Conviction 60 Add to Netflix Queue

A woman devotes 18 years of her life to an attempt to overturn her brother's murder conviction in this inspirational based-on-a-true-story drama from director Tony Goldwyn. Critics didn't dislike it, but many found the film merely average. Hilary Swank, Sam Rockwell, and Melissa Leo star.

Let Me In 79 Add to Netflix Queue

Matt Reeves’ remake of the acclaimed 2008 Swedish horror film Let the Right One In 82 is one of 2010's few good horror films -- and one of the decade's few good horror remakes -- thanks to a compelling story and strong performances by young leads Chloe Moretz and Kodi Smit-McPhee. You'll want to see the original too.

Never Let Me Go 69 Add to Netflix Queue

On paper, this science fiction-tinged drama about students at an unusual English boarding school had all the ingredients to be a major critical success: an intriguing director (Mark Romanek), a strong cast (Carey Mulligan, Keira Knightley, Andrew Garfield), and terrific source material (Kazuo Ishiguro's acclaimed novel). While the film did receive many positive reviews, it also turned out to be less than the sum of its parts, and was mostly ignored come awards season.

The Tillman Story 86 to Netflix Queue

One of 2010's top documentaries, Amir Bar-Lev's feature investigates the friendly-fire death in Afghanistan of NFL player-turned-Army Ranger Pat Tillman.

Check It Out! with Steve Brule: Season 1 n/a Add to Netflix Queue

This more focused spin-off from Tim & Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! features a terrific John C. Reilly as dim-witted but well-meaning local television personality Steve Brule, who hosts his own low-budget, early-morning show in which he explores topics ranging from food to friendship.

It's Kind of a Funny Story 63 Add to Netflix Queue

A stressed-out teenager (Keir Gilchrist) checks himself into a local mental asylum, where he makes an unlikely friend (Zach Galifianakis) and falls for the other teenager in his ward (Emma Roberts). The generally well-reviewed film operates somewhere between comedy and drama, but irks some critics for getting too cutesy at times.

My Soul to Take 25 Add to Netflix Queue

The first film that horror master Wes Craven both wrote and directed in 16 years, this formulaic thriller also happens to be one of his all-time worst movies.

Paranormal Activity 2 51 Add to Netflix Queue

Another family is plagued by a mysterious presence in their home in this surprisingly not terrible (but unsurprisingly less original) quickie sequel to the 2009 low-budget horror hit. By the way, it's now officially a franchise; the third Paranormal Activity will arrive in theaters this fall.

You Again 29 Add to Netflix Queue

Even the many people who enjoyed Kristen Bell's work on Veronica Mars have learned that seeing her name in big letters on a movie poster is a warning to stay away. Only the second-worst of her three 2010 films, this comedy finds Bell playing a woman who finds herself battling her one-time high school nemesis once more as an adult. Not even a Betty White appearance can save the film.

Unstoppable 69 Add to Netflix Queue

This solid action flick about a runaway freight train was a surprise hit last fall, scoring with both critics and moviegoers. Denzel Washington, Chris Pine, and Rosario Dawson star for director Tony Scott.

Waiting for 'Superman' 81 Add to Netflix Queue

Documentarian Davis Guggenheim, who explored global climate change in An Inconvenient Truth, tackles an even more daunting challenge in this award-winning 2010 film: reforming the dysfunctional American public education system.

You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger 51 Add to Netflix Queue

Woody Allen returns to London for his most recent ensemble romantic comedy, which stars Antonio Banderas, Josh Brolin, Anthony Hopkins, and Naomi Watts. Critics did not feel it was one of the director's major works.

Due Date 51 Add to Netflix Queue

Director Todd Phillips' follow-up to The Hangover was this less successful road trip comedy starring Robert Downey Jr. and Zach Galifianakis. While it has its amusing moments, you may prefer to rent Planes, Trains, and Automobiles -- to which this movie was unfavorably compared -- instead.

Get Low 77 Add to Netflix Queue

A surly Tennessee hermit decides to throw himself a funeral party -- while he is still alive -- in this slow-building dramedy that features strong performances from Robert Duvall, Bill Murray, and Sissy Spacek.

[Feb. 25] Megamind 63 Add to Netflix Queue

This PG-rated animated comedy from DreamWorks centers on duelling supervillains, though in the battle of 2010 animated supervillain movies, Despicable Me wins by a nose. The vocal cast includes Brad Pitt, Will Ferrell, Tina Fey, and Jonah Hill.

Paranormal Activity 1 and 2 SUCKS!

  • Mitch Tough

Paranormal 2 wasn't as good as the original - but there's a scene in that sucker that will f*** you up good. Think you can see every "scare" coming? You won't see this one coming, and it will jar you like no other. I was almost pissed at the filmmakers after seeing it. The other two people in the theater with me had the same reaction.
