The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth is one of the most addictive roguelikes we've ever played. It's the kind of game that might appear a bit rudimentary at first, but it becomes more and more compelling with each subsequent session.

It's also worth noting that this is the second piece of software that's exclusive to the New 3DS, so if you're itching to get some use out of the thing, Binding of Isaac: Rebirth is your only other option after Xenoblade.

This game features a wide amount of content and a very challenging gameplay which is certain to keep players busy for some time. However, it's very difficult to understand why this game is exclusively released on the eShop of the New 3DS, as its visual environment does not seem to justify this decision.

The core Binding of Isaac experience translates extremely well on 3DS and remains as engrossing as ever. It's just a pity further opportunities weren't explored to take advantage of Nintendo's unique hardware.

But as of writing this review, I'm not having any problems. Yes, it's only rebirth, but I really enjoy having this on the go. It's perfect for the job. For 15$ (pretty cheap for the amount of enjoyment) I would recommend it to most people. Expand

Basically if you want a New 3DS exclusive, get it because it is a good game. Read on for more if you want more detail.)

Honestly one of the better "New" 3DS exclusives, but is it worth getting a "New" 3DS for?

    Not really.

It's not a bad game, in fact objectively it's got all the makings of a really good game. But it's bogged down by some really awful humor and a rather absurd starting difficulty. I understand humor can be subjective which is why i didn't rate it lower, that's an opinion that's fully on me. But the difficulty can be a massive slap to the face when you first start out. However the more you play the game the easier it becomes, through your own skills improving and through more collectibles being unlocked. It's got seeds too (like the world seeds in Minecraft but for 1 specific run of the game) which is GREAT and i honestly gave it an extra point just for that.

    So let's get into it

The humour is really vulgar, overly offensive, and downright unfunny. Where a game like Postal 2 manages to provide hilarious low-brow political and social satire while being completely and utterly offensive at the same time, this game's humour is the equivalent of that 4th grader that just figured out the armpit fart. It takes stabs at the christian faith a lot too and man like, it just isn't funny? And I dislike Christians quite a bit for personal reasons and even i'm not laughing, that's pretty bad.

You may have heard this is a randomized legend of zelda from your peers.

    It is not.

It's a 2 stick shooter placed in a Zelda esque randomized dungeon with Zelda references laced throughout that feel out of place. Why is it a 2 stick shooter? I have absolutely no idea and it doesn't feel like it adds anything by being one. Also i really love how unintuitive the save files are, there's literally no way to physical tell which one you are using other than memorization.

This honestly feels like a Flash game that belongs on newgrounds.com. No really i'm serious, it's has the same type of humour that was intended for edgy high schoolers, yet it's still competent as a game, it's very clearly well made and in all honesty, it is fun, but has a really stupid subject matter. Overall i would describe it as a good game that's been a bit misguided.

Should you get it? Honestly if you're looking for "New" 3DS exclusives yes absolutely, it is a decently competent game, but don't by the system just for it.

On a side note other than the SNES virtual console titles which i wanted and liked from the start, that's now 2 "New" exclusive titles that have been kinda "meh" for me (I own Xenoblade Chronicles 3D, don't worry that'll get an honest review if i can ever bring myself to finish it) I'm really hoping Wind-Up Knight 2 is good, otherwise i'll be a bit disappointed.

You can do way better than this Nintendo.

    Show me.

Music is almost non existent, Bosses don't obey the boundaries of the game at times, some times their sprite doesn't even show up, leaving you to fight them using only their shadows as guidance. I would not recommend this game on this console until some serious patch work is undergone. If you want to play Isaac on the go, I recommend the PS Vita version. Yeah the load times are a bit long but it's far more polished then this... Expand
