3 Stars of Destiny is a perfect example of what of a classic styled RPG should be like in this day and age as well as exactly what can be achieved with something like RPG Maker when in the hands of talent.
One of my favorite RPG ever, the game that litterally made me discover the genre. It still holds a special place in my heart and still compares well to newer games. A huge adventure and a rarity because so many games nowadays are "short" or "rushed". This one is a polished game that is great everywhere: music, plot, graphics, gameplay.
After playing this game, it now holds a place on my favorite rpg games right next to Skyrim, Legend Of Zelda, and the likes. It not only has a well done story-line but you slowly find your self immersed into this vast world and mesmerized by ingenuity of the creation of the environment. A good rpg game allows the player to fully grasp the personality of the characters and the purpose they have to the story. 3SOF did not only accomplish this but they did it in the simplest of ways from the occasional banter and ridicule from Random to the frightened remarks of his best friend who is a snappy iguana. It kept its fighting mechanics the same with its resemblance to classic rpg games with its turn-by-turn based actions. So what are you waiting for? Get out there and play this game, you plebeians!!! Good Luck and Good Journey!!!
3 Stars od Destiny is a prequel to another Aldorlea game - Laxius Force. It's not as big as its "big brother" but it's still around 30 hours of playtime and lots of quests. Otherwise it's quite similar to Laxius Force - huge dungeons with plenty of secrets to discover, tons of armors and weapons and some really challenging fights. Battle system-wise I would say that it's quite possibly the best RPG Maker game I've played - there are just so many spells, buffs and debuffs and using them correctly is often the only way how to win. The story is - once again - thrilling, there's also some humor and many interesting characters. Plus, after finishing the "main story", it's possible to continue the game and finish things you've missed. Also, there are multiple difficulties and some "goodies" (bonus character and so on) are available for free at the Aldorlea site, so 3SoD can easily last for more than 100 hours. In other words, if you enjoy playing this kind of games you should definitively not miss this one...
This game serves as a prequel to the epic Laxius Force saga and while its plot is not remotely as interesting, the game's gigantic scope quite makes up for it. Set in the world of the Deport, it depics how Random, Luciana and Sara (the 3 "Stars") eventually came to meet each other. The game has good graphics and a very nice soundtrack. Exploration is rewarded wth gazillion of items, always a nice touch in a game of this genre. You can expect about 50 hours of RPG goodness which is more than what most indie RPG offer. I recommend LF rather than this one but it's still a very satisfying introduction to the saga.
