A great game, with beautiful graphics and physics too. It's downside is the extremely huge map, it's an assasin's creed game, yet it lacks stealth effectiveness (no stealth kills whenever you want, like past AC games except for Origins) and too many side quests. Plus, no hidden blade.

300+ hours of play, my verdict is 5/10. Here's why:

Setting. Greek mythology, the Peloponnesian War, Ancient Greece. Compared to other games (Valhalla, Origins), this is the most interesting and atmospheric one. The setting is very well chosen, just like your main character.

Plot. The main quest is interesting, but it is far from a masterpiece. 99% of side-quests are to bring, collect or kill. Ubisoft went Ubisoft too far. When you play the game, you notice how lazy the developers were about the plot.
The story fits very badly with the fact that you are a mercenary and a demigod. You are a demigod who is going to collect some flowers or animal skins just because a random unfamiliar grandmother in town asked for it. Great.
DLC "The fate of Atlantis" is mediocre, but the landscapes are very beautiful.
DLC "Legacy of the first blade" is criticised due to the forced romance, but it's not only about that. It had the potential when the player was told that he was mercilessly killing everyone, but that's about it. All the rest is, again, collect, bring, kill.
However, there were a few interesting side quests: Olympic Games, mythical creatures, and others.

Perhaps the only major positive aspect of the game — Combat. Oh Lord, there has been a lot of controversy about the changes from the classic games. For the old-AC-players, accept the changes, ignore the Assassins Creed name if you want to enjoy the game. The battles are very interesting. Be it simple soldiers or mythical gods. The rejection of realism in a series of games is justified in battles. Choose your style or combine several: Warrior, Assassin, Hunter = Direct Attack, Stealth, Archery. All this, together with magical abilities, makes the game interesting.

Character animations: worst thing in the game. Most of the dialogues are accompanied by the same gestures and emotions. I understand that this is costly with so many dialogues, but still, it is repeated in 90% of cases, and it is noticeable. And I am not mentioning the same faces of the characters. There are literally five or six of them, not counting ≈6 unique faces, including main character. MOST of the plot characters are so similar that it gets funny. Considering that I don't complain about this in other games like Fallout 4 or The Witcher 3, this is so terrible for a game of this level.

Dialogue options. Except a few times, they do not affect the plot AT ALL. There is a sense in them only if you want to kill or leave alive secondary useless characters or have an affair with someone.
Did I mention the forced romance?

    Additional good moments:
    Soundtrack 10/10.
The graphics are great. I have already said that the game is beautiful. In the DLC about Atlantis, the game is simply mesmerising.
While the dialogue is the most frustrating part, some of it is well done. Relevant humour and drama. It is a pity that there were very few such moments.

Results: Quite frankly, the game keeps your interest only in getting you to farm some cool gear and improve magic skills. Not worth the money.

I felt that Black Flag was like a last one that actually builds any further story. After Black flag almost none of the further Assasins were changing the game mechanics - all the time the same(small changes), all the time from the start. Moreover the way the story is told in Assasins is a bit clamsy. Repeatable story, stiff dialogs, so I gave up with the series.

Than I have heared that "latest"(Origins, Odyssey) Assasins have changed the gameplay mechanics, so I decided to give it a try. I haven't finished the game yet, but I made like 25 hours in the Odyssey and I can say some words about it.
    Pros:
    - We have skills both for the close-combat weapons(sword, etc.) and a range weapon(bow).
    - We have a big, beautiful world with islands
    - The world is divided into zones ment for specific lvls
    - We have "ships module" from previous games, adjusted to the timeframe. (bows, instead cannons, etc)
    - We have a visual branch of people to kill, and when you kill them, you get tokens for upgrades, it's a nice mechanics.
    - You don't get desynchronized when you kill NPCs, instead your crime meter rises and you're being hunted while still having a chance to survive(and kill the hunters for rewards).
    - RPG mechanics is a breath of fresh air in this game, you have lvls, upgradeable skills, equipable items
    - The combat is quite good, avoids, blocks.
    - We have army vs army mode, where you can support one of the side and for the win you get items

