There really isn't much in the way of replay value once the game is beaten, as players will see most everything the first time through, and spikes in frustration due to the technology – not game design – will keep most from wanting to make a return visit.
-
Nintendo PowerThe game is solid, displaying the attention to detail you'd expect from a Nintendo-published platformer. [Aug 2005, p.84]
-
It's not a bad game by any means; it's just a repetitive and disappointingly short one.
-
Play MagazineWhat does hold the game back a bit is a design that emphasizes collecting items or similar objectives within small stages instead of focusing on grand level design and epic boss battles. [Aug 2005, p.57]
-
It just isn't a good Nintendo published game.
-
Everything about the game feels like it needs just a little bit more polish, especially the tilt sensor. What could be a very innovative and fun mechanic to add to a platforming game ultimately falls short of its goal and only manages to hamper the gameplay.
-
A cool concept with a flawed execution, Yoshi fans with a lot of patience will probably really dig this game. But it's nowhere near as good as it could have been.
-
It feels incredibly hard to master, and at times the levels just come across as a little bit too overwhelming.
-
Once you finish the game (it will only take a few hours) there is absolutely nothing left to accomplish. It's not worth the full price of the game.
-
Unlike most Nintendo-published titles, the game really feels like it lacked direction, and as a result the game is more annoying than fun. If you're a diehard for Yoshi platformers, you'll enjoy the game on some.
-
The tilt concept most likely looked great in a design document, but in practice the idea makes everything feel forcefully clunky.
-
So while the short, yet creative stages and their goals are clever, the tilt controls do little more than jumble the good stuff up.
-
If you are a fan of platform games and love Nintendo's previous efforts you won't find much fun or excitement here.
