This game is a must play for any Batman fan and a must play for any Telltale fan. The story is different and refreshing but has the best of Telltale baked in with the decisions and the flowing dialogue. It was a pleasure to play and another shining example of great story telling in a game and had some of the best QTE I’ve seen in one of their games.

The usual Telltale's formula, applied to a superhero story, with some smart ideas and a plot focused much more on Bruce Wayne rather than on Batman himself.

If you can accept the studio's adventure game formula and the fairly large deviations to the canon, then Batman: The Telltale Series is a good game. The story remains gripping, and the additions to the gameplay formula make this feel more refined over the studio's previous efforts. The lack of further technical polish, however, is unfortunate; fixing those issues would've placed this game in the upper echelon of the studio's offerings. As it stands, Batman fans will certainly want to check out this title.

It's a game for Batman fans who really don't care about the form. Or for fans of Telltale's products who aren't picky about the content.

About the only nice thing I can say about Batman is that it’s short. It only took me about eight hours to complete the game’s five episodes, and I was happy when it was over. So obviously, I don’t recommend this game to anyone for any reason, unless you’re an obstinate fan of the Dark Knight.

Batman: The Telltale Series squanders its potential with a messy story obsessed with retreading older Batman tales.

Story games were never 100% a thing for me, even though I did like them, I just liked competitive multiplayer games way more. Until I started watching a certain youtuber (Cryaotic). Saw many of his series, but this one really made me stop watching him and start playing it for myself. It was a mindblown for me, being able to create your story, have dialogues with characters and have choices. For that Batman will always have a place in my heart.

It captivated me from the beginning to the end, even though I only have a basic knowledge of Batman's universe. Batman introduced me to Telltale's games, and for that I can never be thankful enough.

This was really an unique experience for me. It really is brilliant, feeling like in a real movie, being the "real" protagonist of the story, giving the answers, making the choices, really exciting. Liked every character, everything looked really polished.

I did realise that this is not that type of game, with completely different routes that change the whole, whole game from A to Z. The choies do matter though, but to a point. They change the way the story is told, but idea stays there. Which does not really suck if you ask me. Some choices matter more than other, long-term, some less, only short-term. And you can never be sure which one is which. The choices can change characters, how they interract with you, if they interract with you, even scenes.. completely. You can have your own personality and Batman/Bruce can be the way you want him to be. There are consequences, don't ever forget that though. Not like ones that will send you to a completely different route where Batman finds himself in Budapest fighting aliens, but still pretty big ones, believe me. Still, some stuff will always stay there no matter what, but the game is so well done that you will never know which.

Gameplaywise there is nothing really that amazing. Every episode has its short parts where you get the control of Batman or Bruce and you can move him around solving stuff or doing other stuff, sometimes you get to interract with stuff, you also have the dialogue choices gameplay and lastly the Quick-Time events. Nothing mindblowing, but neither boring at all. The Quick-Time events are also quite fine, I really enjoyed them Quick-Time events fights. And I am one of those guys who really dislike them in most games. Nothing challenging in terms of gameplay, just so you know. The game is mostly about enjoying a good story, not having a challenging fight with a boss. That means that almost anyone can play and fully enjoy this title. My girlfriend did too, and other than the typical smartphone games everybody plays.. she doesn't play anything else.

Oh, by the way, the story has nothing to do with the original Batman universe. It is something else, of its own. Everything is different in this title. You don't need to know anything about Batman at all, because it is not a Batman game, it is a Telltale game. So if you were worrying about that, you don't have to. This can be played alone without having the experience influenced in any way.

They’re not forI’ve always admired Telltale games as they were and are a very interesting blend of dialogue choices and QTE driven events. They’re not for everyone but for those that enjoy them they are always a bar for quality. Given my love for the Batman character and world I was overjoyed to see a Batman game in this genre. With the exception of one part it met my expectations and then some. The story and characters are fantastic. The game did a great job of taking established characters and finding new ways to use them or tweak their back stories and make them feel fresh. Messing with established canon could have been what sunk this game if done wrong but I can’t think of a part I would criticize or didn’t enjoy. Penguin; Vicky Vale; Selina Kyle; Harvey Dent; Gordon; the list goes on; I enjoyed how they were all presented. I also loved how this batman could be played as just a tad more brutal than some interpretations. Between roughing up suspects and the fights themselves being more brutal than in some previous Batman games I was happy with the style. I especially liked how in some larger fights you could plan out your attack by linking objects to people so you had some freedom of choice in the fights although sometimes it was more linear. The voice acting was fantastic across the board. The graphics style was mostly what you would expect from Telltale. It had a good style and use of colours but I wills say the hair detail on some characters was poor as was some injury details. For instance in one scene Bruce is applying bandages to his shoulder after a fight and they are coming off bloody but his body itself had no blood. Clothing and water detail were especially good and stood out. The puzzles with the exception of a couple were great. You had to link items to get a full picture of what happened at the scene. A couple times the objects linked made no sense to me but it was trial and error and the majority of them could be solved by logic. One other thing I will mention is that you are going to want to use a Telltale account while playing. I learned the hard way that in future Telltale Batman games you can’t simply import your save game file that it has to be done using cloud saves or by manually saying which choices you picked in this game. I hadn’t remembered my choices from years ago so that’s why I replayed this now. The controls were decent although having combos of “Shift + Q/E” at times were annoying.

I played Batman: A Telltale Series on Linux using Wine. The game never crashed on me and I didn’t notice any bugs. What I did notice however was some of the worst optimization I have ever encountered. At times the game would drop to 0 FPS and there was a near constant state of sluggish, jittery moments. Even when the frame rate was well above 60 it could feel that way. Furthermore this wasn’t a Wine issue as when I first bought this game years ago I encountered the same problems on Windows. This also means that, in the over four years since release, this issue was never solved or patched by the developers which is shameful. The game also uses way more system resources than something of it’s visual quality should. Previous Telltale games didn’t have this issue so I’m not sure why Batman does. There are 3 AO settings; an AA toggle and 2 other graphics options to adjust. You can pause the game at any time but can’t skip cut scenes. Alt-Tab doesn’t work. The Telltale account for cloud saves worked just fine in Wine on Linux.

Graphics Engine: Telltale Tool version 27
    Game Version Played: 1.0.0.1
    Input Used: Keyboard and Mouse
    Disk Space Used: 13.8 GB

Settings Used: All High; DOF Off; AA On; 1080P
    GPU Usage: 0-100 %
    VRAM Usage: 1489-3857 MB
    CPU Usage: 6-34 %
    RAM Usage: 2.5-3.4 GB
    Frame Rate: 2-144 FPS

Outside of the terrible optimization this was a fantastic game. My gut wants to give it a low score because of how it ran but it was too damn good and fun to do that. If you enjoy Telltale games or the Batman series this should have something for you. I finished all five episodes in 7 hours and 37 minutes which felt like a good length.

So the only thing I have to say is: This game is the same as all the Telltale games except this one is about Batman.

If you are not bored of the formula, this game is for you. If you are a fan of DC Comics and Batman, this game is for you.

Myself as a fan of Batman can actually recommend it, it's not canon, but let's be honest, what's canon in DC in those days?
