Aliens Blast: The Encounter never makes any pretense toward being anything other than it is, a simple straightforward shoot ‘em up extravaganza, and depending upon whether or not this is your cup of tea will be the major factor in your purchase decision.
You’re stuck in your gun turret, firing off your weapons to an endless amount of aliens, and that’s it! There isn’t anything else to do in the game, but blow up aliens in your turret.
As a $20 retail product, it's a slap in the face. Games like this one make a mockery of Darwin's theories. [May 2004, p.69]
If you're anything like me, you won't be able to play it for any length of time unless you've got something on your mind that you're concentrating on that is far removed from the game. It's perfect for zoning out.
Across every category, Alien Blast defines itself as the very epitome of boredom. The action is dull, repetitive, and in some cases, a bit broken. The game's graphics are pretty much a sad, underdeveloped joke.
Finding [four] people who would sit still for a single session of Alien Blast would serve as a remarkable testament to the power of sedatives. [June 2004, p.80]
While it's slightly fun for maybe ten minutes, the boring gameplay, "pop-up" problems, and lack of variety in levels, AI, or weapons make Alien Blast one of those games that you can laugh about how bad it is.
