The game is absolutely fun. These idiots that say it is forcing to use xp boosts should know that I'm one of those that didn't use a single xp boost and finished the game with full exploration. It didn't need any boost. When I reached my max level still there were bunch of locations to explore and gain more xp. Telling the story of apples and the first Templars was perfect. Loved the game man.

After many years of dissapointing Assassin's Creed games Ubisoft knocks it out of the park with the brilliant Assassin's Creed Origins and Odyssey and the user score of Metacritic tanks. I don;'t normally like to give games a 10, but with the laughable amount of 0 scores with the risk of being a bit hypocritical I give this title a 10. If the reviews would have been more reasonable I would still rate this game a solid 9.

    The good:
    - The improved parkour mechanics (you rarely get stuck of which was a bit of an issue in the past)
    - The Story (don't get fooled by some of the reviews, the writing is quite funny and smart)
    - The voice acting; especially Kassandra. The actor of Alexios did a good job too.
    - The combat (yes, it's different and a breakaway from the old combat style, but it's fun!)
    - The Huge Map.
    - The huge amount of content.
    - Ship combat. Best ship combat of the series.

    The bad:
    - A few minor bugs (very few though)
    - Fire tanks the FPS quite hard which makes speccing into fire damange not worth it (poison ftw).
    - Stupido was a bit..... stupido (*wink* very funny questine)
    - The game has got an ending. I wish it didn't.

Well done Ubisoft! Assassin's Creed Odyssey is a masterpiece and you should be proud!

    2. It's a re-skin of Origins. I played about 60 hours of Origins and Odyssey is very different than Origins. This is just absurd hyperbole.

    3. Micro-transactions. Yes they are in the game, yes they should not be in the game and it makes me angry as well. That being said I never once felt the need to buy them to enjoy the game. The game is a 100% completed game and is fully enjoyable without purchasing anything extra. You more than enough get your moneys worth.

    4. Poor PC optimization. I run this on a PC and the game runs butter smooth on everything maxed out. People are angry because they can't run it in 4K butter smooth, but guess what, no modern open world game can run at 4K with everything maxed out at a perfectly stable 60 FPS. There is absolutely nothing wrong with optimization.

    5. The story and or writing aren't good. This is rather subjective but I think that anyone would enjoy the main story. It's a good story, better than Origins and on par with the other AC games if not better.

Anyway, after you finish RDR 2 you should totally play this game. It's really good and I have enjoyed every moment of it. Don't miss out on something great because a bunch of haters that don't know what they are talking about. How many of these haters put in 100 hours into this game? Don't trust them, trust me. I actually played the entire game.

This game isn't the same as the older Assassin's Creed games and it feels different to play it, but I wouldn't say it's a bad thing. If you don't expect the game to be a 1:1 copy of older AC games, you will really enjoy this one. It happened to be one of my most favourite games of all time.

    Pros :

    - It has an amazing story. From start, it really stucks you to game.
    - Parrying sistem is awesome. Origins shield sistem was absolute sh*t.
    - Open world is fantastic. In every island, there is a side-quest chain waits for you.
    - Voice actors did a perfect job. Both characters are awesome.
    - Fort attacking is the most enjoyable thing in the game. You can be a strategist, assassin or warrior.
    - DLCs are perfect. The Fate of Atlantis one is really perfect. Stucks you to game until you finish it.
    - New Game+ is very efficient. I played the game again because of it. And even playing it again, it still feels good.
    - You can change the auto level scaling to light if you want to play only the story. Stop saying that.

    Cons :
    - There is not much "different" quests. Always go and stab some people.
    - You can't decide will you be Athenian or Spartan. I mean, there is sometimes a street war between them, you wanna join the fight but you can attack them both, or they'll attack you. ( Naval fights are more ridiculous )
    - It says " RPG " but in the DLCs, every answer gets you to same ending.
    - Horse riding is not very good, it's sh*t.
    - There's no assassin in this game, only assassin is Darius :D I mean it's called "Assassin's Creed" isn't it?

