Horizon Forbidden West is a masterpiece. The foundation that Horizon Zero Dawn has laid is improved in every way, whether it's gameplay or story. We have amazing graphics, charismatic characters, an intriguing plot and an addictive, varied and challenging gameplay.
Overall, some minor technical nagging is the only thing that really holds back Horizon: Forbidden West back. It has a delightful protagonist, an engaging story, a wonderful setting, fun combat and exploration, and lovely visuals. I enjoyed just about every moment I spent with the game. If you were a fan of the original, then the sequel delivers on everything that it promises. Newcomers will likely want to finish Zero Dawn first, but as long as the idea of hunting robot dinosaurs with a bow and arrow sounds good, then two of the finest open-world games await you.
The first opus was excellent but left some frustration on some aspects (frequent death, overloaded HUD and map etc.). This sequel is not a revolution but they have managed to push every aspect to its better level and the mastery here is tremendous. On the technical aspect, it is the most beautiful game I've played so far on the PS5, and the performance mode is the sweet spot. The sidequests are deeply worked and never feel like a chore. Amazing work, and a must play for open world lovers.
If you loved the original, grab this sequel that is superior in almost every aspect. Graphics, audio, story and overall narrative as well as amazing location variety are this game’s strongest points. The presence of clunky combat, controls and a number of bugs will make it harder for newcomers to experience Horizon Forbidden West. Yet what can’t be denied is the fact it’s not an „everyday title“, and as such is not for everyone.
Horizon Forbidden West is a step above its fellow open world games because it goes out of its way to ensure that everything is worth doing, not just the main story. It's more of the same from Zero Dawn in a lot of ways, but with significant improvements across the board to create a generally superior experience. And while Guerrilla said that Horizon Forbidden West isn't being held back by being a cross-gen game, it will be exciting to see what the studio can do when building a Horizon adventure from the ground-up for PS5. In the meantime, Horizon Forbidden West is another must-play PlayStation exclusive.
As Zero Dawn's natural evolution, Horizon Forbidden West accomplishes what a sequel should achieve: reaching new heights. Guerrilla Games builds a great world, perfecting every aspect of the first episode.
Horizon Forbidden West is a clear step up from the first game. With the addition of new biomes, extra tools, an extremely compelling story, and a ton of content to keep you busy, this is another single-player action-adventure hit for PlayStation. It’s amazingly fun to play, consistently incredible to look at, and even while writing these words, all I’ve wanted to do is jump back into the Forbidden West.
Horizon Forbidden West fails to live up to its predecessor in just about every way. While the world and its many new machines are stunning, the experience is bogged down with confusing design choices and variation for the sake of variation - making Aloy's newest adventure one to forget.
This game shows best graphics on PS5 (at least on 2023). Took a photo to the TV screen, sent it to a friend and heasked me if the Horizon TV show had already aired. When it comes to the OST, without being one of the best I've listened to, it really enhancesthe experience with deep, beautiful or epic tracks.
The gameplay is very similar to the first one. Now there are some more options because new weaponscome into the scene, but apart from some exceptions, best weapons still are the same as on Horizon Zero Down. And here it is one of the downsides of the game: there are so many kinds of bows, so many kinds of weapons, that it can feel a little bit overwhelming. Because each one tries to be good for some specific target, they add a strategic aspect that doesn't really fit in the game in my opinion.
But the biggest con of this game, and what prevents it from getting a higher mark on my book, is the story. Horizon Zero Down surprised me, and fully trapped me in its world and plot. It was more difficult for this one after the events of HZD, but they could have done better. The plot now goes to a place much less interesting than before, and thenew characters are uncharismatic. It's a pity, I had high expectations from this second part.
A good game anyway, and a technical marvel, that simply falls bellow its predecesor in some ways.
I started playing on PS4, but the picture on it was too blurry, I couldn’t do it. I decided to start over on PS5, the difference is of course significant. I played at 3 FPS but in quality mode. Very clear and beautiful frame. The story in the game continues the first part and is not the most addictive; sometimes you just want to run around and hunt. I'm glad that I was able to update to the PS5 version for free from the PS4 disc.
