Already one of the best-reviewed films of 2021, the directorial debut from Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson wowed (virtual) attendees at Sundance early this year, when the film swept the top documentary awards from the festival jury and audience members. It's a concert movie, featuring previously unseen footage from the Harlem Cultural Festival of 1969—footage that has been sitting in a basement for decades until now. And what a series of concerts it was: performers include Stevie Wonder, Nina Simone, B.B. King, Sly and the Family Stone, and more. The film streams on Hulu beginning today, the same day it opens in theaters.

Available to Disney+ subscribers for an additional rental fee on the same day as its theatrical release, the latest entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe ends a nearly unprecedented two-year gap between Marvel movies. (The only other hiatus of a similar length ran from 2008 to 2010.) The focus here, obviously, is on Scarlett Johansson's Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow—though she's not the only Black Widow in the film, which finds Florence Pugh joining the MCU as Yelena Belova and Rachel Weisz possibly playing a third Black Widow (and also Iron Maiden/Melina Vostokoff). David Harbour (Stranger Things), O-T Fagbenle (The Handmaid's Tale), and William Hurt also star for first-time Marvel director Cate Shortland (best known for her Australian indie drama Somersault).

Wellington Paranormal NEW Comedy CW 9p
Making its American debut three years after it first aired in New Zealand, this mockumentary-style TV series spinoff from the original What We Do in the Shadows film should appeal to fans of the hit FX TV show also based on that movie. Two of the movie's stars, Karen O'Leary and Michael Minogue, reprise their roles in Wellington as clueless cops who are members of their city's paranormal policing unit, and the series was created by Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi, who were also responsible for both the film and its American TV spinoff. Two new episodes air back-to-back tonight, and all episodes will be available to stream on HBO Max the day after they air on The CW.

Dr. Death MINISERIES Trailer Drama Peacock
One of the first shows ordered by Peacock when the streaming service was announced in 2019 (but delayed, like everything else, by the pandemic), this eight-episode limited series is a fictionalized adaptation of the first season of the true-crime podcast of the same name, focusing on the investigation into a Texas neurosurgeon who was accused of gross malpractice after over 30 of his patients were left seriously injured or dead. The delay in production led to numerous changes behind and in front of the camera, starting with the lead role of Dr. Christopher Duntsch, now played by Joshua Jackson after Jamie Dornan was forced to drop out due to scheduling conflicts. Alec Baldwin, AnnaSophia Robb, Carrie Preston, and the Mr. Robot duo of Christian Slater and Grace Gummer also star. Maggie Kiley (a late replacement for Stephen Frears) directs the first two episodes as part of an all-female director slate that also includes Jennifer Morrison and So Yong Kim.

French writer-director-musician Quentin Dupieux has been creating cinematic oddities since his 2010 feature debut, Rubber. Following great reviews for his most recent film, Deerskin, Dupieux managed to impress critics again (on last fall's festival circuit) with this even more accessible comedy about two simple-minded friends (played by French TV comedians Gregoire Ludig and David Marsais) who find a giant fly in their trunk and set out to train it in hopes of making a fortune.
Masters of the Universe: Revelation MINISERIES Trailer Animation Netflix
Picking up after the events of the 1980s syndicated animated series He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, the Netflix-exclusive Revelation comes from Kevin Smith—yes, the one you are thinking of. He has crafted a series aimed at the Gen Xers who originally watched He-Man (as children) when it first aired. So expect something a bit talkier and more complex than the original, even if the visuals look familiar. Naturally, Jason Mewes is in the cast, but so are Mark Hamill, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Chris Wood, Lena Heady, Stephen Root, Henry Rollins, Phil LaMarr, Diedrich Bader, and Alicia Silverstone. The series will air in two parts, so only five episodes will stream today, but they will be accompanied by an aftershow, Revelations: The Masters of the Universe Revelation Aftershow.