    Summary :

This game is 60$. It costs 0.5dollar / hour for me. Guys stop being a dickhead, Ubisoft made it
perfect. But yeah some more details to game would be perfect. I reeaaally wanted to wear a spartan helmet and get into a spartan fort. Or a little bit more different quests.

I only played the game this year (2021), and it's easily the most enjoyable one this year so far. There is nothing really revolutionary about it. In fact, it looks like it has been inspired by successful aspects of quite a few other games: it's improving on a massive eye-candy open world of its predecessor (AC Origins), features stealth-clearing forts and camps like in the Far Cry series, cut-scenes and witty dialogs like we've seen in Witcher 3, combat mechanics and animation that resembles of Middle Earth: Shadow of War. Nevertheless, it's a masterpiece in its own right and so much fun to play - which is what counts in the end.

Best Ocean of any AC game, full of stuff to explore. Now this game has three main problems. Story is kind of weak, you have to grind way too much to progress in story and you can't one-hit assassinate enemies. Now it still has nice enough architecture, huge statues, most of islands of Greece. Ocean is really cool, sunken shipwrecks, sunken temples, sharks, whales etc. So basically get got many things right with this game, but also tons of stuff was just bad or weak. Thankfully most of these things were fixed in Valhalla, but Valhalla is not perfect either. Basically there's still room for Ubisoft to improve. Overall Odyssey is solid, but flawed game. But here's the thing, i'm an Assassin's Creed fan and i need to have one-hit assassinations. Now maybe someone who doesn't care about this, might enjoy this game more. But i still want to give it relatively positive score, because after all it's still part of one of the greatest video game series of all time and it obviously got tons of hate from people who hate AC games in general, so even just for that i have to give it higher score. And i'm one of these players who can literally spend hours underwater exploring ocean. I can't even count how long i spent underwater in GTA 5 for example and with Odyssey they made ocean really interesting. This was huge step-back in Valhalla, because for some weird reason Valhalla ocean is kind of empty. So bonus points for good ocean design in Odyssey. Expand

The pathetic excuse for gamers these days is unbelievable, millennials have no idea what a gaming experience is about, we grew up with 2D side scrollers and they were classed as A rated games and the big things about them were finding the glitches and mistakes from the developers which added more fun to the games.

Games today have huge open worlds to explore and i suppose the big problem with all new gamers is the aspect you may also learn something along the way, you seem to expect the game to feed you in a way that i would like to see you do better, go back to the first AC title then come back to this one to see the massive changes the franchise has made, to hate on a business for doing what they do which is MAKE GAMES is so stupid it boggles the mind you have no idea the man hours that go into making something that is designed for fun.

Assassin's Creed Odyssey is easily one of the best games of 2018 without a shadow of a doubt, it has great aspects from Origins and then added more and set in a beautiful recreation of Greece, and if anyone listened during history at school or educated themselves has such a captivating focus on the history of Greece, from the Diplomacy of Athens created by Pericles to the fall of the city due to the plague and tainted grain from Sparta.

The game also lets you explore rather than spoon feed you all the missions (it's how i found the Minotaur by pure fluke) which makes it a fantastic adventure.

The Helix credits... i have bought non and guess what you can still enjoy the game, these things are put there for players who like to add something to their games but not at any point does it feel forced or pushed on you to do, and the grind is not bad at all, if anything its lesser than Witcher 3 in that respect.

Unless you're playing on a potato this game plays flawlessly i play on
    Ryzen 5 1600 (3.8ghz)
    AMD rx470 8gb
    16gb RAM (3000mhz)
    Windows 10 Pro
even running the game on an old HDD
it plays fine on my 4K monitor with no tearing stuttering or fps drops, i think the worst i had was 40fps which is still non noticeable during game play this generation needs to get over that more fps = better as your eye can't see or notice anything higher than 60fps in most cases as the majority of monitors refresh at 60hz which is 60 fps tops a game may tell you you're getting 120+fps but you monitor isn't refreshing at anything higher than it's designed to, even movies play around 27-30fps and nobody **** about that.

