Panzer Tactics HD is a good turn-based strategy game with over sixty hours of campaign to play. But if you have to choose, Panzer Corps is the better game.
Classic gameplay in a new style is entertaining, but sometimes it will also make you mad because of its unclear or illogical rules. However, Steel Panthers fans will get excited about its campaigns, and they will gladly forgive the game's minor issues.
Panzer Tactics HD feels like a game with two sides. Although the strategic side is really satisfying, the controls aren't. They are sometimes frustrating as is the lack of pace in your own turns. Still, Sproing manages to create a solid strategy game with Panzer Tactics HD.
Don't let the minimalistic visuals fool you, as a strategy game, Panzer Tactics HD knows every trick in the book.
If you have already played all the other strategy games out there, then checking it out may be worth your time and money. But, if you're looking for the strategy game to hold your heart and mind for years to come, you're looking in the wrong place.
While it's a fine tribute to Panzer General's mechanics, it actually ends up feeling a little dumber and more obtuse than the venerable vintage it pays respect to. It sings its tune well and it will entertain fans of the original but, unlike the generals whose battles it represents, it fails to either innovate or inspire.
