  1. The variety of game modes, the spice of the power shots, the unbelievable graphics, and the endless amount of replayability make Mario Power Tennis possibly one of the best Nintendo games on the market.
  2. As a Mario game, it is bursting with charm and laughs from all your favorites, and as a tennis game it is both solid and fun to play - Mario Power Tennis comes Heartily recommended.
  3. As long as you are not in tournament mode, the game can be the most normal game of tennis you've ever played, or the most ridiculous one you've ever played.
  4. If you're looking for a quick, fun game that demands reflexes, has replay value by the bucket loads, and is a blast to play with friends, check it out.

It's based on excellent gameplay mechanics that are taken in really interesting directions through gimmick courts. Mastering each player will take dozens and dozens of hours. Multiplayer games are a total riot.
  6. Mario Power Tennis is all about a great game of tennis, with responsive controls, colorful graphics, and a nice, lighthearted style. Fans of the sport shouldn't be surprised if they find one of the best tennis games out there.

With so much going on, getting any enjoyment out of the multiplayer modes is far too much work and the simple, fun aspect found in titles like Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour and Mario Kart: Double Dash!! has been replaced by, well, clutter. [Jan 2005, p.112]

Every character has his animations, the intro is great and I love the bloopers, too. This kind of things miss in the new games. The gameplay is great. What I don't love are the special shots. They are just... too random. Mini games are very good, too. It's a game that you will play for a lot of time. Expand

Camelot for the most part got it right, but they also added some minor unwelcome elements (for mario golf it was an easy swing that can't be disabled and boo moving across the screen every 3 seconds). Mario Power Tennis has power offensive and defensive moves which can't be turned off except in multiplayer. They add a neat new element to gameplay, but you have to watch a predone 2-3 second animation sequence every time. It's a bit disruptive to gameplay when these happen 3 or 4 times every rally. It can also be frustrating to see an opponent return an obvious winner after it's already past him. Again, it can be an interesting gameplay element, but they seriously should have included the option to disable it. Other than that, there's not a lot to complain about. Maybe unforced errors could be a bit more frequent. It may take you 10 tennis matches before you see a ball called out. The new gimmick courts are maybe the most significant addition from mario golf 64. Some of the are excellent fun. Expand