    Cons:
    - The story - as it is another assisn... I cannot unite with my character, I just don't feel it, the character is not a part of something big and every next assasin game is made for no reason, how many times can we go thorugh the game with the same background? If the game wasn't assasin, this could be all different.
    - The lvl scalling - This part pains me the same as the story one - the world lvl is scaled up to your lvl, the zone you're in cannot be lower than you -4 lvls, so basically all you do in the game, all the upgrades you make, you feel all the time like you don't progress at all, as you deal the same dmg oveer and over, the skills dmg doesn't really change much too.
    - Even though we have ships, it doesn't feel that good like in Black Flag. You just sail to another island, because there is a quest... and I don't feel like fighting other ships, because even when you get resources for upgrades, still there is lvl scalling or stronger enemies and you do the same dmg all over again.
    - Even though we have a big world, the world is empty, I mean it's filled with a lot of boring repeating quests like: go-and-kill, open chest, find a piece of paper, clear a cave, that don't bring anything to the story and the bonuses(exp) you get, etc. is getting "lost" due to lvl scalling.
    - The "synchronizing towers", srsly? again? Just to unlock fast-travel? And a flying eagle effect for 10 seconds?
    - You get slots for skills over time. You get 4 per-weapon in the beginning, than you get more. Some may like it, but I didn't feel good with being limited to 4 skills, when I had bought 12, because in that part of the game, I could spare only 1point per skill.
    - Opening menus animations are annoying for me, even though the UI looks nice and intuitive, they take too long (3secs to open),
    - The map tab and quests tab should be somehow combined together, because switching between it, checking where the quest is, going back is just not handy.
    - "Heart" dialogs, we can have sex, but whatever, when you don't feel the character you play.
    - Items lvls - each item has its lvl, which can be increased to the lvl of your character, no matter what rarity type is the weapon, so if you are stubborn you can loot one piece of crap and upgrade it through the whole game - the dmg doesn't count anyway, due to scalling.
    - Even though the combat system is quite good, the opponents moves are repeatable, the enemies are repeatable, which just don't fit to such big world.

To summarize, the game is playable. It is even exiting for the first 20 hours, than you get border or repeating things and a lack of progressing. Dear Ubisoft if you read it, please close the series, call your game something else, change the background, maybe at least I won't be so negative about starting another piece of tapeworm and having the stiff story I can't relate to, because I'll have another game in the series with completly different characters. (Unlike AC II) Also please decrease the world size, or at least please fill it with more valuable unqiue content, like quests with unique stories - you can take an example from The Witcher 3.

It's a 6 for me. Big, pretty, open world with very repetitive side stuff that's mandatory so you don't get level gated from the main story. Interesting story with some lame dialogue. I've seen some reviewers stating this game is a rival to The Witcher 3 which just proves they never played it. The excess of microtransactions in a single player game also get the score down for me.

They need to rethink some of the approaches to game making. Specifically, in the case of this game and other games like this one, I would like to make a couple of points. This game does not quite work for the following reasons: First, there's a bit too much grind, and you cannot escape the ugly feeling of doing too much of the same. Some grind in a game is quite ok, but too much can ruin the game. Second, this is poor implementation of RPG+Open World combination. The game forces you to follow the linear path of the story in an Open World game?!!? How so? Well, if you go astray from the main story line and try to explore the game world away from the main story you cannot, because literally every creature you encounter is too powerful for you. You just end up running away from everyone and everything, in stead of exploring or doing quests. A minute ago, in the main story, I defeated powerful warriors and generals, and the next minute I run from ordinary wolves, boars, and peasants, only because I am in the area I'm not supposed to be in yet, and everyone is couple of levels or more above me. The game doesn't even show you the level of creatures with too high a level. There's only a red skull indicator telling you not to even bother fighting. That's ridiculous, and it defeats the whole Open World concept. RPG could work in the Open World concept, but a few tweaks are necessary. Ordinary creatures and characters everywhere should be less powerful than the game protagonist from the beginning. Only major bosses through the story line should be allowed to be significantly more powerful, and I have to level up or find better gear to be able to defeat them. There could be other tough characters, but I should be able to defeat them right from the beginning, albeit with more difficulty. Next, I don't care how tough an opponent is, three direct hits with a sword or spear should end the fight. If you want to create grind and make certain fights last longer, make blocking or dodging more frequent than hits, depending on the level of opponent of course. I feel silly banging on an opponent for 3 or 4 minutes, with every swipe a direct hit, and my enemy refuses to die because he's level 25, and I am level 22. Next, if you want to make certain areas more difficult than other you can populate it with more enemies, who are more vigilant, and with a few characters who are more powerful than average, but I should still be able to defeat them. Third, make quests more versatile, with variety of interesting tasks. This requires imagination and diligence. Game developers must not be complacent and just keep pumping out the same stuff all the time. They have to get better all the time. Fourth, and this is closely related to the previous point, if you're making a true RPG game that includes dialogues with choices, then you have to make dialogue interesting, engaging, and meaningful. This is a very difficult thing to do, and few RPGs ever have actually succeeded in this. Dialogues are usually tedious, or even dumb, and a waste of time. But games should progress towards true AI. I can't wait for the day when we'll see games writing themselves as you play them, depending on the way you play them, where no one knows what comes next, and how they might end. We're a long way from that, I know, but it could be better than this. Dialogues and choices seem to be of no consequence at all, except for a few key choices, and the level of freedom is actually the same as in the games from 10 or 15 years ago. Expand