This BBC-produced, three-episode adaptation of Nancy Mitford's 1945 novel of the same name comes from Emily Mortimer, who makes her directorial debut in addition to writing and co-starring in the briskly paced series. Set between the two World Wars, the story follows the adventures of two (non-twin) cousins and best friends who take diverse paths in searching for their ideal husbands. The unconventional (for a period drama) soundtrack features Cat Power, Bryan Ferry, and Le Tigre, and the excellent cast is led by Lily James, Dominic West, Emily Beecham, Dolly Wells (Mortimer's co-star and co-creator in Doll & Em), and a scene-stealing Andrew Scott. Reviews were excellent when the show aired in the UK in May, with critics praising the acting, Mortimer's script, and the show's sense of fun.

Like the comics, the TV series is set in a world in which a cataclysmic event has wiped out every male on Earth (except one), leaving a planet inhabited by women. Diane Lane, Amber Tamblyn, Olivia Thirlby, Ashley Romans, and Marin Ireland star. It has been a bumpy journey from page to screen: The original showrunners, Michael Green and Aida Mashaka Croal, departed the production in 2019 over creative differences, and were eventually replaced by Eliza Clark (Animal Kingdom, Rubicon), while original last man portrayer Barry Keoghan left the series in early 2020 and was replaced by Ben Schnetzer (Warcraft). Three additional stars, Imogen Poots, Timothy Hutton, and Lashana Lynch, were also replaced last fall when filming finally commenced. All 10 episodes were directed by women. The Nowhere Inn MOVIE Trailer Drama/Comedy/Music ($) Rent
Also opening in theaters today, this 2020 Sundance entry from director Bill Benz (making his feature debut after work on such TV comedies as Portlandia and Kroll Show) blends multiple genres into a sort of indie-rock meta-mockumentary. The setup of Nowhere Inn has musician Annie Clark, aka St. Vincent, hiring her (real-life) friend Carrie Brownstein of Sleater-Kinney and Portlandia fame to make a documentary about her tour. The through joke is that Clark is actually very boring when off-stage. At Sundance, critics generally liked the concept of the film but found it wearing a bit thin by the end of the movie.

The Beatles: Get Back MINISERIES Sneak peek Documentary/Music Disney+
Director Peter Jackson's highly anticipated Beatles documentary, originally expected to debut in theaters over the summer, is now a Disney+ miniseries. Unlike other recent theatrical-to-streaming moves, this one wasn't triggered by fears over audience sizes but rather a wealth of material—so much that the one-time feature film is now a three-part, six-hour event. Borrowing techniques he used for his WWI documentary They Shall Not Grow Old, the Lord of the Rings director has spent the better part of the past three years editing and restoring footage from over 60 hours of film shot by Michael Lindsay-Hogg during 1969 as the Beatles wrote and rehearsed 14 new songs that would eventually end up on the band's final albums, Abbey Road and Let It Be. (Lindsay-Hogg's 1970 film Let It Be also used a much smaller portion of the same footage.) A highlight of Jackson's miniseries is sure to be the Beatles' legendary final concert performed from the rooftop of their London headquarters, which will be shown in its entirety for the first time in history, but the expanded footage also allows the director to show how relations between the four band members at the time were not as acrimonius as widely believed. Only the first part of the series streams today; parts two and three will follow on Friday and Saturday.

The Hot Zone: Anthrax MINISERIES Trailer Drama Nat Geo, tbd
Though the original Hot Zone miniseries was based on a single book (and a real-life incident), Nat Geo has turned it into an ongoing anthology series that will no longer have any connection to Richard Preston's best-seller. Instead, this second season is set amidst the mail-based anthrax attacks in the United States in the months following 9/11, and recounts the FBI's search for the suspect responsible. Tony Goldwyn, Daniel Dae Kim, Harry Hamlin (playing anchorman Tom Brokaw), and Dylan Baker star in the six-hour series, which will air across three consecutive nights.

They are saying Rosemarys Baby second half is on May-15-2014 at 9pm but then looking at that date it shows the American Comedy Awards for that time and date on that channel .??? Which is correct and when is the wrong one actually showing? I want to see both .
