While it doesn't do anything new in terms of narrative direction, it somehow gets the foundations that made the first game so fun and makes them even more enjoyable, this time adding a level of depth that makes players feel important. It thrusts people into the heart and soul of the franchise, making it one of the best anime games this gaming generation has to offer.

Rarely have I ever played a JRPG that was so faithful to the source material you felt like watching an anime with brief moments of gameplay. You get to relive the same epic story that has yet to be finished, but this time you see it from the point of view of someone who was actually there, and not just a spectator. As such, if you’re a hardcore Attack on Titan fan, or you want to play something that will ease your introduction into the series, then I recommend Attack on Titan 2 wholeheartedly.

That energetic feeling in the first game of swinging around buildings and taking out Titans with a well-placed strike is still incredibly satisfying. Complemented by a solid PC port, and you have yet another highly entertaining licensed product by Omega Force well worth checking out. This is how a sequel should be treated.

Even though the game represents a standard Omega Force half-asset flip of their own first Attack on Titan game, it still delivers enough of new things. With plenty of options regarding your own character, the RPG-lite elements, and the way the player can interact and make bonds with other NPC characters makes it so this could be considered a fine continuation of the series. If you wanted to enjoy the story and characters from the AoT universe from your perspective as a unique character then this is a good option for you, just watch out for the abysmal camera and somewhat iffy movement controls.

AOT 2 is a decent sequel with solid gameplay, and of course it's a great feast to anime fans. However, dealing with relationships with your companions is tedious and somewhat stupid.

Attack on Titan is a fun hack-and-slash that well represents the Attack on Titan franchise.

New additions include: a 'what-if' story that allows you to make your own character and play through season 1, season 2 + a secret chapter, multiplayer (finally), lots of new and interesting weapons, a ton of new unlockable playable characters (over 20 new), vastly improved UI, a few new special titans, an even better and more streamlined ODM system, new flashy attacks like the scoped sneak attack and air jump attack, a suite of new missions, season 1 cutscenes have been redone to match the anime 1:1, a lot new costumes (DLC and in-game), the friend and skill systems, base building and upgrading bases, Another Mode in which you can play as and level up your favorite characters from the series, graphics that recreate the feel of the anime, and an overhauled mission system.

All of this is apparent within the first hour of playing. Really recommended for fans of anime or those who are looking to get into it. AoT2 packs plenty of new stuff whether this is your jumping in point or if you were left wanting more after the first game-- and it all runs beautifully on whatever version you choose be it a PS4, an XB1, or even on PC.

For those wondering why this game has such a negative review, it's because it's not truly "Attack on Titan 2," but rather, "Attack on TitanFor those wondering why this game has such a negative review, it's because it's not truly "Attack on Titan 2," but rather, "Attack on Titan Remastered," and should've really been named and marketed as such. The game, while done from the perspective of a custom character, covers the same missions as the first game, and even goes as far as to reuse the same cutscenes. While the game has a stronger combat design and a refined visual appearance, it is at heart 80% the same as the first game. Those who have played the first game need not purchase. Expand