    4. Life at sea and naval combat is as enjoyable as ever, but a little simplistic compared to Black Flag.
    5. Massive amount of content including new additions such as epic battles and randomly generated missions.
    6. Duelling mercenaries, heroes and other special characters is a joy.
    7. The gameworld seems to intelligently level up along with the player character. which means the player never really gets too overpoweredm. You can still find weak / underleveled enemies, but never more than two levels below you.

    Cons -
    1. Performance is very disappointing, especially for game that does not really have that much of graphical fidelity. Edit : I can see a few bots here claiming they can run @60FPS on "ultra" in a potato PC. Know that they are flat out lying (notice none of them are bothered to post screens from the in-game benchark, as that would expose their lies). You can check hundreds of benchmarks from gaming media or gamers on youtube.
    2. Evidently, this is the main substance of the review :). The grind is real, and a deal breaker. Rewards are too meagre, and resource costs are too high. It is completely unbalanced. You will never have enough resources to upgrade your legendary equipment up to your level, or engravings or your ship, unless you waste dozens of hours scouring the land for those '+2 iron' ores and '+3 soft leather' deers. Normally this could be addressed easily by adding an in-game slider that multiplies the resources earned or reduces the costs so that players can adjust the level of grind to their liking. But nope. Why do that, when you can charge real money for in-game resources? It is a bloody shame. It turns a 9 to a 5. I cannot encourage this attitude from developers. So, I am forced to leave a negative review for a game that I am otherwise enjoying.

If you can overlook that last point by having nothing else to do or paying real money for resources, buy this. It is a great game otherwise.

60% ("Travelling") Running or riding on your spastic horse trying to find senseless amounts of collectibles
    20% clearing camps/forts
    10% Dialogue / cutscenes
    5% Dying to random stuff

    - different ways to create your "own" story
    - you can have some happy hours with characters

    Negative :

    - Will get repetitive very shortly (clear forts, caves or camps / kill alpha animals / find artifacts / kill person x, destroy y or collect z)
    - Levelcapped character / always stronger enemies (some levels too low, you literally deal no damage - regardless of your gear progression you mostly cannot oneshot stealth kill any high level enemy)
    - Way too much collectibles & annoying "puzzles" (graves / caves)
    - no indicator about how much is left to do until you finish one region
    - Way too less fast travel points.
    - unfinished Engine (still as bad as in origins)
    - fck the ship travelling, ship fighthing & ships in general
    - insane reactions of enemy AI, spotting through walls / hear through floors / see you even if you are behind them
    - you have to unlock with the ingame shop that some things are shown on the map (legendary chests, etc..)

It's worth a good 30 bucks but that's about it. I just bought it because i don't have time to wait atleast 3 months to get this cracked.

Expand

Great world, nice story, good graphic, nice rpg elements.
But not a "Assassin's Creed" game. The control for keyboard is bad and the quests are unbalanced and lame.

Better than Origins that came with a very linear constructed story, tied to the game progression mechanics.

Still totally bloated though with bad, boring content to turn a 25 hour game into a 140 hour game in order to give the player more time to pay for microtransactions. It’s an exhausting experience.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Before i get started with reviewing this game i would like to say that i am a rpg-fan and also i also would consider myself a freak in history.
This was the main reason why i bought the game (i did not pre-order) a few days after it released

    Story:
The story starts fresh and at the start does a great job of setting things up (there are certain things you have to discover while playing).

The problem is after the good prolog and the first steps in the mainstory, it goes back to "kill all those people from this list" and "Make some things to find out where these people are to kill them"
There are some good twist in the game (although some are predictable).

The setpieces (e.g olympic games, fight for power in Athen etc.) would be there but they did not use their potential.

    Gameplay:
First i want to talk about the gameplay or the changes to the last AC. And i have to say there is not that big of a change to Origins, when it comes to land-battles and land-combat.
Sea-combat made a comeback but in a much more simplistic form that in AC IV

Overall the gameplay is ok even it will start to repeat itself after some hours.

