One of the best mobile games at the time, with an impressive story length yet issues with it's ideas Iron Man 3: The Official Game falls short of a lackluster mobile game.
This game has really improved since its launch, both in content and in gameplay. The freemium aspect was dumbed down overall and it makes for a huge difference. It is really enjoyable when you start getting the hang of it and remember to close all running apps, as it is memory heavy. Don't be fooled, though, you'll probably enjoy this game the most if you are the completionist kind.
The overall lack of accessibility knocks Iron Man 3 down several pegs, but considering the unimpressive history of superhero video games, this one still manages to shine, with its intense flying, daily challenges and fan service. Money improves this title considerably, but you don't need to spend it to have a decent time.
Iron Man 3 – The Official Game (Free, Universal) delivers a great feel for playing as Iron Man, but that wears off after a few redundant flights. The base gameplay just doesn’t do enough to make you care to keep going to reach the minimal story elements, and new environments.
This free movie tie-in game does fan-service right by having classic characters from the Iron Man fiction, but it stumbles when it comes to gameplay. It's an infinite-runner with next to no plot, but has classic villains and decent graphics. The game starts off interesting enough, but when you actually start to spend some time with it you begin to realize that it's just not a polished enough experience to be worth keeping around for more than the 15-20 minutes it takes to see what it has to offer. As typical in infinite-runners you spend most of your time dodging obstacles. This is easier said than done thanks to the awkward controls. Tilting with the gyroscope controls works well, but the touch screen controls are worthless allowing you to either tap the screen or slide your finger across it. Tapping the screen is inaccurate and can be disorientating do to the speed of it, and sliding your finger isn't fast enough to allow you to dodge objects. So stick to the gyroscope controls for this one. When you're not dodging objects you're shooting enemies, which is also awkward thanks to inaccurate touch screen controls. Boss battles can be fun but they don't save this game. The whole experience is just way to mediocre for me to recommend, and when you consider how everything from repairing and upgrading your armor is tied to a timer that the game encourages you to spend a special in game currency (that can be purchased with real money, go figure), and this game just isn't worth your time no matter how free it is. It might be worth a look to the Iron Man super fan, just don't expect to spend any real time with it.
This game would have gotten a lower score if it wasn't for the fact that this a movie license game on IOS which everyone expects to bad at this point. The game play is boring and repetitive as you fly with some frustrating controls by moving the Ipad back and forth instead of just swiping it like your playing tug of war with the game. Granted the game does work like it is intended with little to no glitches except the core game play is not enough to hold your attention. The biggest nail in the coffin though is that when you die you have to sit and wait in order to re spawn. If you want to speed up the process you must pay for micro transactions. This is a dirty tactic to con money out of the player. There are plenty of other free to play games like League of Legends which work to earn your money instead of holding the game play hostage unless you pay a ransom. If you are interested in the story expansion to this game, don't bother because the plot is barely noticeable and inconsequential to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. You should all skip this one.