I have sunk over 66 hours into this game and i am only 61% complete, my advice for this game is to explore, take in the vast lands and surprise yourself with what you can find, if you bought this game to mash a button in fights and to be told how to play then you bought the wrong game, stop following the bandwagon of being told what to like and what to hate, i bought this game for £35.99 with Ubisoft discount which i earned through gaming which is 20% off... on release, say what you will but nobody rewards you 20% off with a made up currency you earn by enjoying yourself.

The fighting is challenging as you have to think about what you're doing or you will die to simple soldiers with shields or dual wielding swords, it takes a little time but not hard to master, even higher rated mercenaries can be bested.

The map is huge, fast travel is there if you want it, it is filled with bandits wild life and events you can only find by exploring, you can find some awesome items just by exploring.

    Pros:
    Stunning visuals
Well over 70 hours game play
The choice to play either male or female
So much to do it can sometimes feel overwhelming which is GREAT in a RPG

    Cons:
Doesn't seem to like potato PC
The sea doesn't have the same pull as AC Black flag
    Millennials
Sorry having difficulty thinking of cons as it is honestly that good a game.

The atmosphere and environment of this game is superb, I've never seen a more beautiful game. It's extremely nice graphically, and it ran a smooth 60 FPS on Very High settings with my PC (GTX 1060, FX-8350).
The story is very intriguing with various twists and turns, leaving you on your toes. There were various moments in this game where I just stared at my screen in awe.

Awesome game, it's something different from the rest of the AC, but I'd like to think that I won't play the same game over and over and, in that sense, Odyssey is a step forward. I'm playing on a 7700k-1080ti Set up, so I didn't notice any performance issues, but it's Ubisoft, so you can expect that if you have a mid-end or low-end set up. If that so, just wait for sales.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm so happy we finally got a new 3rd person, Elder Scrolls game in 2018!... and here I thought I'd have to keep modding Skyrim until 2021's official TES:VI release.

Okay. So it's not really a TES game. I lied. But you gotta admit, I almost had you going there. No? Oh well... let's see.

    - Choose Gender? Check. (I chose Kassandra)
    - Choose Race? Check... albeit limited to Imperial.
    - Start story by getting armor after killing the first enemies? Check.
    - Having to go to a nearby town to actually get your first quest from someone who helped you when you were just a bandit (well... child bandit)? Check.
    - Being attacked randomly by trios of wolves in the wild? Check.
    - Notification (for the first time in an AC game) that you would be STEALING??? CHECK!
    - Being attacked by villager for stealing his stuff? CHECK CHECK CHECK!

Okay, you know, I could keep going, but it's better if I stop there. Actually, TES:VI is rumored to take place in Hammerfell. A region not to different from Ancient Rome/Greece/Norther Africa and Middle East. Looks like AC's got you beat there, Bethesda.

    Now. Onto the good stuff.

This game is an Assassin's Creed game, but it is more Witcher "3.5" than Prince of Persia, and that's what people are upset about. They are upset because, quite frankly, Ubisoft resorted to doing away with the formula completely before even trying to fix what was broken in the final days of the "true AC" (that is: Unity and Syndicate). They are right to be upset, but they are wrong in their assumption that their dislike for the latest formula, which is really an amalgam of other games' formulas, means the game is automatically bad, or as some have ignorantly put it, the "worst AC game ever" (clearly they did not play Unity).

    The game is not great.
    The game is not terrible.
The game sits somewhere between "The world could always use more heroes!" and "Ever get that feeling of deja vu?" (As respectively voiced by Overwatch's Tracer). And it never really leaves that place. If you enjoyed the freer elements of Origins, you will enjoy this one even more. If you enjoyed the more tedious elements of Origins, you will be frustrated by the freedom in this one. Thankfully, Ubi's got your back and they have a mode selection to let you decide whether you want freedom or not. Whether you want to play Skyrim, or AC:Origins.

