A creative weapons system and great control make old-school space shooter R-Type III an action gamer's dream. [Apr 2004, p.122]
This is an old school shooter and it’s a great example of what an old school shooter is and should be.
The graphics have translated nicely to the GBA, and the control works just dandy, but the level design drives me absolutey insane. [May 2004, p.108]
It looks great, absolutely. But the level design and collision detection, as well a sluggish pace and poor use of background music...well, it all adds up. R-Type III is, simply put, a bad Game Boy Advance game.
Unfortunately, somehow the sound got completely butchered along the way to this cart. The cool rock tracks have been replaced by these nice, high pitched screeching noises. This is definitely a game to turn the volume down on.
One of the worst port jobs in history. Just playable enough to make you wish that it weren't so broken. [Summer 2004, p.39]

Summary The Evil Bydo Empire seeks to wipe out our species, and you're the only one who can stop the assault. As the last pilot on Earth, you must fly the untested R-90 against the Evil Bydo.
