Not as easy to summarize in a single sentence as previous mockumentary projects from writer-director Christopher Guest (Best in Show, Waiting for Guffman), this new comedy series stars Chris O'Dowd (Bridesmaids) as a recently unemployed man who uses his new free time to investigate his family roots in both England and the U.S. after receiving a mysterious package from an aunt he didn't know he had. Family Tree does feature many of Guest's usual collaborators in supporting roles, including Michael McKean, Bob Balaban, Ed Begley Jr., Jim Piddock (who also writes), and Fred Willard, plus Guest himself.

This comedy about feuding siblings who compete (literally) to win their late father's inheritance comes from the producers of How I Met Your Mother and stars Scott Foley, Becki Newton, T.J. Call her crazy? Anne Heche stars as an ordinary suburban housewife who nearly chokes to death on a sandwich and recovers to find out that she can talk to god. At least, that's what she says, and while her husband (Michael Landes) and friends are skeptical, events start to suggest that she might be telling the truth. Critics didn't quite know what to make of the pilot when they first saw it a year ago, but most were pretty sure that they didn't enjoy it, and NBC hasn't exactly demonstrated confidence in the series by delaying it until the summer month(s).

Debuting at 12:01am on the Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend (so you really have no excuse not to binge-watch), Netflix's one-off revival of the critically acclaimed cult comedy Arrested Development will feature 15 new episodes, all available for immediate streaming. Each episode will focus on a single character (only Jason Bateman appears in every episode), and they set up a story for an eventual Arrested Development movie, though that hasn't been greenlit yet. The entire cast returns (with Michael Cera pulling double duty as a member of the writing staff), along with returning guests like Martin Mull, Judy Greer, Liza Minnelli, Ben Stiller, Carl Weathers, Ron Howard, and Andy Richter and newcomers such as John Slattery, Kristen Wiig, John Krasinski, and Seth Rogen. For fans not signed up with the streaming service, a DVD release is likely later in the year, though a release date hasn't been announced.

Movie | 9p |
Director Steven Soderbergh's final film before his alleged retirement/hiatus is headed to the small screen rather than cineplexes, though it will debut in competition at Cannes prior to airing on HBO. Based on the book of the same name by Scott Thorson (adapted here by screenwriter Richard LaGravenese), the film depicts the five-year secret relationship between Thorson (Matt Damon) and famed (and famously flamboyant) pianist/entertainer Liberace (Michael Douglas, a lock for an Emmy nomination). At first glance, the sequins and styling scream satire—aside from the leads, you'll also see actors such as Dan Aykroyd, Rob Lowe, and Scott Bakula looking ridiculous—but Soderbergh has a serious story to tell here, and he's gone to great lengths to research and recreate the period. The film also features the final score composed by the late Marvin Hamlisch.

Rosie Larsen isn't back from the dead, but somehow The Killing is—against all odds, the gloomy crime drama returns for a third season despite being canceled a year ago. Mercifully, the new season will focus on a completely new case: a string of murders that take place over a year after the events of season 2. Only Mireille Enos and Joel Kinnaman return from past seasons; joining them will be Elias Koteas, Peter Sarsgaard, and Amy Seimetz. And, for what it's worth, producer Veena Sud has promised to wrap up the new story in a single season. Note that two episodes air back-to-back tonight; subsequent weeks will see the series shift to 9p.

An atypically ambitious bit of summer programming from CBS, this 13-episode serialized drama is an adaptation of Stephen King's best-selling novel by noted comic book author and former Lost writer Brian K. Vaughan. If you've seen The Simpsons Movie, you know the basic storyline—a small town is sealed off from the rest of the world by a mysterious, transparent dome—though here it serves as fodder for a post-apocalyptic sci-fi mystery that explores themes of faith, fear, and fascism. Mike Vogel (Pan Am) and Dean Norris (Breaking Bad) head the ensemble cast, while Niels Arden Oplev, responsible for the original film version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, directs the pilot, with Lost's Jack Bender also a director and producer on subsequent episodes. (Given the shared off- and on-screen talent—including co-star Jeff Fahey—do expect a lot of Lost comparisons, but if any recent show deserves them, this looks to be it.) Producers have suggested that the story could continue for multiple seasons if this summer's episodes are successful; they have also noted that King's 1,000-page book is just a jumping-off point for the stories they wish to tell, and that they have a specific ending (whenever it comes) in mind that differs from the novel's.

