MIke Judge's Beavis and Butt-Head NEW Trailer Clip Animation/Comedy Paramount+
Mike Judge's cult classic animated comedy series, which ran for eight seasons on MTV in the 1990s, gets a streaming reboot a little over a decade after a short-lived MTV revival. This time, the revival is guaranteed to stick around longer: Paramount+ has ordered two seasons of Beavis and Butt-Head, which returns Judge as writer, producer, and voice of the two lead characters. Many episodes of the original series—including the music videos over which the characters comment, MST3K style, in between sketches—are already available to stream on Paramount+, and eventually (once licensing issues are sorted out) the full library should be streamable.

Writer-director Andrew Semans’ first feature since 2012’s Nancy, Please is a psychological thriller starring Rebecca Hall as a single mother to a college-bound daughter (Grace Kaufman) whose orderly life is upended when a man (Tim Roth) from her past returns. Critics admired the performances a bit more than the film itself (though that, too, earned positive reviews) when Resurrection debuted at Sundance early this year.
Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie MOVIE Animation/Family Netflix
The Sandman NEW Trailer Drama/Fantasy/Horror Netflix
A film adaptation of Neil Gaiman's best-known work was in development for decades but never came to fruition. But fans of the DC Comics series will finally get to see The Sandman on screen in the form of this Netflix series developed by Gaiman alongside David S. Goyer and Allan Heinberg. Tom Sturridge stars as Morpheus, who attempts to restore his rule (in the present day, rather than the original story's 1980s setting) following a century of captivity, while Gwendoline Christie plays Lucifer and Vivienne Acheampong plays the librarian Lucienne, a gender-swapped take on the comics' Lucien. Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Patton Oswalt, Mark Hamill, Boyd Holbrook, Charles Dance, David Thewlis, Joely Richardson, Stephen Fry, and Jenna Coleman are just some of the other names in the sprawling cast. Ten episodes—which vary wildly in tone and genre from episode to episode, by design—stream today.

The directorial debut for veteran screenwriter John Logan (Skyfall, Hugo) is a Blumhouse-produced slasher film set at an LGBTQIA conversion camp, where the campers must work together to save themselves from both the camp director's unsettling methods and a killer. Kevin Bacon, Anna Chlumsky, and Carrie Preston star.
Thirteen Lives MOVIE Trailer Drama/Thriller Prime Video
Ron Howard directs a fictionalized depiction of the dramatic rescue of members of a boys soccer team (and their coach) from a flooded cave in Thailand in 2018—an event also chronicled in the recent documentary The Rescue. The new film stars Viggo Mortensen, Colin Farrell, and Joel Edgerton, and it has experienced a few hiccups on its way to reaching audiences, though not for the usual reasons. The MGM/UA-produced film actually scored so highly in test screenings that the distributor opted to cancel its planned April release and hold it for awards season. But Thirteen Lives became an Amazon property after the one-time bookstore acquired MGM, and Amazon wanted the film out sooner. (Or maybe its algorithm did.) So here it is on Prime Video following a one-week-only, awards-qualifying theatrical run.

A League of Their Own NEW Trailer Comedy/Drama Prime Video
Few people remember that Penny Marshall's classic 1992 sports comedy, about a WWII-era professional women's baseball league, was adapted into a television series once before: In 1993, for CBS, where it lasted all of three episodes before getting pulled from the schedule. But Amazon's new reboot is guaranteed to do better: Eight episodes will stream today. Only the underlying 1943 women's pro league setting remains in the new series, which comes from Abbi Jacobson (co-creator and star of Broad City) and Will Graham (Mozart in the Jungle); otherwise, the cast, characters and story will be almost entirely new, and the women will be playing for a different team (not the Peaches). Jacobson stars alongside D'Arcy Carden, Kelly McCormack, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Chanté Adams, and Kate Berlant, while Nick Offerman plays the team's manager. Also expected to appear is Rosie O'Donnell, the one returning cast member from the original film.

Legacy: The True Story of the L.A. Lakers MINISERIES Trailer Documentary Hulu
One common complaint heard about Adam McKay's recent HBO dramedy series about the Showtime-era Los Angeles Lakers? It played fast and loose with the facts. That shouldn't be a problem with Antoine Fuqua's new 10-part docuseries covering the same period of time in Lakers history—as well as the franchise's 21st century championship teams and the less successful periods in between. While you shouldn't expect an overly critical series—Lakers CEO Jeanie Buss is among the executive producers—Legacy will dive into the recent Buss family feud following the death of patriarch and then-controlling owner Jerry Buss. Expect plenty of new interviews with members of the Lakers' 11 championship squads. The first two episodes stream today, followed by weekly single-episode installments.

After directing Tiny Furniture 12 years ago, Lena Dunham detoured into television, where, among other things, she created and starred in HBO's Girls. But early this year she finally brought her second feature film to Sundance, though it was met with a less than enthusiastic response from critics. The comedy traces the fumbling sexual awakening of a naive 26-year-old played by Kristine Froseth, while Jon Bernthal, Luka Sabbat, Scott Speedman, Taylour Paige, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Dunham herself also star.

