Antigraviator pushes you to play aggressively and master the tracks, and if you do that, you’ll get a real kick out of this. It may not be an original concept but Cybernetic Walrus has created quite a polished and intense racer and I look forward to seeing how they support it in the months ahead.
Antigraviator can be pretty challenging for those not familiar with anti-gravity racing games such as F-Zero. There aren’t a lot of upgrades for your vehicle and requiring credits to attempt later leagues can be a bit detrimental as you might have to replay the first league multiple times just to grind credits. The traps are also not really my cup of tea and I could do without those personally. Beyond that though, Antigraviator is a solid game, but it’s not for everyone.
Big fan of Wipeout and gosh I just love the insane speed in Antigraviator. I started playing the demo and got the game to play online with my friends. Highly recommended!
Antigraviator gets a lot of things right. Its responsive handling and evasive manoeuvres help the racing feel particularly fluid. The boosting system and the lack of a top-speed really enhances the exhilaration factor, too. Managing cells for use between boosting and traps also adds a nice strategic layer. However, the trap mechanic and how it's integrated is disappointing.
Antigraviator has a strong foundation for an fast-paced sci-fi racer, but lacks the content and unique footprint to really stand out. It’s hard to recommend it over the likes of RedOut and WipEout, which offer highly similar experiences in much stronger overall packages.
Antigraviator has smooth controls and beautiful locations, but its multiplayer is empty, and the small amount of available content is a real disappointment.
This is not F-Zero, and it's not WipOut, the game is very much like Fast Racing Neo for Nintendo WiiU and Switch in many ways. But the tracks are less creative and less in quantity, with fewer game modes.
The sound has some mixing problems, and the soundtrack is not that cool.
Even though the game amuses those who like this style, it will not be the ideal substitute for Fast Racing Neo nor the gameplay so precise, lack a little detail and more dedication to the courses but has a lot of potential.
This review In Brazilian Portuguse:
I tried to like this game, but I didn't. The powerup system is quite boring and at first confusing (you can activate a trap in the level when a certain icon appears behind your ship), the collision with opponents is poorly done/bugged, there are few ship options, and the Turbo animation wasn't very good (a traditional "a la Redout" is more beautiful and stable). Anyway... I can't recommend it. Redout is a game in the same style, and much better.
If you want an example of how this game is “polish-wise”, the game refused to recognized my progress in the campaign and, whenever I’d finish it, it would just think I quit. I’ve only played the damn thing for about 2 hours and I’m already hard-locked
SummaryAntigraviator is a sleek new take on the anti-gravity racing genre. Use traps, power-ups and boosts to overtake your opponents and dominate the track in single player or multiplayer mode. With no speed limit holding you back, Antigraviator delivers the fastest racing experience of the future.
