Plus, his new ravel abilities mimic his classic copy abilities, adding something new to every stage of this action-adventure game. Ravel abilities allow Kirby to drop buttons like bombs or wield a wire like a sword. And that’s just the beginning of all the makeshift magic. Dead end? Unzip a secret passage. Too dark? Unbutton the night to shed some light. Boss blocking your way? Unravel its face! As you play, you’ll collect decorative treasures for Kirby’s Pad. Show yours off with the StreetPassTM feature. If story mode isn’t tough enough, see if you can earn more collectibles in Devilish Mode. In this harder mode, you must survive without invincibility as devils obstruct your path through each stage. There are also all-new minigames starring Meta Knight and King Dedede. Expand

Kirby’s Extra Epic Yarn is a near perfect port. The improvements Nintendo and Good-Feel have incorporated into the game should appease fans that wanted a more faithful Kirby title the first time around, while also giving players more reason to stick with the game after the credits have rolled. Unfortunately, the 3DS hardware just isn’t up to the task of faithfully converting the charming visual aesthetic of the Wii original. Still, those who have never experienced the game before will find Kirby’s Extra Epic Yarn‘s relaxing pace and gorgeous soundtrack more than worth the cost of entry; it’s just a shame this wasn’t released on Switch.

Whether you're looking to relive Kirby's adventure into Patch Land or want to pick up the game for the first time, Extra Epic Yarn provides hours of good fun, all wrapped up in charming, craft-influenced visuals. This 3DS port is the best version of the game, hands down.

Funny and inventive, free from challenge or punishments and with just enough content and collection to keep you engaged, Epic Yarn is one of the prettiest and finest stress-free platformers around. The 3DS version makes some sacrifices, but it's just as heart-warming.

Those craving a challenging platformer are still better off getting their fix from Mario or Donkey Kong in spite of the new Devilish Mode, but those looking to unwind, collect and explore a creative and imaginative world will find a journey worth taking with your 3DS at least one last time.

This feels like pants that are pre-ripped for some reason, as opposed to the charming comfort of what came before. [Issue #39 – May/June 2019, p. 70]

Kirby’s Extra Epic Yarn does not manage to improve as much as it was expected but, at the same time, it still is in optimal conditions and provides a slight upgrade on its visuals. Furthermore, it is a delightful experience on the Nintendo 3DS.

There's enough on display here that, if you were a big fan of Kirby's Epic Yarn, you could get at least get a couple more hours of entertainment out of it. However, assuming you’re not a big fan, than I would suggest waiting for something with a bit more substance to come out, which should be around Metroid Prime 4’s release.

(Besides Triple Deluxe and Planet Robobot). I'm sorry, but Kirby has gone downhill after Planet Robobot. We got the subpar E-shop titles. The mediocre spinoff Battle Royale. There was also Star Allies, which I complained about already for how bland, uninspired, easy, and forgettable I thought the game was. Sadly, the best Kirby game since 2017 is a port of a nearly decade old Wii game. If you were a fan of Epic Yarn, you're gonna love this as it adds "extra" content like a harder mode (great for people who complain about how easy the main game is). Expand

I just wish something like wireless co-op could have happened so someone else could play as prince fluff but that's fine I guess.

If Kirby games are meant for 6 years and above, this one would fall more into the 4 and above category as there is no way to get a game over and would serve as a perfect entry level game for any child. It's child-like charm was not a hindrance to me though, Kirby is Kirby! Expand

The game has a lot of charm and personality, there are some absolutely great ideas at play, but sadly the level design can be a bit jarring and boring. There is absolutely fun to be had, but the game has a lot of wasted potential.
