One of the best in the series with exciting gameplay and clever mission objectives.

The backgrounds are beautifully rendered and the action runs nonstop. [May 2003, p.138]
  3. It's by no means an original experience, but it still manages to entertain from start to finish. Army Men fans are going to love it.
  4. There are literally dozens of better third-person-perspective, run-and-gun shooters on the market right now.

The game is still traeemark Army Men clunky, but you can look past the sloppier qualities - it still smacks of low-key production value - and enjoy the ceaseless combat for its base appeal. [June 2003, p.56]

Any aspect of the game that apires to distinction is negated by mediocrity. [May 2003, p.126]

The games controls are clunky, the camera is spazzy, and the action stutters like crazy. [May 2003, p.41]

I would call this a spoiler alert, but since it was basically advertised all over the game, can't call it much of a spoiler. Essentially every main character save for Sargent Hawk is left dead or MIA, which alone caused much of the fanbase to revolt. To ad to that, Hawk has become a serious, no-nonsense soldier with a grim outlook on life; as opposed to the playful, joke cracking hero we always had before. Environments are dark, dank and forlorn... weapons are metal instead of plastic... the list of changes here is endless. In my honest opinion, story and ascetic changes aside, Sarge's War is only and okay that limps to a 7 due to a great multiplayer. Gameplay feels much less 'fun' than the previous installments, it's a very short game (only about a dozen or so levels), and the soundtrack is almost nonexistent. Not to say it's a bad game, it's one of the better installments Army Men got in the 6th generation of consoles tbh and has its moments. But it's almost purely for the hardest of hardcore Army Men fans and military shooter fans, and even then feels lacking(sans the multiplayer). Also if you grew up with Sarge's Heroes and Air Attack and all those great games, might wanna skip a cut-scene or two. You may end up with some man tears. Or just bawling in general. Expand
