero as a showcase for Elliot’s acting talents, they don't necessarily like the film as a whole.
▣ The Little Hours Trailers
A great cast (Alison Brie, Dave Franco, Kate Micucci, Aubrey Plaza, John C. Reilly, Molly Shannon, Nick Offerman, Fred Armisen, Jemima Kirke, Adam Pally, and Paul Reiser) improvises its way through writer-director Jeff Baena’s third film, following Joshy and Life After Beth. The story centers on three nuns (played by Brie, Plaza and Micucci) who try to sleep with a newly arrived servant (Franco) staying at their convent. Inspired by Giovanni Boccaccio's The Decameron, the resulting contemporary comedic hijinks were praised upon the the film’s premiere at Sundance in January.
▣ Wonder Woman Trailers
Gal Gadot’s Diana Prince may be able to save the world, but can she save the DC Extended Universe? She's definitely the franchise's major highlight so far, returning with this summer critical and commercial hit after first making an appearance as the best part of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Woman follows Diana as as she’s introduced to the world outside of Themyscria, home of the Amazons, by Chris Pine’s Steve Trevor. She fights in World War I and faces off against Elena Anaya’s Dr. Poison, Danny Huston’s General Erich Ludendorff, and a big bad in the form of Ares.

▣ David Lynch: The Art Life Trailers
Documentarian Jon Nguyen has already profiled legendary director David Lynch once before, for 2007's Lynch, which examined the making of Inland Empire. His latest Lynch doc focuses more on the man himself—especially his formative years and the beginning of his career—piecing together a narration from four years of audio interviews with Lynch.
▣ Pop Aye Trailers
Kristen Tan’s debut feature follows Thana, a once-famous Bangkok architect who leaves the city and his unfulfilling life behind to take a road trip back to his home village with an elephant he names Popeye. This unconventional road trip leads to some surprising twists, allowing time for poignant comedy and social commentary.
▣ Transformers: The Last Knight Trailers
The fifth Transformers film returns the previous installment's star (Mark Wahlberg) and director (Michael Bay)—which obviously shouldn't be taken as a good sign. Indeed, it's even worse than anticipated: it somehow has the lowest Metascore not only in the Transformers franchise, but also in Bay's entire career. True fact: Anthony Hopkins is in it. He won an Oscar once.
