Besides the occasional inability to actually grab things as a monster, I can't really find anything detrimental in Rampage: Total Destruction. The true party game, it's that simple dose of pure fun that we really shouldn't move too far away from too often.
In the end, I don't see this title connecting with an audience beyond the most hardcore Rampage fans. [May 2006, p.97]
The series' simplified gameplay takes a step backwards with Total Destruction, and the overall experience is decidedly mediocre. But sometimes, after a hard day of work, you just want to knock over a skyscraper.
There's a reasonable amount of potential for some multi-player monster fun, but all that impromptu city demolishing action all gets old real quick. [June 2006, p.79]
The formula was never that good to begin with, and shiny new graphics, tons of new monsters, and a host of unlockable moves simply cannot hide the fact that Rampage, no matter the generation, is a bore.
It's just not fun yet. Sure, playing against people is a mild diversion, and it has a small amount of nostalgic appeal, but if they want to come up with something that's sold entirely on the basis of the fun of destruction, destruction has to be more fun than this.
The game’s best feature is its inclusion of the twenty year-old version of Rampage, which is actually smarter, deeper, and just plain better than Total Destruction. That's sad. Flee in terror.
