Grow your Pikmin, make flowers bloom, and keep track of your precious memories, all through the simple act of walking. Whether you’re going for a short walk around the corner or commuting to work, today’s the very first day of the rest of your Pikmin adventures! Gather your squad and embark on a journey of rediscovery where every step counts.

    _______________

Walk to grow more Pikmin. Pikmin grow from seedlings with every step you take. Once they are big enough, pluck them out to have them trail along. The more you walk, the more Pikmin will join your squad!

Walk to make flowers bloom. Collect flower petals from your Pikmin’s heads and plant them as you walk to leave trails of beautiful flowers in bloom everywhere you go.

Walk to log your memories. At the end of the day, check out your step count along with the path you walked, and revisit the pictures you took throughout the day. Don’t forget to send your Pikmin out on expeditions to pick up the fruit and seedlings you passed on your way back home!

Lots of Pikmin to meet. There are seven types of Pikmin in total, and all of them have their own unique characteristics. For example, some can fly, and others are incredibly strong. When your friendship level reaches a certain threshold, your Pikmin may bring back a gift with an item that will help them become a Decor Pikmin.

Tackle challenges with Pikmin. Nearby mushrooms are a great way to get lots of fruit. When you come across mushrooms blocking your path, you can send your trusty Pikmin squad to charge forth and make way.

Pikmin Bloom is much more of a life companion app than something to feverishly devour as long as your battery permits — it feels like a far 'healthier' experience for body and mind than many free-to-play games, and Niantic accomplishes its goals well. Time will tell whether it has anything like the staying power and pull of Pokémon GO, but where that game can feel like an insurmountable climb if you've put it down for any length of time, with no hope of catching 'em all, Pikmin Bloom is more of an old friend you haven't seen in years but you just pick up where you left off. Fire it up with appropriate expectations, and you'll likely have a blooming good time with it.

Pikmin Bloom isn’t the next Pokemon Go, but it is a cute way to walk more often with Nintendo’s plucky plant-like pals by your side.

Not quite a proper video game, Pikmin Bloom is a sort of a glorified pedometer that can actually help you go outside and walk in an original way.

It’s gently whimsical and considerably less mechanically complex than either Pokémon Go or Wizards Unite and while it does offer some encouragement to go out and get some fresh air, it’s almost more pedometer than game, and is all but pointless on a tablet.

Pikmin Bloom is a fine AR experience, but sadly it’s just not a good game. With the volume (and intensity) of bugs, the lack of things to actually do and a poor economy, Bloom's player base feels likely to wither without significant change. However, the game does already have a core group of players who absolutely love it, so watch this space. With enough bug fixes and quality of life improvement, Pikmin Bloom may well blossom into something worth playing.

It's not nearly as stressful nor content packed as Pokemon Go or Wizards Unite, but if you're an active person and seek out parks and recreations, it can be quite a blast and a satisfying experience. It's fun to collect and name the pikmin and as you level up, you do unlock more things to do. I just unlocked challenges and it was very satisfying to complete one and get a few cool things.

It may be more of a niche experience than Niantics two other big games, but for those of us that get it, it's quite cute and fun. Always challenges me to get more steps in as well. I'm an active and athletic person so I tend to get a lot of steps in a day (usually hatch a huge seedling before a day is up), and I'm challenged each day to raise the bar even higher for this game.

It's also nice, too, that I feel I don't even have to spend a penny on here for any better experience, though, with it being new and I'm sure others feel the same way, they will probably add content that will cause someone to feel like spending money on the game. I'm wondering how that will change my experience in the long term, but for now, I'm enjoying my time with this. You can also log pictures and journal entries for each day. So it's nice to look back on the days/week you've had.

Where as Pokemon GO! has the main feature of distance events, Pikmin Bloom uses the mobile pedometer to count your steps. I've even found myself taking laps around work in my free time to help sprout a new Pikmin. Some features from Pokemon GO! are obviously not seen here, like PVP battling and shiny hunting. There are a few original ideas though that are very interesting. Firstly, Pikmin can be sent on "expeditions" where over a period of time they will go to a place you've discovered and then bring you back an item. Another feature is the flower pedals. Upon feeding your Pikmin nectar you get flower pedals that can be spread around the map for every player in the world to see. These pedals can also be used to sprout larger flowers on the map that may have their own events. It's an exercise app and a video game wrapped into one convenient app. Expand

But, it eventually devolved into this addicting game where I was driving around to wait around and battle giant Pokémon in raids with a group of people. And I was sitting on the coach trading Pokemon with my brother and nephew for ‘lucky’ ones an hour at a time. So, I decided to try Pikmin Bloom! Now I am getting up early to walk long, and fast, spreading flowers across the world. Sure, Pikmin might not be as cool as Pokemon, and the gameplay pretty basic, but I’m getting out and getting exercise! And I don’t have to stare at my phone as much! It’s motivating me to be healthier. I used to be a runner and suffered a bad back injury, and can only walk now, and Pikmin was just the thing I needed. :) it will be interesting to see how the game evolves moving forward and if the game will be able to hold my attention, in a healthy way, and keep these positive changes flowing.
