Despite a limiting always-online requirement and a current lack of support for docked/tabletop play, Lightseekers rescues itself from by disaster thanks largely to the robust nature of its card system, the support for scanning in physical cards and the sheer depth of tactics available to different skill levels. Thankfully, it's also free-to-play and the the ability to earn digital cards at a steady pace via in-game challenges will keep players coming back for more each day. It’s great to finally have a proper CCG on Switch – even if it's not properly optimised for Nintendo’s hybrid console quite yet.
The designers don't seem to have understood how strategy works with card games, and, unfortunately, that's really what differentiates a good TCG from a very poor one.
This game deserves more attention, imho. It's really hard to finde some CCG with unique gameplay nowdays, but Lightseekers is really different from miriads of HS and MTG clones. Btw game was updated and now its playable in both modes handheld and docked.
P.S. Some critics could go with their opinion far away, I would even say that they can shove their opinion deeper into where "the sun does not shine"!
This game has proven to be much more enjoyable than I was anticipating. That's awesome. It's a good TCG for anybody wanting to try out a new TCG, whether they be a newbie or a veteran, and there's lots of modes, both PvE and PvP, to check out and play with. I really like how well-developed the PvE side is, with modes to keep anyone busy for weeks.
It kinda **** that the PvE portion of the game isn't offline - but then again, I have yet to find a TCG where the game can be offline for any part of it, maybe one day- but I can say that the game works well. I haven't experienced any lag and matchmaking is quick, taking about 10-30 seconds. What is a plus in my book is how communicative the devs are, willing to engage with the players about feedback and bugs. An they're quick to fix issues or be at least transparent on what is happening. This game can get more grinding as reaching higher levels requires more matches or higher, stronger matches to beat, but the rewards are generous and quite useful. Won't lie, but sometimes the game can be a bit pushy in showing a bundle deal in the store, but it isnt too intrusive, just a bit annoying when it does pop up every once in a while. Theres over 1,000 cards to collect, plenty of avatars, playmats, and card backs to collect, and the shift to make Lightseekers more digital definitely made the game more balanced and more engaging. It works well with the Nintendo Switch system, being able to switch between touchscreen and controls with a breeze. Its optimized quite well nowadays.
This game is so much fun! A perfect game for short bursts of play and even long play sessions. It's a bit of a bummer that the PvE mode of the game isn't offline, but if you're in a place of wi-fi, this game is a total blast! There's also a robust PvP, with modes like Casual, Draft, Ranked, and Casual Advance to keep the game engaging with others (I definitely recommend Draft and Casual Advanced modes the most). PvE is fleshed out as well, with 3 major mades and limited and even difficult (worth it, though) challenges throughout the week for extra rewards. Now for the F2P aspect of the game, I will say it is generous with its rewards. It's pretty darn easy to get to get gold and shards (for crafting) and obtaining packs and cards with them, and gems are used to buy packs and bundles if you rather not spend your gold on that and save it for Draft mode. Definitely a game worth checking out.
Lightseekers works wonderfully on the Switch and the newest update only adds more complexity and a welcomed challenge to an already great game. It's fun to be able to switch between touchscreen and controller instantly and works fine while docked or handheld. The game performs well and there's plenty of diversity to make so many types of decks, especially with the newest update adding another family into the mix. I really enjoy this game. Will recommend.
Lack of Balancing involved, and the campaign missions are waaaay too unfair and over powered, which makes it no fun. Also the fact that you have to use touch screen to even play is an annoyance.
The card game its self is flawed it's boring and slow to play unless you buy a lot of cards or get lucky with the free pulls you get. I made it all the way to the last boss of the first world and was actually liking it up until then I was able to look past the slow game play and just play with the cards I had. The last boss is 100 times harder and suddenly felt like I had to buy more card and build a better deck just to stand a chance. Up to this point the most I was able to do in one turn was play 2 cards or skip my turn to draw 2 cards but this guys cards don't follow the same rules that was just taught to you these cards reset so they can stay on the field until you get rid of them not only that he has cards that let's him play more cards. This boss feels more like a final boss to the game not the first boss of the game. Online maybe better I tend to not play online until I beat what ever story there is so O can actually compete a little but this went from 0 to 1000 in like an hour of play time.
