A longer look at Christopher Nolan's DunkirkThe first full trailer for Christopher Nolan’s World War II epic Dunkirk shows the scale of the film. Shot on 65mm and IMAX, the July 21, 2017 release dramatizes Operation Dynamo, the evacuation of Allied troops from the French harbor of Dunkirk from May 26 to June 4. The large ensemble includes veterans Tom Hardy, Mark Rylance, Kenneth Branagh, and Cillian Murphy and newcomers Fionn Whitehead, Aneurin Barnard, Harry Styles, James D’Arcy, Jack Lowden, and Barry Keoghan.

Fast 8 is now The Fate of the Furious
Following Furious 7, the biggest hit in the franchise so far, The Fate of the Furious catches up with Dom (Vin Diesel) as he’s seduced to the dark side by a mysterious woman played by Charlize Theron. Shot around the globe, this April 14, 2017 release is directed by F. Gary Gray (Straight Outta Compton) and returns stars Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Lucas Black, Jordana Brewster, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Kurt Russell, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, and Lucas Black.
Snatched
Jonathan Levine (The Night Before) directs Goldie Hawn and Amy Schumer as mother and daughter in Snatched. Written by Katie Dippold (The Heat, Ghostbusters), the story follows Schumer and Hawn as they travel to South America and get kidnapped. The supporting cast for this May 12, 2017 release includes Ike Barinholtz, Joan Cusack, Randall Park, Wanda Sykes, and Christopher Meloni.
Zach Braff remakes Going in Style
Zach Braff (Wish I Was Here, Garden State) directs Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine and Alan Arkin in this remake of the 1979 heist comedy starring George Burns, Art Carney, and Lee Strasberg. Having lost their pension, the three friends decide to rob the bank that absconded with their money. Going in Style opens on April 7, 2017.
Three upcoming animated films
Sing opens on Wednesday, and with it comes three trailers for future animation releases.
Boss Baby, directed by Tom McGrath (Madagascar 1, 2 and 3), tells the story of 7-year-old Tim and his new baby brother (voiced by Alec Baldwin). This March 31, 2017 release features the voices of Miles Bahski, Jimmy Kimmel, Lisa Kudrow, and Steve Buscemi.
Coming to theaters June 30, 2017 is Despicable Me 3. This time, Gru (Steve Carell), Lucy (Kristen Wiig), their daughters—Margo, Edith and Agnes—and the Minions face off against '80s obsessed baddie Balthazar Bratt (Trey Parker).
Gkids will bring the 1993 Studio Ghibli animated feature Ocean Waves to American theaters for the first time beginning December 28th. The story follows best friends Taku and Yutaka whose relationship is tested when they both fall for Rikako, a beautiful transfer student from Tokyo.
The Sense of an Ending
Directed by Ritesh Batra (The Lunchbox), The Sense of an Ending is an adaptation of Julian Barnes’ novel about a man haunted by his past, and his first love in particular. When that man and his first love are played by Jim Broadbent and Charlotte Rampling, there’s reason to get excited for this March 10, 2017 release. The rest of the strong cast includes Michelle Dockery, Harriet Walter, Emily Mortimer, Joe Alwyn, and Matthew Goode.
Norman: The Moderate Rise and Tragic Fall of a New York Fixer
Footnote director Joseph Cedar's latest examination of Jewish life stars Richard Gere as the titular character, a hustler, whose gesture to an Israeli politician makes this rarely successful fixer an influential figure in the New York-Israeli community. As the title reveals, it’s not all roses for Gere’s Norman, but the actor has earned plenty of praise in early reviews. With a supporting cast that includes Lior Ashkenazi, Michael Sheen, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Steve Buscemi, Dan Stevens, Josh Charles, and Hank Azaria, Norman: The Moderate Rise and Tragic Fall of a New York Fixer opens in select theaters this spring.
Say hello to The Bye Bye Man
Finally coming to theaters on January 13th, 2017 after being originally slotted for June 3rd of this year, The Bye Bye Man follows three Wisconsin college students who unleash the titular baddie when they move into the worst off-campus housing ever. Stacy Title (Hood of Horror) directs a cast that includes Douglas Smith, Cressida Bonas, Lucien Laviscount, Doug Jones, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Faye Dunaway.
Arsenal
After consecutive Bruce Willis vehicles (Extraction and Marauders), director Steven C. Miller enlists Nicolas Cage at his wig-wearing, scene-stealing best/worst for Arsenal. Coming to theaters January 6, 2017, the crime thriller follows brothers (Johnathon Schaech and Adrian Grenier) who enlist an old friend (John Cusack) to help them get even with Cage’s ruthless crime boss.
Will Unforgettable be another forgettable Katherine Heigl movie?
In the April 21, 2017 release Unforgettable, Katherine Heigl plays a divorcée who can’t let go of her former life, especially when her husband (Geoff Stults) moves on with Rosario Dawson. Cyberbullying, stalking, knife fights, and murder ensue in this film directed by veteran producer Denise Di Novi from a script by Christina Hodson.
Brendan Gleeson and Emma Thompson are Alone in Berlin
Alone in Berlin tells the true story of Otto and Anna Quangel (Brendan Gleeson and Emma Thompson), a German working class husband and wife whose son is killed on the frontline, prompting them to disseminate anti-Nazi propaganda. Based on the novel Every Man Dies Alone by Hans Fallada, directed by actor Vincent Perez and co-starring Daniel Brühl, the film opens in select theaters on January 13, 2017.
The Bronx Bull
If Raging Bull didn’t satisfy your thirst for Jake LaMotta’s story, maybe The Bronx Bull, starring William Forsythe as the boxer, is the movie for you. (Then again, by the looks of this first trailer, it's probably not). Written and directed by Martin Guigui with a cast that includes Joe Mantegna, Tom Sizemore, Paul Sorvino, Penelope Ann Miller, Mojean Aria, Ray Wise, Natasha Henstridge, and James Russo, the film comes to select theaters and VOD on January 6, 2017.
Short takes
The February 10, 2017 release Kedi follows seven of the thousands of cats that roam the Turkish city of Istanbul.
Frank Grillo, Dianna Agron, Minnie Driver, John Leguizamo, Maggie Q, AnnaSophia Robb, Mary McCormack, Ed Westwick, and Christopher McDonald star in Aram Rappaport’s The Crash. Look for it in theaters and on VOD January 13, 2017.
Zhao Liang’s Behemoth looks at China’s economic boom from the point of view of the workers. See it in select theaters January 27, 2017.