    RPG:
The RPG-element of the game is building your character. This mean you can pick Skills out of a skilltree and equipt diffrent weapons and armor
The whoie thing splits into 3 styles of playing: You can play as Hunter (which focuses on long-range), as a warrior (short-range combat [NOT STEALTH]) and Assassin (Stealth and stealthkilling)
You have the free choice how you build yourself and even mixed characters are possible

The system has a wide range of possible mixes and builds. Although it has to be said that there are certain builds and skills that are way to powerful (as a warrior with legendary gear you are immortal).

    World:

Again they made a open world which is f-ing huge. Each map-piece has a different style and locks amazing.
All in all the game looks amazing. There are some beautiful snapshots in this game

Things to do beside the story:
There are tons of things to do beside the story: Sidequests are everywhere. You can participate in the war, collect legendary gear, kill cultmembers etc.

The problem here is (and that is why i give this game only a "ok-ish" grade) is that not much of that is worth a while. In fact after 50% of the game i started to rush through it because i outleveled everything and everything felt like i had done it at least once before.
The map is overpacked with things to do and it is tiring after some hours

    Conclusion:

All in all it is not a bad game. But the story or lack of a really good story and the repetition of content stops it for being a great game.
If they would have taken away 20 - 30 hours of content outside of the story and put the effort in the story it would be a very pleasant experience

I love the assassin Creed series of games, the game not only increases the size of the world, but also the prophobot of this world, but this world is filled with monotonous quests that are not remembered. If you want to dive into the atmosphere of ancient Greece, this game is for you, in this game you can kill a lot of time .

This game is bad. LIke it has some interesting side quests and story at times and combat can be a lot of fun. But theres so much unnecessary stuff. Theres millions of fetch quests just to prolong the game time and by the end of the game I begged the God to make it end finally. Very dissapointed with this.

It's not good, but it is not bad. Progresion system is really grind-based. Boss is 1 level higher then you? You will have to either grind for another 10 hrs or fight him for 30 min. Story is great but the main quest ( spoiler!!!! ) about hunting down cult members is there just to make sure that you will spend at leat 100 hrs finding and fighting them.

    ---> Pontos positivos:
    - gráficos do ambiente
    - fidelidade ao mundo grego antigo. Embora seja uma obra de ficção, o jogo se esforçou em apresentar a cultura grega o mais próximo possível do que realmente foi (baseado nos registros que foram preservados)

    ---> Pontos negativos:
    - Voice acting irregular. Em alguns momentos a "dublagem" era realista e passava emoção aos personagens, em outros momentos não representava adequadamente as emoções que o personagem deveria apresentar. Ex: personagem deveria estar puto e falava com uma voz neutra
    - Censura incoerente. O jogo é classificado como "mature", ou seja, 17 anos ou mais, porém em alguns pontos trata o jogador como uma criança de 10 anos. Ex: Protagonista eviscera um NPC adversário enfiando a lança na bunda e a corta até o pescoço (ok, mature game); por outro lado, não tem uma cena de nudez no jogo inteiro, o que é incoerente com o período retratado e com a faixa etária. Nem no puteiro, as pessoas ficam peladas.
    - Romance. Os romances no jogo são hiper genéricos e não captam um desenvolvimento emocional do protagonista. Todos os romances seguem a fórmula: encontra o NPC, faz um trabalho/favor para ele, recebe em "sexo". PS: Isso se pode chamar de sexo, pq a cena é cortada e volta ao gameplay normal.
    - Leveling. Se você não conseguem progredir na main story, se não fizer as sidequests. A diferença de nível é um problema no jogo, assim se o mapa está no nível 30, vc tem que estar no nível 29 pelo menos. E, chega um determinado momento do jogo que você tem que fazer sidequests apenas para "upar" de nível para seguir na main quest. Patético, quer fazer o player comprar "burst" de XP.
    - Sidequests são rasas e repetitivas
    - Opções de diálogo. Muitas opções são: ou falsas (independente do que você escolher, o resultado será o mesmo); ou são indiferentes (se você mata ou poupa os inimigos, nada muda)

The controls are ok on PC and you can remap the keys which is a blessing.
Story is ok but I still have a lot to do.
Gameplay is very good.. so why only 5 score?

This is a so called "AAA, full price game", a single player game with micro transactions in it (!!!). And this is straight ZERO points from me. The only reason I gave it 5 is because I got it at a lower price and I actually like it.

This one.. I've put 70 hours into it, and beat it. It was loads of fun.

