The GTI MK6 is built in Wolfsburg, Germany and Changchun, China. This model is available as a hatchback, estate and convertible. The Golf's A5 (PQ35) platform is shared with many models such as the Audi A3, TT, Volkswagen Touran, Jetta, Eos, Passat, Tiguan and Scirocco. Seat models such as the Leon, Toledo, Altea as well as the Skoda Octavia are all based on the Golf. Golf Engines range from the 1.2 liter TSI, the 1.4 liter turbocharged 4-cylinder and the 2.5 L 5-cylinder.

The Golf R is now the ultimate version of this car with the 2 liter FSI turbocharged engine producing 267 bhp and 260 lb-ft of torque. The R uses a revised version of the Haldex 4motion four-wheel drive system. Like many Golfs this model's top speed is limited to 155 mph.
