On paper it sounds rather banal and routine, but in practice the game is addictive and routine... You're in total control of your destiny, and you become addicted in trying to live the best life possible.
Someone out there obviously thought that creating a simulation of real-life farming was a pretty good idea -- the worrying thing is that they might just be right! It may be all too much like hard work but this game can make growing cabbages seem as addictive as Hagen Das ice-cream!
Harvest Moon 64 perfectly simulates a well rounded, less stressful farming game. It is full of nostagia for me even today at 36yrs of age myself. Its simple enough just to pickup and play compared to more involved, extended ones in the harvest moonband story of seasons games. Back in 1999, it was one of a few limited games that you could calm down the night and relax in. I rate this a perfect 10 for what it was trying to achieve for the time of release. And phrase it for all the fun elements of not only farming, but relationship building for the villagers the love of your life. And building a family after all the the home upgrades are completed. So much fun. Repeat play value all time high at 100%. Thank you to the original developers for making this. It will forever have a place in my inner childs heart.
This game has so much to do and many years after its release I am still playing it. If you want a really long game with a ton of things to do, this is a great game to play. However it won't feature a ton of action so if you want something like that you're best sticking with Majora's Mask.
We had entirely too much fun playing it for hours on end and disregarding all of the ways the game comes up short. An extremely engaging original experience on the N64. Doesn't quite satisfy the RPG-thirst, but you won't be able to put it down once you start playing.
Harvest Moon 64 features no aliens whatsoever. While we’re at it, there are no dancing monkeys for you to "be". Don’t even think about laying waste to some hellish underground network with your super-powered death rays, either. Doesn’t sound like fun? Neither does collecting a hundred and fifty animals but look how well pokemon turned out.
I was never a tamagotchi fan or even an RPG fan but this game actually proves to me why this genre is so involving. You really do dive into the life and mindset of the character. It's fresh, it's different and it's captivating. You'll enjoy it in a strange way. Kind of like how watching the TV show "Cops" is so strangely addictive.
The concept is great and the game's largely fun to play. Harvest Moon 64 does have some technical downsides to it, however, so you may just want to give the Nintendo 64 a rest and fire up your Game Boy -- all in all, that version is generally considered more stable.
I loved this game soooo much. It was fun and just one of those relaxing games. Now, 2018, we get "Light of Hope." YIKES!!! I know Harvest Moon has become Story of Seasons, but man, I miss Harvest Moon 64.
If you think living as a farmer is utterly boring, think again when you play Harvest Moon 64. The game's cute visuals and unexpected moments will always keep you coming back for more in the Harvest Moon universe. Tasks like growing crops, raising animals and finding the girl of your dreams is an addicting experience, though the time in the game does fly by pretty quickly when you are doing many things in one day. Harvest Moon can be pretty overwhelming at first, but the more you play the game, the less overwhelmed you will become. This game may have many glitches and typos in the dialogue speech boxes, but don't let that stop your farming days. If you're looking for addicting gameplay where running your own farm is fun, then Harvest Moon 64 is your crop to own. A must recommend with people who has a lot of times with their hands.
SummaryRetire to the country for a new challenge in Harvest Moon 64. Hard work is rewarded as you struggle to bring prosperity back to a neglected farm. Work the land, pick up odd-jobs, and get to know the neighbors. Harvest Moon 64 has all the charm of the original Super Nintendo classic, plus many new surprises.
* Tons of new seasonal vege...