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law NEW Trailer Comedy/Drama Disney+
Rescheduled from August 17; episodes now stream on Thursdays. Its new title almost makes it sound like a parody, but the latest Disney+ entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is very real, even if it isn't always very serious. Orphan Black's Tatiana Maslany heads the cast of the nine-episode legal dramedy as the title character, lawyer Jennifer Walters, who gains a milder version of some of The Hulk's superpowers (including turning big and green when angry) after receiving an emergency blood transfusion from her cousin, Bruce Banner (played, as in the films, by Mark Ruffalo). Tim Roth, Renée Elise Goldsberry, and Jameela Jamil also star. The series comes from Jessica Gao (whose previous writing credits include comedies Silicon Valley, Robot Chicken, and the fan-favorite "Pickle Rick" episode of Rick and Morty) while Kat Coiro directs today's opener (and several other episodes).

Arriving just two weeks before Amazon's rival big-budget fantasy series—and that can't be a coincidence, can it?—comes HBO"s first Game of Thrones spinoff. It's a prequel set in Westeros two centuries before the events of Thrones that will trace the downfall of the House Targaryen (eventually including the Targaryen civil war, which earns the name "the Dance of the Dragons"). Co-created by author George R.R. Martin (and adapted from his 2018 novel Fire & Blood) and Ryan Condal (Colony), and produced and directed (in part) by veteran GoT helmer Miguel Sapochnik, the 10-episode first season stars Paddy Considine, Emma D'Arcy, Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Rhys Ifans, Eve Best, and Fabien Frankel. Is Satan voiced by Danny DeVito? Why, yes, he is—and real-life daughter Lucy DeVito plays his on-screen offspring. Additional cast members include Eugene Cordero, Michael Shannon, and Lennon Parham, while the pretty stacked guest cast includes Mel Brooks, William Jackson Harper, Pamela Adlon, Rhea Perlman, Dave Bautista, June Diane Raphael, Sam Richardson, Lamorne Morris, and former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. Trevante Rhodes (Moonlight) stars as heavyweight champion boxer Mike Tyson in a controversial eight-episode biographical miniseries from the I, Tonya team of writer Steven Rogers and director Craig Gillespie. Why is it controversial? Mainly because Tyson himself (who did not participate in the production in any way) has spoken out against it, calling the series "tone-deaf." The cast also includes Russell Hornsby (as promoter Don King), Harvey Keitel (as Tyson's coach Cus D'Amato), Laura Harrier (as actress Robin Givens, who was once married to Tyson), and Li Eubanks. Well reviewed at this year's Cannes (technically, the Directors' Fortnight parallel competition), Funny Pages is the feature directorial debut from former child actor Owen Kline (The Squid and the Whale), whose parents are actors Kevin Kline and Phoebe Cates and who counts the Safdie brothers (producers on this film) among his mentors. It's a coming-of-age comedy centering on a teenage cartoonist (Daniel Zolghardi) who refuses as his parents insist he go to college, instead opting to move away from comfortable suburbia to take a low-level job to inspire his work. Plenty of bleakly funny twists and turns follow, resulting in a film likened by multiple critics to a '90s indie comedy. It also opens in theaters today.

Daniel Dae Kim, Katie Chang, Paul Dano, Taylor Schilling, Rosemarie DeWitt, Aaron Eckhart, Scoot McNairy, Corey Stoll, Maude Apatow, Ron Livingston, and William Hurt (in what turned out to be his final performance completed before his death) are just some of the voices you'll hear in this animated drama adapted by Craig Silverstein (Turn: Washington's Spies) from a short story collection by noted sci-fi author Ken Liu. Centering on the concept of uploading human consciousness to the cloud—and, in particular, on a bullied teen girl who receives help from what appears to be her dead father—Pantheon has already been renewed for a second season and is expected to air at some point on cable's AMC in addition to streaming on AMC+. New episodes (eight in total) stream weekly.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power NEW Teaser1 Teaser2 Trailer Drama/Fantasy Prime Video
What will likely be the most expensive TV series of all time—with a budget reportedly twice that for the entire LOTR film trilogy, though it does come with free two-day shipping—finally makes its debut after years of production. Filmed in New Zealand like Peter Jackson's movies, prequel series The Rings of Power is not directly adapted from J.R.R. Tolkien's books but instead depicts a brand new story set in the same world but taking place in the "Second Age," several millennia prior to the events of The Hobbit during a time in which the rings of power were forged by Sauron. Settings include the island kingom of Númenor and the Elvish capital, Lindon. J.A. Bayona directs the first two episodes, while the remaining S1 episodes come from Wayne Che Yip and Charlotte Brandstrom. Those episodes will stream weekly rather than all at once, and a second season (to be filmed in the UK) has already been ordered and will be dropped off behind the planter on your front porch sometime next year.

  Willow NEW Trailer Drama/Fantasy Disney+
A Lucasfilm-produced TV series sequel to Ron Howard's 1988 fantasy film of the same name, Willow finds Warwick Davis reprising his role as the title character, a dwarf sorcerer, in a story that takes place 20 years later. The TV adapation comes from Jonathan Kasdan, who also serves as showrunner alongside Wendy Maricle.

The winner of the top prize at this year's Sundance Film Festival, the feature debut from writer-director Nikyatu Jusu draws on West African folklore to tell the story of a Senegalese immigrant (Anna Diop) who leaves her own son behind (temporarily, she hopes) to find work in America, where she secures a job as a nanny for the young daughter of wealthy white Manhattanites. But her already difficult life becomes more so as a series of haunting dreams plagued by an ominous supernatural presence begin to blur into reality. The film will also play in theaters beginning November 23rd.
