Fury Unleashed knows how to deliver an engaging gameplay, thanks to its combo system fast-paced design. If you’re ok with a rogue lite approach, we think you’ll have a great time with it.
The game is a rogue-LITE with excellent run and gun mechanics, interesting and variable bosses, hand drawn art and fairly tight gameplay. If you enjoy these types of games this is a no brainer. The length is also fairly decent and the game does things well to mix things up between runs (every "world" has variations on its end boss). Once you complete a world a few times, you have a choice of starting from the second world, so progression can be a bit easier if you want. One downside is I'm not a huge fan of the character design and the puppetry based animation is not my favorite. Otherwise this game is quite excellent and a lot of fun (it also has online and offline co-op).
Fury Unleashed takes the central gameplay loops of the likes of Dead Cells and Enter the Gungeon and infuses them with pulpy '90s action platforming resulting in one of the best roguelites currently available on Nintendo Switch. Awesome Games' effort has benefited massively from five years in development and an extended period of early access on PC that's seen its gameplay polished to near perfection with slick and responsive controls, a huge and satisfyingly meaty armoury of weapons, zippy traversal mechanics and procedurally generated levels crammed full of secrets, challenges and hard-hitting enemies waiting to stop you in your tracks time and time again. There are unfortunately some niggling framerate issues that need addressing with this Switch port but, overall, this is a superbly addictive and hugely satisfying addition to the roguelike genre.
Caught within a comic book, fight your way through as the protagonist Fury to help your creator overcome his doubt as an artist. A devilishly fun and extremely difficult rougelite that thankfully doesn't penalize you as harshly for dying as some within this genre. There is a steep learning curve in "Hard Mode" (technically normal mode) but there is an "Easy Mode" option with customizable parameters to make the game more accessible. Shoot, loot, and keep your combo going to shield you from enemies and collect health with each kill. You can even complete a whole run on one continuous combo, are you up to the task?
Every time I returned to Fury Unleashed I found myself enjoying what I played. It’s maybe not something that sucked me in and kept me glued to the screen until the end, but it entertained whenever I gave it a chance. For its price, it’s a worthwhile diversion. I just wouldn’t be surprised if nothing inside you gets unleashed.
If Fury Unleashed does not really shine with the charisma of its universe and its artistic direction quite insipid, he offers a good game experience that offers good feelings. A nice release.
This is a great game! Your character controls well, there are a great range of weapons and items to experiment with, and the combat feels really satisfying. I love this gene, but I often find these type of games a bit too hard. Not so with Fury Unleashed! Its 'easy' mode is challenging but certainly not intimidating and you feel like you are improving and making progress with every run. This is well worth trying if you enjoy run and gun shooters.
I really enjoyed this game for close to 25-30 hours, lots of cool weapons, and it's challenging - but at some point, the levels and bosses starts to feel a bit samey and some more variety would do it a world of good. Especially the level design feels a bit lazy, even though it's obviously procedurally generated. Overall though, a very good game that I had a lot of fun with for a good while.
Summary Fury Unleashed is a combo-driven roguelite action platformer - each kill you score increases your combo. Hit certain thresholds and your damage resistance and healing powers will kick in! It's a game you can even beat in one, ultimate combo. Are you up for the task?