A fun story set in ancient greece, this entry rightly jettison's most of the stupid animus stuff from the previous games (I spent maybe 5-10 minutes not running around as the ancient greek hero).

Oh you're still jumping around roofs, hiding in bushes, and assassinating guys in forts... but the combat is actually fun for a change. You CAN fight people outside of stealth battles and win. It flows quite nicely and on nightmare can actually be challenging at points (I only had to set my difficulty back to normal at a few different points in the game over 70 hours).

Some people mention a grind and online store, but I never really saw any of it. Doing the gold quests (the non-generic, non-procedural generated ones that have actual unique content) will get you all the xp you need to progress to the next area.

You play as a greek mercenary and part-time demigod (that part comes later) who's trying to reconnect with her families. How you do that is up to you. On the way you find out that the dastardly templ-I mean cultists are manipulating everything in the background, in fact, they're entirely responsible for the current war going on. It's up to you to stop them while running around killing bandits and boars and upgrading your ship.

A few things keep this game from being truly great. First off, the optimization - it's terrible. This game looks slightly worse than the witcher 3, and runs twice as badly on my PC. Ubisoft needs to optimize their games better, this was simply unacceptable. Secondly, the end of the story is complete trash. Without spoiling anything, a character manages to live for 1,000+ years only to kill themselves after 'passing over the mantle' of things... what, they couldn't spare an hour or two to expound a little bit on what they did and what the character they were passing over things to should do? There was no rush in this scenario, it was simply mind boggling. Thirdly, the animus crap. Why is it necessary? You can include the scifi aliens without the animus nonsense. Maybe there's something in the previous games that explains it, but it's a garbage way to tell a story and I will never play those games - because they are badly. Lastly, what I said previously ties into some of the greeks being black for literally no reason. I imagine it was put in there for the same reason the game tells you there was a 'multicultural team' working on AC odyssey before you even get to the start menu - to pointless virtue signal over the fact that the team is composed of leftist mental retards (and, as a quick google search shows - 99% of them are white guys, very diverse, much multikult). This didn't detract from gameplay (well the black "greeks" did) but made me cringe and was retarded.

You'll meet a number of great people from that time period such as Sokrates, Plato, Perikles, Alkibiades, Brasidas.
On top of that historical locations, and occasionally some background on the mythology surrounding them.

Gameplay is good - though not what I would expect from an AC game.
Not even the climbing works properly... THE CLIMBING

The other beef I have with the gameplay is the level system and the whole idea of having to constantly play around with your gear.
Like - you could after every encounter go ahead and update your gear with the newest and best items. And the UI constantly reminds you that there's new items for each and every slot so it's a constant notification fest. Like... go away please.

So, what you are actually supposed to do however is building legendary gear sets and upgrading them, and switching between those sets based on what you want to do.
And if you don't do that and have a special assassin set, you won't kill even the lowest of soldiers with stealth attacks.
    This bad.

Upgrading items is very pricey though - so you'll end up running around with gear that is 10 levels lower because you can't afford to upgrade it. I'm not 100% sure but I bet you can insert coins to buy items... otherwise I see no reason for this design.
    This bad.

And then there's the issue that you can't possibly, due to the level system, just play through the main story and be done with it. You absolutely have to do side quests in order to level up.
    This bad.

All in all however, it's a good game - I really liked Cassandra and the other major NPCs.
Really funny side quests - totally worth.
But - this is not an AC game.

Odyssey continues a revolting Ubisoft trend of actively designing gameplay mechanics that hinder progression and make the game feel artificial and boring in order to incentivize micro-transactions. What, you thought they went the RPG route in the hopes of giving their stagnating franchise a much needed new breath? Please.

Combat feels floaty and disconnected from the characters, less like they're swinging around steel weapons and more like they're play-fighting with styrofoam toys. Every enemy has an inordinately large health bar and staggers very little from your attacks, so interruptions are very recurrent and completely break the flow of the fight. Your best option to avoid said nuisances is (surprise surprise!) to level up faster in order to unlock absurd magical powers and be able to equip better gear, and what better way of doing that than to hand Ubisoft even more money?

On the same vein, level disparities between the player and the enemies lead to ridiculous situations such as enemies surviving being stabbed multiple times through the neck by magical weapons. If you're stubborn (and let's be honest here, also slightly psychotic), you can still fight adversaries several levels above your station by hiding in the tall grass and shooting arrows at their face until they die - it's just gonna take half an hour - A.I. isn't smart enough to find you nor run away, so it's doable.