The fighting mechanics, the visuals, the AI (including Mount pathfinding), the voice acting, the lip-sincing, the music, the bugs, etc etc etc, are in many ways identical to Origins. In fact, so many of these things are so identical, it becomes clear as soon as you leave the first island, that you're basically playing a stand-alone expansion of Origins. This, naturally, has upset many people.

So let me tell you what Odyssey is...

    - It's a fun game
    - It's a spin-off of Origins
    - It's definitely a game where you can assassinate your way through pretty much every NPC, except the important marks (I can see why people are upset at this, but for me, it's a nice break from something that started so long ago, I'm kind of tired of it)
    - It's an amalgam of many other really popular Action RPGs
    - It may or may not be worth the price tag for many. I got it on sale because PC games always have sales pretty much immediately.

... and then let me tell you, finally, what it is not:

    - It is NOT a TES game, so don't be fooled into buying it thinking you'll get that kind of epicness out of it.
    - And it is NOT a bootleg version of Witcher 3 (you won't get that kind of story), despite my significant other walking into the room while I was playing it and immediately asking me "Is that a new area in Witcher?"

You get sucked up into the game, lost in the story and characters. Mechanically this game has a few small bugs, but other wise it's a masterpiece. The music is fantastic, the scenery and setting are beyond a master piece. The fact that you can actually fight your way through things now without instantly failing a mission is fantastic. You got seen by one person? You can kill him before he alerts everyone. The skill choices and the combinations of sets allow for you to truly make your own person. It runs alright on my budget build from a few years ago as well, not as well as I want it to, but enough to get the job done. Everyone is just review bombing the game. Expand

Turn dof off and clouds to high. It's great, haven't played Origins, but in contrast to others I really like what Assassin's Creed has become, I was definitely burned out of the old formula. If you like games like the Witcher 3, then you will like this. Lol at 0 etc scores. Haven't encountered a single issue on PC, people with potato PCs and cpus begone.

This game is great. Beautiful world, lots of immersion. The sound ambiance is a big upgrade over AC:Origins, as well. I do think the voice acting is better than in Origins as well. The eye movements look great, but can be wonky sometimes, all in all it is good step forward in the AC series.

The game is fantastic, and you need to move on from the old ways of AC. RPG has definitely changed the series, but it made it better. You're now able to be a more complex, versatile character, and still focus on the style of play you prefer. No one stops you from being an awesome stabby assassin.

Most of the names used - Markos, Nikolaos, even the protagonist's name Alexios if you can believe it, are Byzantine, Italian even Syrian names and they were certainly not used in the game's time period, but close to a millennium later.

Don't get me started about "malakas" which is just simply annoying that it is used in that time period. And it's used constantly nonetheless.

The game is based in real historical facts and in mythological aspects and mythology is not fantasy, but a way of expression of real events in the ancient world.

I don't get many of the comments about grinding...it's not like a MMRPG where you need to go and pick fights with random packs of wolves, NPCs etc. just to level up. The timed mini-quests & bounties can be repetitive and are very simple (sometimes I've had quite literally the exact same mini-quest dialogue from different NPCs) but there are plenty of actual side quests which are generally interesting, and so far I've found no issues with leveling...and absolutely no grind has been required in my own experience. For reference, I'm relatively new to the series...played the original AC when it came out, but wasn't keen on the mechanics and gave up a few hours in...Origins was my first real AC game that I experienced in full. Some player might find the giant open world is a not so fitting setting to set an Assassin’s Creed story since it can make the player to be seperated from the story from the sheer ammount of time that the world exploration will take to do. The RPG element is good since it is develop together with AC: Origins. The multiple ending is also a good addition because it make the choice that the player have to be more important than normal story branching element.

Although this game has some improvement from AC: Origins even if it's not as many as i like but it is expected since this game is develop at the same time as AC: Origins so it is expected to have some similarity in gameplay and other elements to each other.

The reason i did not give this game a full 10/10 is because althought the modern day story line is connected to the Assassin's Creed Lore the actual animus part of story element althought interesting it is not connected enough even if the is some connection to the Assassin's Creed Lore as a whole.