One of the reasons that Dexter was moved up to summer was to serve as a lead-in to Showtime's latest drama series, this one set among the rich and famous of Los Angeles, where professional fixer Ray Donovan (Liev Schreiber) can make any problem go away. Any problem, that is, except for the one in his own home, where his recently freed convict father (Jon Voight) is proving to be most unwelcome. The strong cast for series creator Ann Biderman (Southland) and director/producer Allen Coulter (The Sopranos) also includes Paula Malcomson, James Woods, Eddie Marsan, Steven Bauer, and Frank Whaley, while Elliott Gould, Rosanna Arquette, and Peter Jacobson guest star.

FX's latest original drama series comes from Homeland and Cold Case producer Meredith Stiehm and writer Elwood Reid, who are adapting the Scandinavian crime drama Bron. Set on the U.S.-Mexico border (rather than the original's Denmark/Sweden setting), the series stars Demián Bichir as a homicide detective in Juarez, and Diane Kruger as his American counterpart in El Paso, who are forced to work together when a killer starts leaving victims on both sides of the border. Ted Levine, Annabeth Gish, and Thomas M. Wright also star.

Yes, it's another Netflix original series for all you binge-watchers out there; this one comes from Weeds creator Jenji Kohan. Based on the book by Piper Kerman, the dramedy is set in a women's prison, where an engaged Brooklynite played by Taylor Schilling (The Lucky One) begins serving a one-year sentence thanks to her long-ago college girlfriend, a drug-runner played by Laura Prepon (That '70s Show). Last year's debut season of Aaron Sorkin's latest talk-heavy TV drama didn't exactly recapture his old West Wing magic; the show received decidedly mixed reviews and seemed to draw as many hate-watchers as actual fans. But big changes are in store for season 2, including behind the scenes, where Sorkin has retooled his writing staff. On screen, the action jumps ahead to the long-ago year of 2012, with storylines revolving around the presidential election and other items in the news that year as well as a more fictitious wrongful termination lawsuit that threatens the careers of Will (Jeff Daniels) and Charlie (Sam Waterston). New faces this season include Patton Oswalt, Grace Gummer (aka Meryl Streep's daughter), and Marcia Gay Harden (a late replacement for Rosemarie DeWitt).

The third season of AMC's 19th century drama features a new showrunner (John Wirth, previously of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and V) and a new night: Saturdays. The action will move ahead to the year 1867, and while Anson Mount's Cullen Bohannon will be at the center of the show, the third season will de-emphasize his revenge storyline and focus on the work of building the transcontinental railroad and the growth of big business in America.

It could be a while before Curb Your Enthusiasm returns with new episodes (if it does at all; the decision rests with Larry David), but here's something to tide you over: a semi-improvised HBO comedy movie starring and co-written by David. He plays an executive at a start-up who gives up his interest in the company after a petty argument with his boss (out of character, we know), only to see the company hit the big time without him. Greg Mottola (Superbad) directs, and the terrific cast features Jon Hamm, Bill Hader, Kate Hudson, J.B. Smoove, Amy Ryan, Michael Keaton, Danny McBride, Philip Baker Hall, and Eva Mendes.

You'll have to wait longer than normal to see the next batch of new Breaking Bad episodes, which premiere in August rather than the expected July, but maybe that's a good thing; after these eight final hours, one of TV's finest dramas will be off the air for good. Plot details, of course, have not been revealed, but creator Vince Gilligan has already suggested that the series finale will be "polarizing" though "victorious." And both he and star Bryan Cranston have also stated that the storylines will come to a definite ending—so don't worry about any Sopranos-style ambiguousness at the end.

Set and filmed in Detroit, AMC's latest gritty drama series is based on the acclaimed British miniseries of the same name. Beginning with a cop-on-cop murder, this tale of vengeance, corruption, and organized crime blurs the lines between police and criminals, good and bad. English actor Mark Strong stars as the revenge-seeking partner of the murdered cop (reprising his role from the original miniseries), joined here by Lennie James (The Walking Dead), David Costabile (Breaking Bad), and James Ransone (The Wire).
