Adapted from Jeff VanderMeer’s novel, the February 23, 2018 release follows an expedition team (Natalie Portman, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Gina Rodriguez, Tessa Thompson) as they enter Area X, a mysterious place that Portman’s husband (Oscar Isaac) already explored.

A second look at Cannes hit The Killing of a Sacred Deer
When The Killing of a Sacred Deer premiered at Cannes, writer-director Yorgos Lanthimos and co-writer Efthymis Filippou shared the Best Screenplay award with You Were Never Really Here writer-director Lynne Ramsey. Focusing on a surgeon (Colin Farrell) who must make an unthinkable choice concerning his family, the October 20 release is another unnerving offering from the director of The Lobster and Dogtooth.
More Stephen King on screen: 1922
1922, the latest Stephen King adaptation of 2017, stars Thomas Jane as a farmer who murders his wife (Molly Parker) and is haunted by his guilt. The October 20 Netflix release, writer-director Zak Hilditch’s follow-up to These Final Hours, has earned very good early reviews.
Maze Runner: The Death Cure
Maze Runner: The Death Cure, the final installment in the Maze Runner trilogy, finds Thomas (Dylan O’Brien) leading the escaped Gladers into the WCKD-controlled Last City. Directed by Wes Ball (The Maze Runner, Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials), the January 26, 2018 release adds Walton Goggins to the franchise and returns Kaya Scodelario, Giancarlo Esposito, Patricia Clarkson, Nathalie Emmanuel, Katherine McNamara, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Rosa Salazar, Ki Hong Lee, and Barry Pepper.
Father Figures
When brothers Kyle and Peter Reynolds (Owen Wilson and Ed Helms) discover that their mom (Glenn Close) has lied to them about their father dying when they were young, they set out to find their real father. With supporting performances by J.K. Simmons, Katt Williams, Terry Bradshaw, Ving Rhames, Harry Shearer and Christopher Walken, Father Figures heads to theaters on December 22.
Geostorm
Geostorm imagines a world in which the weather is controlled by an intricate system of satellites. Gerard Butler plays a scientist who, with the help of his brother (Jim Sturgess), must fix the satellites when there’s a major malfunction that threatens Earth. Directed by producer Dean Devlin, this October 20 release also stars Abbie Cornish as a secret service agent, Andy Garcia as the president, and Ed Harris as the secretary of state. Coming after the natural disasters in Texas, Florida, and the Caribbean, this disaster movie won’t exactly be the escapist entertainment it was intended to be.
Darkest Hour
Gary Oldman stars as Winston Churchill in this biopic that focuses on Churchill’s first term as prime minister, covering his refusal to negotiate peace with the Nazis and the subsequent inspiration he provided Britain. Directed by Joe Wright (Anna Karenina, Pan) and featuring Lily James, Ben Mendelsohn, Stephen Dillane, and Kristin Scott Thomas in supporting roles, Darkest Hour earned good reviews when it played at the fall film festivals. Look for it in theaters beginning November 22nd.
Pitch Perfect 3
The Bellas reunite for a USO tour in this continuation of the franchise that began in 2012 with Pitch Perfect and continued in 2015 with Pitch Perfect 2. Simply titled Pitch Perfect 3, this December 22 release brings back Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Hailee Steinfeld, Brittany Snow, Anna Camp, Hana Mae Lee, Ester Dean, Alexis Knapp, Chrissie Fit, Kelley Jakle, Shelley Regner, Elizabeth Banks, and John Michael Higgins from the previous films and adds Ruby Rose and John Lithgow.
Gotti
John Travolta stars as the “Teflon Don,” John Gotti, in this dramatization of his three-decade rise through the ranks of the Gambino crime family. Directed by Entourage actor Kevin Connolly, Gotti stars Spencer Rocco Lofranco as Gotti’s son, John Jr., and Kelly Preston as Gotti’s wife. Find it on VOD and in select theaters beginning December 15th.

The documentary Jane is an intimate portrait of Jane Goodall using newly discovered footage from the 1960s. Find it in select theaters October 20th.
Coming to VOD and select theaters on October 27th, The Truth About Lies captures the professional and personal meltdown of Gilby Smalls (Fran Kranz).
Acts of Vengeance stars Antonio Banderas as lawyer who transforms himself into a killer to avenge the death of his wife and daughter. Look for it in select theaters beginning October 27th.