Don't even get me started on the plot. Several dialogue options and phrases to end conversations are copy-pasted, making the stilted conversations feel even more robotic and emotionless than they already did. Writers couldn't figure out how to tie the plot threads together, so they just didn't, instead leaving the core narratives literally separated into their own progressions and totally incapable of influencing the player or the world at large. Every single conclusion feels detached from your character choices, and the best thing you can hope for is to get one lukewarm cutscene at the end.

I could spend literal hours complaining about how little your choices matter in this story, but the game does a pretty good job at that with the Spartan-Athenian battles. You can join one side of the battle, conquer the territory for one the factions, then immediately start to sabotage the victors to trigger a new battle and flip the board again, this time siding with the other guys. Repeat ad-nauseum, like you're Sisyphus himself and this is your personal hell - reliving the same battlefield again and again, switching sides on a whim for identical gear that just happens to give 2% extra fire damage. Neither option matters. Your notoriety doesn't matter. Your wishy-washy allegiance is never questioned or meaningful. You could single-handedly conquer all of Greece in the name of Sparta and the game wouldn't care, acknowledge it or let that affect the plot in any meaningful way. There is no point to your soulless existence.

At least the graphics are nice tho.

The whole premise of AC Odyssey is to figure out the mystery story wise and from a gameplay wise to get stronger by getting better gear and abilities. If they wanna make a game about a Greek story why just don't they make a brand-new game? It could be about the 300 Spartans against the Persians, but NOOO, they just want to milk their cash cow, Assasins Creed until it is completely dead.

That said, the game gameplay isn't bad, the stealth is just like any other generic AC, which is a good system. The combat is the most different part, now it has an RPG level system and your character has special skills with cooldown, like a fast thrust that deals massive damage to everyone on the way or a single target skill that thrown down an enemy.

The open world is immense but empty. The only thing you have to do is just the same Ubisoft useless collectible and get some new weapons and armors for no purpose at all. The sidequests style is a copy of The Witcher 3.

I did them at first but stopped halfway. I also stopped all the taking sides of an army, because it has no real impact on the story. The fighting is the same, got better with the arc. The naval fight are still fun. The water effects, the quality of the textures on high is great. The draw distance isn't always well adjusted and some lighting's takes too much time to render. The sounds are fine especially when the sea is near or involved. The animation can be robotic at times but in general it's not too distracting. The music wasn't as strong then Origin. I did love the boat singing, especially with a female crew. I recommend you play this game on EASY. You need to be one or two levels over your enemies to enjoy this. Even then, it will take around 65 to 80 hours to finish the main quest with most of the side ! quests. There is another ending after the first one. There was less modern content and that was a deception in the end. I give the game a 77%. A big RPG with too much useless stuff but there is some things related to the birth of democracy, philosophy, medicine in the Greek-Spartan worlds. Expand

Something else that i dont like at all is seeing cities so close together, its a huge world but to me it feels like there is too much in it and therefore everything feels really close. Historically speaking Athenes had a 10 km long fortification that connected the port of Pireus, but in this game is all together. Thats why i prefer to fewer locations with realistic distances instead of this game´s world

Large part in the game, you need to hit your enemies hundred times, while they just 2-3 hit you and even dodge doesn't work, if you attack at the same time. Even if you set game to easy, it will take long time to kill your opponents. And if you set game on hard, it won't make it hard: it will make some parts take 30 minutes, or nearly impossible and fights will just take longer time like 15 minutes... Even with legendary items, you don't deal that much damage and you have to grind for best builds, which you won't get early on and in mid game, so low dmg output is still problem for most of the game and you have to find many tablets scattered across whole map, which is basically running simulator and grind for resources... Main story was enjoyable and there were a lot of interesting side quests, although most of the were boring and repetitive. And graphic is beautiful and a lot of locations to explore. There are some interesting places, feels same for the most part, especially when you have to run around same locations a lot! Expand

They are not on the level of mass effect andromeda but sometimes they are just off. They should have went with one protagonist instead of 2 and actually care about good animations. The main story is separated so you can ignore the abstergo story if you want. I think the story overall is acceptable. Story quests are most of the time really good, but sidequests ... man. There are about 5 out of 100 sidequests that are actually fun doing. The rest of them are fetch and kill quests. They tried to sell us this big battles between Athens and Sparta, which are completely boring after the first time. You start the fight, you kill a few enemys, congratulations you get loot. Which brings me the biggest problem: The combat
Holy fk, has anybody ever tested the combat?
Here is what to do at higher level: Go in your inventory and just dismantle all your melee weapons. Compared to the bow they do ZERO damage. After i realized that, the only thing i did was serving headshots to anybody. Even the last boss is dead in three shots which is just pathetic.
    Next thing: Bounty Hunters
Even if you kill bad people there is a bounty on your head. Bounty hunters have 1000% more health (at least it feels like it) and they always show up when you are in battle, wherever you are. Fighting against them is a chore and i think they shouldn exist. The whole rpg damage just sucks in general. Imaging a master assassin or master .. spartan sneaking up on you while you are asleep, stabbing you in the back but instead of dying you stand up and kick his ass. Thats exactly whats happening if your assassin damage is too low. Just sad,
All I can say at the end is, i hope the next one will be better ... but arent we saying that thing now for the tenth time?

