Angry Birds Transformers is a surprisingly good run & gun, with smooth graphics, nice shooting mechanics and a lot of characters to unlock and upgrade.

Freemium quibbles aside, as a game Angry Birds Transformers does a great job of appealing to Transformers fans old and new, while also providing yet more proof that Red, Chuck and crew are characters flexible enough to fit neatly into new stories and game genres.

The free-to-play cash-grabbery is invasive, but the game is a lot of fun. [Issue#255, p.77]

It's absolutely worth your time, even under the frustrating veneer of free-to-play madness.

Transformed in a way you wouldn't expect, Angry Birds Transformers is a quite entertaining auto-runner.

Although Angry Birds Transformers doesn’t reach stratospheric heights due to its repetitive gameplay, there are other elements that should keep you intrigued for the long run.

Yes, it is fun, but it doesn't feel as rewarding or addictive as other Angry Birds games. Still, a crossover worth checking out.

It's a fun run & gun with some fantastic graphics, excellent controls, and some of your favorite Angry Birds and some of your favorite Transformers. Plenty references to the old cartoons are abound and the amount of explosions pokes fun at the Michael Bay movies.

Each Transformer bird has it's own powers and the way the platforms in the levels are set up are a reference to the series roots. Destroying the right piece can cause the whole thing to go down taking out the enemies with it. Even better is that it's free-to-play.

You don't have to put down a dime in this game and the plethora of great content makes it feel like a steal. The gameplay might not change much throughout, but overall it's a very fun experiment that's worth the download. I give it an 8.9/10.

Perfect commuter game - I say this, because like all freemium games there is a pay-wall in the form of game timers. You will run out of available levels to play, and your choices are to either wait for more to spawn, or pay real money to spawn more at once. Your bots need to be upgraded to tackle more challenging levels, and that process takes time (or you can pay to upgrade instantly). As your bots take damage in levels, you can restore them over time or pay to heal them immediately. Thankfully the timers hit just about the time that the gameplay itself starts to feel a tad repetitive, so for those of us with shorter attention spans (or a short commute) it's not really noticeable. Hardcore grinders will be frustrated as this game gates player progress very strictly, unless you want to put up some cash. Later patches added more "cash-grab" touches like a "nuke" option to blow away a challenging level (costs money to use), special bonus events with above-average rewards (costs money to open), and - gasp! - cosmetic items to attach to your bots, which have no affect on gameplay but which cost a LOT of money. Some users reported bugs where game progress would be lost - I thankfully haven't encountered this, but occasionally the game will quit to the home screen in the middle of a level (no real impact - just have to open the game again and re-launch the level). Of course there are the obligatory commercials between levels, standard fare for any free game, but they are short. Graphics are gorgeous, including little touches like slow-motion (when you dodge a falling object just in the nick of time), or the "VHS ripple" effect when your bot gets low on energy. Overall a fun game to play. Expand