Overall the experience of playing this new type of Assassin’s Creed is depend on each player but since i’m a fan of both exploration and Assassin’s Creed francise in general so i can make a good judgment that this game is very good for those who already love the Assassin’s Creed Francise and for those who love exploration and branching story element.

Since this is not a true RPG some RPG player might not like it so much and for those who like linear story line more this game also might not be for you.

The Dialogue Options aren't as big as for example in a Mass Effect, but they still have affection in the Outcome of certain Situations. I don't see why people are treating this game so negatively, Ubisoft tried something new out and I believe it worked wonderfully. The people that are saying "This isn't Assassin's Creed anymore" have literally no Idea of how the Game is designed and I am pretty sure that they didn't even play it. 1. My PC is at the lower end of the required specs (i7, 16 Gigs of RAM, GTX960). I run the game at medium settings, and it works perfectly well. No crashes or getting stuck, whatever.
    2. Yes, the game is a bit less "assassin-y". The story revolves around the stuff we know from other games, but it's not that you soon run around in the typical Assassin-outfit or colors. You DO use stealth, a lot of things prove this is an AC-game, but it's less so than the other games. I am a huge fan of the franchise and have played and finished almost all the other ACs (minus Liberation and those mini-games). And I enjoy this one a LOT.

This game is pretty much a perfect follow up to Origins. If you did like that one, you will enjoy Odyssey. Many of the abilities and controls are the same, yet things were added.

    - Moral choices. They're not having a GIANT effect on the story, but you can be either the cruel, determined person or more of the nice hero.
    - Battles. They're not gigantic, but they are fun. You run around in a battlefield, taking out soldiers and commanders. You're a mercenary, so you pick the sides and help shift powers.
    - Ship battles are back. If you did like the naval battle in Black Flag and Rogue... you will feel rght at home, as they're pretty much the same. However, you can "spec" your ship by capturing officers who will give your ship perks.
    - I found the talent tree to be more fun than in Origins.

The game does look beautiful. There is a lot to explore. People have complained that enemies level with you, so you never are 10 lvls above your opponents. I don't mind though, because I guess the same people complained about Origins and how you got a ton of quests you couldnt do because you were too low level. So you had to do side quests in order to get to the other main quests.

Others have complained about micotransactions. If that disqualifies the game for you... that's your opinion and I respect it. However, I think you would miss out on a beautiful game. I for one simply ignore the store. On my travels, I easily picked up enough materials to upgrade my ship, craft arrows etc.

This is a lot like AC+Witcher3+300, but it still is an AC game. It looks a bit better than Origins, and to me is even more fun. I did replay Origins right before the release, and I enjoyed Odyssey more.

So my opinion: If your PC can run it (mine can, even though it's not a state of the art up to date gaming machine), and you like the franchise, definitely give this a try. It's a bit less "Don the outfit, equip your wristblades, be a precursor of Altair and Ezio", it's shifting more towards "Be a mercenary in Greece, get tangled up in events related to the other games, use assassin techniques".

Once again, I do love the franchise, and I don't get why people say it's "not AC". It adds a different flavor, takes a different approach. How often do we need the same "Young guy suddenly is involved in Templar plot, gets an assassin outfit, gets the blades, gets trained, tada"

Approach this with an open mind. If you did like Origins, this is a step up from that, and to me, it's a totally enjoyable game.

+ outstanding user interface. the game has a lot of content and arranging it so well is not easy.

It's amazing what the Ubisoft team can do if you give them enough time. They no doubt created one of the best open world sandboxes.

The one complaint I share with many players is that while the game is technically great, it doesn't have much to do with "Assassin's Creed". The name could almost be dropped at this point. They really need to continue the main story. It's been 10 years and it should come to a conclusion at some point.

I have to deduct another point, because Ubisoft changed the story of the game to appeal to homosexuals. Nothing wrong with that, but it shouldn't have any impact on the story and Ubisoft should have the spine to stand up to social justice warriors and stick to their original story. Stop trying to appeal to everyone and just do your thing, for **** sake. Giving in to such idiots makes you look weak.

tl;dr: The only weak point in this game is the story.

