  1. One of the most entertaining games I’ve played in a long time.

It's not quite the flagship title you might expect for a Nintendo launch, but Luigi's Mansion is still a must-have.
  3. The graphics are top-notch, the sound is catchy and simply lovable, the controls are delightful and the gameplay is original and just so much fun. But the whole thing is dragged down by the frighteningly short game time.
  4. When you’re talking about a Miyamoto launch title, "pretty good" just won’t cut it.
  5. Fun. In fact, it's five or six of the best hours you can spend on any system this year. Unfortunately, that's all that it is.

Like getting socks for Christmas, it's good and comfortable, but not what we wanted. [Feb 2003, p.96]

If you are a Mario fan, you'll probably walk out of the store with this one anyway, just don't expect the second coming.

A stellar launch title - it makes perfect sense why Mario Sunshine was sidelined during the launch in favor of this game.

    Pros:
-Luigi's first major game as a headliner (Mario is Missing was technically the first - this game is based off of that)
-A stellar example of the great graphical and audio capabilities of the system.
-Amazing story - Introduction of new characters, the bosses in the game are absolutely perfect
-Level design is A+, the mansion and all it's 4 areas are incredible! The game becomes more addicting as you adventure throughout more of the mansion.
    -Fantastic controls

    Cons:
-The game's difficulty level is a little too easy and if you've played loads of times the game can be beaten in less than 20 hours.
    - Released a little less than a month AFTER halloween as GCN was launched November 18th 2001.

Luigi's Mansion still remains as a key franchise for Nintendo today with Luigi's Mansion 3 being one of the biggest titles for Switch so far. None of the sequels have the charm that the original have.

Luigi's Mansion also takes away the pain of having only 1 game on Gamecube developed by Rareware.

Luigi's Mansion remained one of the best demonstrations of the Cube's fire, lighting and water effects- in fact only the Resident Luigi's Mansion remained one of the best demonstrations of the Cube's fire, lighting and water effects- in fact only the Resident Evil remake rivalled it in that respect. It's essentially Luigi being a 'Ghostbuster' in an old Resident Evil-type mansion, all in a cartoon style. The animations are charming, the game has lots of atmosphere, it achieves what it clearly sets out to do and, in that respect, it's superior to Super Mario Sunshine and The Wind Waker to me. It also seems to have been more successful than Rare's similar in some respects 'Grabbed by the ghoulies', which is also a charming looking game. Expand

I remember being terrified playing this. It was my first horror game I played. The atmosphere, the haunting music, and the mansion itself it creepy as the game moves on. In a way, this is Luigi as a ghostbuster and it's fun to play. It has a decent gameplay though and a bit playable but to me it will always be in my heart. Expand

I really don't see what's so cool about some guy in green tights with a vacuum strapped to his back.
