Super Mario 3D Land reinvents everything fans love about Mario gaming with the first platforming environment in true 3D, without the need for special glasses. Players will experience a new sense of depth, distance and speed while running, jumping and stomping on enemies throughout the levels. Tanooki Mario returns: The fan-favorite Tanooki suit makes its first appearance on the Nintendo 3DS. Use the Tanooki suit’s tail to attack enemies or float gently down from great heights. These abilities help players move through the 3D environments with more confidence. 3D visuals make it easier for players to judge the depths and distances in their environments. Players can more accurately judge the jump to the next platform or how far Mario is from a question block. New and familiar abilities add unique game-play strategies to the adventure. Mario can perform a rolling somersault attack or run fast with a dash move. The Circle Pad gives players complete control to confidently move Mario through fun and challenging environments. New enemies include Goombas with tails, tall stacks of Goombas and a Piranha Plant that spits ink to obscure a player’s view. [Nintendo] Expand

"There's no question – if you own a 3DS, this is the best game on the platform, and instantly worthy of a purchase. It's one of the best portable platformers I've ever played (and I've had my fair share), and an almost shockingly good Mario title on any platform. " ... Read full review

Anyone who owns a 3DS and enjoys platformers even in the slightest should buy this. Super Mario 3D starts off as fun, and even a bit too easy, but after a few surprises later on in the game you'll find yourself white knuckled trying to get few it's more than many surprises. The 3D capabilities of the 3DS are finally being used for good and not just as icing on a cake to make it something look pretty - though, it still ends up looking great, so that's just a win-win for Nintendo! All the in game "shout outs" to many of the previous Mario franchise installments are well places and really make this game stand out. I'll go so far as to say that this is probably one of my top 3 Mario games. It's just great. I've been playing the game non-stop for a week since I've purchased it and I am still plowing through it's secrets, trying to get all the coins, etc etc. It's fun, bright and visually pleasing, sound is awesome, there is a ton of replay-ability. If you've been looking for a reason to pick up a 3DS, you've just found it. Expand

It's a very enjoyable 3DS game, and a pretty great Mario game, but it suffers a bit from some things.

Pros:
+ Gameplay: While Mario is pretty slow and the controls felt a bit clunky for me, it was still pretty fun.
+ Soundtrack: Pretty great, nothing more.
+ Post-Game: While it's mostly just rehashed versions of levels that they tried to make harder, it was pretty neat.

Mix:
= Level Design: 90% of the levels are really great, but that 10% hurts the game quite a bit, especially since it IS a platformer after all.

Cons:
- Difficulty: The game is easier than every other Mario game.
- Lack of replayability: Like I said, the game is fun, but not much replayability rests within the game (aside from beating your own time).

Overall, Super Mario 3D Land is a pretty solid entry in the Mario franchise and warrants an 8.7/10 from me.