It's also gorgeous to look at it. If you like eye candy, this is the game for you. Odyssey follows the trend these days to create a huge world and mash up many different gameplay elements into a single title. The Tomb Raider reboot did this, abandoning the mission-based format of the original series for a Far Cry-style open world combined with Uncharted-style gameplay. A lot of players don't like this, and I can understand this. Many still prefer a more classical approach to games that are more linear and focused. The Bioshock games do this, as well as Dishonored. And they do it for the most part extremely well. Likewise, a lot of players want a return of this series to the early Assassin's Creed games and not the direction that Origins and Odyssey have taken. It's a legitimate argument. I am rating this game like a standalone game, without any reference to early AC games. As a standalone game, I think it's great. It's not Witcher 3, to which it is often compared. I also played as Kassandra, and many have said that Kassandra makes for the better play-through than Alexios. I never felt like I was grinding in this game, which is a common complaint. To me, grinding is when all you do is run around killing things to make xp and get better gear. It's pretty much all you do in WoW, for example. I never did this in Odyssey. Yes, there are a lot of pointless fetch quests but you can skip them and still get levels doing other things. And there are a lot of hidden gems, quest chains with engaging stories in addition to the main story. Odyssey isn't a classic, but I give it a high score because of the fun factor, between the solid fight mechanics, the skill tree, ancient Greece history and lore, entertaining ship battles, the mercenary system, and a pretty interesting and well-voice acted lead character (again, I didn't play as Alexios but from what I saw of him in my game and on You Tube videos, he's not as good). There are a lot of reported bugs, but the game ran fine for me. For a game this size, you can always expect bugs until they get some major patches out. Overall I enjoyed this one a lot as both an action game and an rpg. Expand

Bugs do exist, but are not game-breaking. Micro transactions exist as well (which is sad for a single player game) to speed up progression, but that's not a problem for me. If you don't wanna buy, don't buy, go grind and have fun.

Game needs some optimization though, since its performance is not good and not stable., and the presets are just bad. Not a huge problem for me, since i game with an: Intel i7-4790 + GTX 1070 Gaming X 8G (MSI), averaging 56 fps, at 1440p, with custom settings in a combination of Ultra High + Very High + High. the number of idiots giving ratings is just amazing. This is not AC game , so i'll give it a 1 or 0. Grow up, Fantastic game, never had so much fun in a huge open world game since The Witcher, which this game desperately tries to imitate, but does it very very well.

First i must say this is the best game of Assassin's Creed franchise from 2014(AC Unity) to now. even in some cases better than AC III and AC IV.

Yeah, it's not that Assassin's Creed, but it's a very beautiful game with wonderful plot. So, if you like The Witcher, this game is must have.

I don't really know why this game has so many negative reviews, but we all know there is a lot of haters out there. Anyway, this game is really good and worth all the money and time invested in ! Great AAA titile

It's an amazing game, and unlike all the drivel here that are mad because this isn't another cookie-cutter Assassin's Creed game, I enjoyed the new take as much as the old.

In short. Pros: everything. Cons: none, sorry :) . Large, beautifull world, lots of things to do, all of them interesting. Clever endings. Just can't believe Ubisoft made such a great game. Thank You.

One of the best Assassins creed games. Perfect fight system, interesting side quests, big open world. Only main story sucks.

The latest addition to the Assassin's Creed franchise is truly a wonder and a fresh take on a stale idea. The excellent execution, gameplay and story is only overshadowed by greedy micro transactions, paid XP and awful optimization.

An excellent and beautiful game from ancient Greece. Maybe it’s very different from the first game, however this evolution benefits the brand. [Issue#290]

While AC: Origins was packed with interesting stories, Odyssey is a generic ’Ubisoft sandbox’ in the worst sense, with hundreds of the same-looking places, dozens of ”kill-fetch” quests and almost zero motivation to grind further.
