I loved my time in the Aegean. The game has its flaws, and I gamed those flaws to find an easier way to victory. But I hope the team can patch the economic systems — or at least explain them — so that it makes more sense. I don’t think they can do anything about the sea battles except to say that this game didn’t have that big a budget. I would also have liked to have some staged battles that laid out the events of The Iliad or the sacking of Troy in a narrative path. But the game can provide fans of the series with many hours of fun. And that’s no small achievement.
Another fantastic Total War game. It is a bit hard to understand the different mechanics at the beginning, but once you pass that point it is a delight. The Iliad serves as a colourful setting which mixes history and fantasy. I played as Hector and the Priam's heir deliberation created a very interesting narrative around the game. Pathfinding and discerning disembark areas were sometimes annoying, but they are minor issues.
A Total War Saga: Troy absolutely nails its Bronze Age setting and comes up with interesting ways to make the period work in its grand strategy framework, but its AI has trouble wrapping its head around it.
A Total War Saga: Troy is not a bad game, but some of the developers' decisions were quite controversial. However, it will always find its loyal fans thanks to unique setting. And it's possible that later it will be expanded and upgraded.
It is a true pleasure to discover a beloved franchise like Total War that uses the Trojan War as a background. It is a great RTS, with some fantastic artistic value and and a few novelties that make it really interesting for this series. Nevertheless, some mechanics like the economy are a bit under-exploited, especially in mid-game until the end. Difficulty feels very odd with enemies who use and abuse the agent system to sabotage your faction.
Though technically not a bad game by any stretch thanks to great art direction, solid gameplay, and several potentially fantastic ideas for the future, A Total War Saga: TROY is still an uneven and disappointingly stagnant entry in the Total War franchise.
It is a good total war game. The graphics are beautiful, the time period is interesting and the game is really well optimized. Also, the game has some interesting new mechanics and the goods/mythology is implemented really well. And it was free! So I found nothing to complain about.
It was about what I expected from a Total War game. The food requirement for armies seemed a bit ridiculous and severely slows down the pace of the game.
Date Completed: 2021-07-18
Recommendation: It got a bit repetitive toward the end but I otherwise enjoyed it.
I dont feel like playing a total war game anymore, sadly because i was a huge fan from the series. I have been playing the series from Rome (2004) until now, and for me, every new launch since Atilla i feel that something is missing in gameplay or campaign. Attention to details, more appreciation for the game with they are developing should fix the next generations. But until then, i have to content myself with a remake version of warhammer and fantasy gameplay.
SummaryA Total War Saga: TROY is the first in the award-winning strategy series to focus on the Bronze-Age Mediterranean and the legendary twenty-year conflict between the kingdoms of Troy and Mycenaean Greece, known as the Trojan War.
