Pokémon Quest is a funny adventure, without excessive pretensions, with new features from the point of view of the gameplay that fascinate: changing the capture system with a cooking system and recipe preparation is interesting, however slow. Free-to-start is not excessively burdened by purchases. However, it remains an adventure from a mere pastime and nothing more.

Pokémon Quest is a fun little time waster that will satisfy your collect 'em all urges until the real deal launches on Switch in November. This is, for all extents and purposes, a free-to-play mobile game though, so you will have to splash the cash if you want to get the most out of it, but it's far from a money sink. You can get everything you need in a single purchase, or unlock most of it slowly by playing for free. It's one of the most generous freemium systems out there. Overall, it's a great jumping off point for new fans of the series, and the cutesy art style just might win over veterans. Give it a shot.

Pokemon Quest is an easy game to pick up and play, but don't expect anything too deep once you get going.

Pokémon Quest has some neat ideas but none of them is well-executed. It's a free game so... try it. But it's not definitely a great game by any means.

It was originally released on the Switch a couple months ago, and it is finally on iOS, making the game accessible to everyone who doesn't own a Switch (Myself included). I understand why this game got such awful reviews on the Nintendo Switch. It was meant to be a mobile game in the first place, not a full console game, hence the microtransactions and being "free to play". I like that it seems to be less pay-to-win than other phone games, and the graphics are adorable and pretty reminiscent of older Pokémon games, even though it is a 3D environment. I like this game, and from what I played, it is pretty fun and addictive. The gameplay is unlike Pokémon games before it. Your team of up to three Pokémon walk around the level (You don't control their movement) while you direct their attacks when they engage enemies. They will do small punch attacks on their own, but they are not very powerful and only really meant to be used while your main attacks recharge. You can also build a base camp and cook food to attract wild Pokémon, which can be befriended and used in your teams. The game's premium currency, "PM tickets", are actually pretty easy to earn without spending a real life penny. There are quests that you can accomplish (Hence the name), and they are separated by "Main" and "Challenge" categories. Main quests are must be completed to progress through the game, while challenge quests are more like side missions and are optional. I hope they will add more Pokémon to catch, as their are only 20 Pokémon you can catch as of now. They can evolve like in most games in the franchise before it, and can also be upgraded pretty significantly, as they have about 15 slots for upgrade stones. All the Pokémon look fantastically adorable in their blocky forms, and sitting in your base camp watching them do cute stuff is a fun pastime. The customization is done very well and some levels are quite the challenge if you have not assembled your best team. I love this game. I can't really justify the Switch version, but I recommend it to anyone with an iPhone.
They are both free though, so if Switch is your only option, I would take it. Also, performance, at least on my iPhone 7, is very good and it runs at a solid 60 FPS, which is standard for most iPhone games and apps. I can't, however, speak for the Nintendo Switch version as I have not and do not intend to play it. But what are you doing reading my review? Go download it and try this game out!

If you want to have a blocky Pokemon adventure, it is better mobile than on the Switch because it is indeed a mobile game. It brings a Mario-esque feel to it because of the levels mixed with the great realm of RPG grinding makes for another great mobile game by the Pokemon company. The only complaint I have for the game is that it is limited in which one can only have fun every 2-3 hours instead of a constant fun experience such as Pokemon Go and Magikarp Jump. So if you're looking for an endless experience with Gen 1 mons and to catch them all by cooking for them, then by all means download the free game and enjoy its wonder. Expand