Sneak attacks which deal like 50% of damage (with PAID weapons from DLC)? Really? What a scam!

The plot is as usual. Some memories of some ancestor who was or was not participating in some events of the deep past.
This time, somehow, all memories are revolving around too-manly women and too-sweet-faced men.
Oh, and add 'LGBT members made this game' loading screen you'll see each time you'll start it. I'm absolutely okay with LGBT and I do know some cool people of this kind but PLEASE STOP STICKING IT INTO MY FACE! It's immoral!
I demand protecting my rights to remain straight! Game's store page didn't mentioned excessive propaganda of this kind!
(and it's not so legal in our lands but who cares until it targets our lands' president anyway. . .)

Visuals... are pretty neat. Visuals _are_ what's selling this game. As cool as it could be. Thanks Ubisoft, I guess.

Sound... Game's version for my language cheered me up with mistranslated expressions, Greek words sticked into speech just for some fleur, lack of emotional expression and absolutely inappropriate actor vs character choices.

Overall, not if I would regret making this purchase (10$ for Ultimate edition? Passable!) but I expected to get complete game.

As a result, the game features a beautiful and enormous world with many adventures. I liked the main quest lines of Odyssey a lot; the creators have invested in character building and meaningful plot lines. The main plots take you all over Greece, but due to the enormity of the map this doesn't do justice to everything there is to see. As a result, the creators have filled the map with many little spots like bandit camps, fortresses, animal caves and more; they also created many side quests. I personally found all these spots and side quests not to be as interesting as the main plot, because they all look alike thereby feeling repetitive and they miss the depth of the main plot lines.
Conclusion: a beautiful and enormous game with a nice plot, but maybe the world is to big to be able to fully enjoy it. After you completed the main story lines the rest might not seems as interesting or repetitive. Depending on your play style, that might be the moment to enjoy more of what you already experienced or to uninstall the game (as I chose to do).

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

    Nota Geral: 5/10

    Cons :
    - The story, it's really started really well, how complicated and somehow make me hyped up to continue, but kind of dissappointing in the end because how dull it is (especially the main odyssey story), the cutscene has really a good potential but end up boring and basic.

The level system serves as a series of poorly made gates to keep you from progressing through the map too early. Later, the poor level scaling somewhat brakes the game in that it completely neuters the assassin build. There's zero scaling in AI (once you learn to play the game in the first three to five hours, there's no new or novel strategies you'll have to learn or apply). Instead their idea of level scaling is to slowly neuter the assassin's build, completely breaking it around the mid 40's. Enemies you should be able to one shot, them being equal or of a lesser level, now will become unbeatable even with the guaranteed critical ability the game provides you with. Also, the entire map scales to your level, so when you reach level 50, so does everything else on the map. I'm finding the assassin's build at this point is almost completely worthless. Instead of being an overpowered god of death endgame, I find my character has been turned into a eunuch. After each failed assassination attempt, I'm now being forced to play the new, under baked combat system that I absolutely loath. Where the old Assassin's Creed combat system was centered around parry-then-kill, the new design is to have you occasionally dodge or parry, then to have you mash light or heavy attack for what feels like a hundred times before an enemy falls. Not only are the kills unfulfilling, but their tedious and stressful to get. Where Prince of Persia had a unique and fun combo system, this combat system is the exact opposite: un-creative, tedious, and timing agnostic. It's mash to win. Late game, dodging and parrying becomes optional since you can run around the map until your heal ability is back up.

