Atelier Ryza 3: Alchemist of the End & the Secret Key is the natural and definitive evolution of this series, ending the journey of Ryza and her friends in a fantastic way. A comfortable and fun RPG in equal measure, it tweaks the formula enough to keep it distinct yet still familiar to longtime fans of the series that were waiting for the conclusion of the Secret trilogy.
The Gust Corporation team managed to surprise us again, completing the phenomenal evolution process to which its IP had undergone starting from the first Atelier Ryza. Despite having inherited most of the mechanics from the second episode, the last fundamental piece of the trilogy has the merit of having speeded up and streamlined every single aspect of the production, giving the player a decidedly more engaging rhythm. Both the narrative and the gameplay boast a depth never touched before by the Atelier series, which however continues to sin from a graphic point of view. Although the title is the result of cross-generational development, at least on PlayStation 5 we would have expected something more. Overall, however, Ryza's last summer is confirmed as a fun JRPG capable of giving rather strong emotions.
Do not get on console until patched 100%. Terrible performance and graphics.
Update: 1.05 on PS5 is AMAZING. Get the game!! They fixed EVERYTHING. Res also feels like its 4k now too instead of lol720P
Previously to me the game was a 2/10 because on ps5 it was unplayable on the 1.0 to 1.3 releases.
Now? On 1.05 DOF can be disabled, (this was the BIG one, it was causing headaches within 2 minutes)
HDR is not a joke anymore, its not perfect but its very very decent finally
Performance. Feels like a stable 60 without stuttering on ps5 now. It feels awesome. Before it felt like 20 FPS and there were weird frame skip like effects all over the place. Those are ALL gone.
Text size, only small increase, however the background behind it now has better coloring and less transparency, so you can definitely read it now, unless your tv is maybe too small. On 65’ its perfect.
Normally I would give this game an 8, with the above fixes.
Im giving it a 10 now because GUST and KT actually listened to its players. Which is just unheard of in 2023. That is absolutely worthy of 2 extra points. KEEP UP THE AWESOME WORK. (And maybe next time dont release too early lol)
Atelier Ryza 3: Alchemist Of The End & The Secret Key closes out the final chapter of Ryza’s trilogy with a powerful send-off. The addictive gameplay loop and fine-tuned crafting system will keep you entertained for dozens of hours. It expands upon what worked well in the first two entries while setting the standard for future Atelier games to come.
Building an entire series around a single character was a bit of a risky choice, but I’m happy to say that Ryza, as a character, held up as someone who’s worth checking back in on over and over again. In ten years will we be looking back at Ryza as an iconic-level character the way we do Sophie and Platcha? Probably not – but that’s an impossibly high bar. Ryza had an incredible adventure to go on, and now that it’s done, I’m glad we got the chance to go on it with her.
Atelier Ryza 3: Alchemist of the End and The Secret Key bids a fond farewell to arguably the franchise's most beloved alchemist. With it comes a series-encompassing narrative and engaging yet imperfect combat. To boot, you can dig into the systems as much or as little as you want and still succeed. Ryza 3 truly sets the bar for the Atelier franchise.
The shift to an open world mostly works,
though the rest can feel a little lacking
compared to other entries. But the cosy
questing will hook you. [Issue#27, p.86]
Atelier Ryza 3: Alchemist of the End & the Secret Key is the biggest Atelier game to date. Ryza and her friends are just as charming as ever and this is a fantastic way to end the trilogy. The vibrant open-world areas are a joy to explore, and the slick combat and engaging alchemy system will keep you entertained throughout.
Ryza 3 is massive! It has 4 big connected regions to explore without any loading time, also include bunch of improvements and expansions on the already perfected gameplay. Also without spoiling anything, it has overwhelming bosses fights and heartwarming closure to the adventure!
A game with a lot to explore, but no reason to explore it.
The crafting system is absolutely amazing, like always, but pretty much everything else has taken a back seat at the end of this trilogy. The characters are 'ok', the story is forgettable, the battle system is meh. Overall, the whole experience felt underwhelming.
Let me start off by saying that I am such a big fan of the series that I have 2 Ryza figures and a Lila figure that cost around $200 each along with a few really nice posters from AmiAmi. Needless to say, I absolutely love the characters and series. That being said, I’m completely disgusted and disappointed at the state this was released on PS5. Muddy textures, low resolution, horrible fps, jittery camera, washed out colors (I think from poor HDR implementation) After a few hours of play I had to download Ryza 2 because I didn’t remember it looking so bad. After loading into my saved game I was greeted with crisp clean graphics and silky smooth performance. I don’t know if this was Gust’s doing or Koei Tecmo but this absolutely shouldn’t have been released like this! If it’s ever patched and fixed I’ll gladly come back and change my score but until then, I’ve quit playing and will come back when it no longer looks and plays like garbage and I can enjoy my experience instead of continually exclaiming, “Eeew…WTF?”
