Disney Speedstorm establishes a very interesting, fun and promising structural base. If it is not a revolution in the genre, it knows how to rely on the rich universe of Mickey's house IPs and does so in a pleasant, immersive and seductive way, leaving to be seen whether, in the near future, the business model adopted here will be adequate (or not) for the platform and audience to which it is dedicated.
Chock-full of loot boxes and ready to be
monetised to within an inch of its life, it’s
nonetheless built around a superb and
fiendishly playable kart racer. [Issue#28, p.94]
This game, given you put in the effort to learn it, will blow you away. It's incredible and EASILY the best kart racer on modern consoles! ABSOLUTELY don't sleep on this! It does a lot of uniue and original stuff to make it different from Mario Kart and better imo! Seriosuly. The fact it's a live game means itll get better with time etc. So more and more content! Great stuff!
With a potentially boundless universe of characters, worlds and more to tap into, Disney Speedstorm could conceivably provide fans of the House of Mouse with a steady diet of endless Disney themed content to get stuck into. Gorgeous to look at super satisfying to play, Disney Speedstorm's pay to win mechanics aren't sufficiently weighty to substantially detract from everything that it does right and for fans of both all things Walt Disney and kart racing, Disney Speedstorm will likely prove to be an irresistible proposition that could largely mitigate the grind of its longer term prospects.
Disney Speedstorm, even in its early access form, is shaping up to be a great kart racer that can shape up to other top-tier titles within the genre. With plenty of challenges, racers, and modes to try out and unlock, completionists out there have a multitude of reasons to hop into the game again and again while burning rubber as your favourite Disney or Pixar character. While the sheer amount of quests and challenges to complete can get overwhelming at times, personally, I can't wait to see what Disney Speedstorm has in store for us - and I'll be right there at the finish line cheering them on.
Disney Speedstorm is a solid racer that ties a number of franchises together in one fun experience. Seeing fan favorites share a racetrack is a thrill, however, a variety of issues stop this from reaching the greatness of its influences. The restrictive nature of its character selection and the confusing number of currencies hinders the enjoyment. Mix in the performance issues and this racer narrowly misses the podium.
Disney Speedstorm is a solid racing game that falls victim to the free to play format, with a repetitive reward system full of loot boxes. The lack of content and slow progression make it get boring in no time.
This is soulless, unimaginative and stupid in its design and just a way for Gameloft and Disney to try to make a quick buck on an ever-growing sub-genre.
Game quality is very good, I would say in a technical level it's superior to mario kart. Good cast, gameplay is smooth, OST is a banger, tracks are super nice and different, quite a lot of different content and events, I didn't get bored yet which is a miracle tbh...
People complain about it being P2W and while on paper is true that you can pay to progress your characters you won't be facing level 40 with your fresh character as soon as you start, so people do overreact a lot on that regard, let me go in depth on this...
It's a grindy game, basically forcing you to play different characters and slowly ramp them up as you progress through single player events, and online events.
You get plenty of rewards for playing all the events in order to level up so you will slowly rank up and level up your characters while facing other people near your level (in the lower ranks) and then reach high ranks with a character (diamond+) and by that point you will have that character already past level 30 or so, otherwise you couldn't have gotten there so yes, you might find some whale lost up there but mostly it will be around your level.
Also there is a balanced gamemode (with weekly rewards) which puts everyone at the same level and you can play with the free rotation of characters even. Local and private are also balanced.
Nice graphics, Disney/Pixar heroes, but terrible matchmaking. Lvl 7 joins lvl 25+...gangbang like hell. Disbalance of characters, Wazowski very OP atm. Even for 2nd or 3rd place yr points r repeatedely deduced because of few players and game fills up the match with bots. F2P (P2W) style stinks from every corner, like by Gameloft's Asphalt. Millions of various shards for leveling yr heroes, daily and weekly events which you must to complete. You gonna love it for awhile like all F2Ps. And then you reach the "point of stuck". You cant progress at all and you begin to hate it. You have to w8 for new golden pass challlenges or (I bet it will be there in full game) pay for upgrades directly... Plus poor technical state. 5 crashes per 2 hrs on PS5 is nothing rare.
I was having fun until I saw the energy drinks that boost your characters attributes . I'm sorry but I'm not treating your game like a second job just to be able to keep up with those that have . Stop killing multiplayer games with this garbage ffs
A kart racer with shockingly good controls, music and voice acting, that falls short in the lack of tracks, predatory tactics and confusing systems. At least all characters are unlocked for local co-op, which means it's a good budget replacement for superior games such as the new Hot Wheels games, and of coarse the titan of the genre, Mario Kart.
This game is a steaming pile of garbage. For goodness sake, why are developers so obsessed with ripping-off Fortnite's UI? Enough already. Speaking of Fortnite, this was clearly made to make that Fortnite money. If these greedy developers think for one second they will make bank with this trash, then they are completely wrong and out of touch. How many freaking times do we have to see kart racers with crossover characters? It's an oversaturated market. These stupid Disney characters won't be enough to make money, in spite of their pop culture status. It won't succeed for one simple reason; gameplay. You mess up something as simple as the gameplay in an oversaturated genre, it's a guaranteed failure. The driving mechanics are beyond horrible. ●
The multiplayer is a joke with garbage matchmaking. The physics are terrible. The boring maps are lazily designed. The greedy developers added FOMO features in a pathetic attempt to get players to buy their microtransactions. This isn't a free game, it's filled with pay-to-win garbage. It's like these out of touch developers forget why free-to-play games are popular in the first place. Most of us are freeloaders in F2P games, so they need to focus on making a fun mass-appealing game. I don't recommend this game at all, even if it's free. This is dead on arrival.