The story was compelling at first, but it became lost under a deluge of unmemorable side quests. After about 20 hours, I lost all interest in what any of the NPC's were saying and my impatience spilled over into the main story line. I've just made it out of Sparta with a very important character in tow, who was under threat, and I don't really know what's going on anymore. I got so sick of the meaningless dialog, I ended up skipping critical parts of the story, and now I'm just aimlessly wandering around clearing encampments. My interest to complete this title is quickly drying up as I don't see my play style being rewarded (in fact the opposite is happening) the novelty of the gameplay is wearing off, and I've completely lost the thread of the plot. The "one open world, one grand arching plot" was kind of a mistake. The Persian side-quest story line was perfect. It was self-contained, it was the right length, and it was compelling. I would've preferred 3-5 sequential or self-contained "main" quest lines in that style, than one that dragged on for too long and then fizzled.

Whole Ancient Greek was breathtaking, and gameplay was interesting enough. However, the world is empty. Sidequests are quite boring, and main story is a disappointment.

Its a good game but very repetitive, the world is gigantic and there's so much things to do but the lack of variation makes the game longer than it should be. Graphics are really good and the rpg system is cool.

First I'll start with what I liked: General gameplay is decent, althogh the freerunning has been dumbed down far too much in my opinion. The formla has changed from earlier games, now revolving around activated abilities rather than the classic counter attack focused gameplay. Ancient Greece setting is jaw dropping. I loved it. The fashion. Probably better than any other game so far in my personal opinion, yo can mix and match different pieces of ancient armor, robes and clothing. My personal favorite is a sculpted bronze breastplate with white assassin's hood, ancient greek chic for the win.

    What I didn't like:
The liberal use of fantastical elements. This is no longer a sci fi ancient aliens story, this is pure fantasy, that ALSO has sci fi ancient aliens, alongside pegasi, minotaurs and other fantastic monsters. I'm not a huge fan.
The story. It seems we've lost track of what the story of the series was originally about. But dfortuantely the overwhelming majority of the story takes place in ancient times in this sequel, with only a small amount of the present being involved, so this is mitigated somewhat.
AND... the grind. Oh yes, this is by far the worst part of the game. Between every story mission yo will have to kill roughly 7 spartan general, 14 athenian liuetenants, 32 spartan soldiers, 126 athenian archers, 427 spartan triremes, 9,276 athenien biremes and about 47,326 mercenaries. The grins in this game is unreal, and due to the way level scaling works can't really be avoided, as enemies only a few levels above you are near impossible to kill. It's obvios why the grind was included, as there is an XP boost for sale in the store. That is LOW and the publishers should be ashamed of themselves. Completey inexcusable and if yo don't buy into their little scam then it completely ruins the experience of the game. For me, the grind was honestly enough to drop the game halfway through. A shame honestly.

As an RPG/Open Adventure/Stealth Game, it's pretty good. As an Assassin's Creed game, it isn't though. There are however 2 kinds of people who review this game. Those who hate this game because it doesn't really feel like an Assassin's Creed game, and those who can see past that.
It's like Saints Row 4 compared to Saint's Row 2. It's a good game, it just doesn't feel like Saints Row.

AC Creed Odyssey is similar to AC Origins:
    _great graphics
    _interesting crafting system
    _nice setting (Greece)
But the game is not good in storytelling and contains very repetitive battles and tasks.

This part of the Ubisoft games in undoubtable, and even those with basal scores would confirm it. The problem, however, underlines deep in the whole concept of AC games. The whole stealth, mysterious concept, brotherhood, unity and uniform vision are what made previous parts iconic. Even in Origins, those concepts were far deeper and obvious. This part, however, didn't present any of those things. We see a dark a shadow of what the previous parts were built on. A mercenary that wants to unite with his family and destroy the Cult that is a spoon of tar in that goal, a a hurdle. The plot was, for some moments, pretty captivating, but can we actually call it an AC game?Definetly not. Other than that, the game is extremely long and slow. Some of the missions are typically single-minded and boring, and the plot afterwards gets weird and tedious. The open world, however, as i said previously, is amazing. When Origins first was introduced, it was a breath of fresh air for the series, but the whole Ancient Egypt things didn't seem quite intriguing and sapid. The Ancient Greece is its opposite. Ubisoft did nail to present fascinating depiction of Ancient Greece. Athens, Corinthia..Everything was compelling. Gameplay was pretty average. With new tricks and aptitudes, it did make it less boring and annoying than in Origins, but still far from God of War or Spiderman. Overall, my opinion about this game is pretty mixed and neutral. If you enjoy graphics and open world, i would definetly reccomend it. But if you don't pay much attention to details, then this game is not for you Expand

While AC: Origins was packed with interesting stories, Odyssey is a generic ’Ubisoft sandbox’ in the worst sense, with hundreds of the same-looking places, dozens of ”kill-fetch” quests and almost zero motivation to grind further.
