Battle Chasers is a great game and great RPG. I love the rich characters and their background. The art style makes this whole experience beautiful. The story, while I have not completed it yet, has captured me and I can’t wait to see where it goes. I think anyone who enjoys RPGs will enjoy Battle Chasers.

An excellent modern nod towards the likes of Final Fantasy, and a beautifully drawn, masterfully animated feast for the eyes. [12/2017, p.72]

Atmospheric and very beautiful dungeon crawler with thrilling tactical and complex round-based strategy battles in a lively cartoon world.

There’s a solid 20-40 hours of game packed into Battle Chasers, more if you like to build characters, dungeon delve, and explore all the hidden nooks and crannies. For $30, there’s more on offer here than most modern AAA games..What it lacks in AAA flash and pomp, Battle Chasers more than makes up for with compelling gameplay and incredible story and art direction.

Classic but stylish, Battle Chasers: Nightwar has a truly inspired art direction and tons of good ideas; unfortunately, some bugs ruin the experience of a pretty unique RPG. Airship Syndicate needs to fix this, as soon as possible, so that the game can reach its true potential.

As pretty as Nightwar is, the need to continually grind within the game creates an experience that is difficult to force yourself through. This is in spite of the truly engaging battle system, which offers layers of strategic combat that make it stand out from similar turn-based RPG’s. There’s a great world to explore in this game; if only it didn’t take so much grinding to properly enjoy it.

This is the type of game that should be an automatic hit for RPG players, but there is something missing in the complete package. The graphics are good, and typical genre staples are present, but ultimately it gets lost in itself. Overall this is a solid title, but in the end it lacks heart. It does everything averagely, and nothing especially rises above, or provides anything unique - unfortunate, as its ingredients definitely lend itself to what might have been a really great game.

I like the atmosphere in this game, the story, the music and the battle System.
I just kinda wish the battle speed would be higher than that and it would include an automatic battle system but it does not.

Well it is still a rlly amazing rpg game which everyone who loves playing rpgs should have played. Plus it is not even an expensive game 2. I germany I have paid around 10€ for that game.

The visuals are nicely done and if you like the artwork of Joe Madureira it's very pretty. Audio is more of a 50/50 with the voice acting being nicely done while the music is pretty boilerplate and generic. Story is nothing special for fans of RPGs or the Battle Chasers comics.

The biggest issues with the game are some questionable design decisions like only being able to craft in dungeons or apply enchants in very specific locations. Most of what you accumulate from drops is crafting loot, but 90% of the time gear you can craft is severely dwarfed by items you can buy or earn from the Heroic or Legendary dungeon completion boxes.

Difficulty is also wildly inconsistent as trash enemies often posed a more annoying threat than dungeon bosses. The exception to this being some of the Hunt targets; in particular the Mire of the Deep hunt boss only has two attacks and one is a group wide attack with heavy damage plus a severe poison effect. If you get unlucky and he only uses this attack the fight becomes basically un-winnable.

Nightwar is a competent game but fails in some vital areas to rise above other classic style turn-based RPGs; especially coming out in the same year as the exceptional Persona 5 and Divinity: Original Sin 2.

This game has some lovely comic book type artwork, but ultimately is let down by really poor gameplay mechanics.

When travelling overland, an icon shows you the position of enemies. Unfortunately, there seems to be no way to check their level, or how many there are (apart from a symbol that shows more than 1 wave of enemies), or the type of monster (apart from the first one in the group) so you can easily end up wandering into a battle where you have no chance.

The game throws tons of crafting materials at you, but oddly enough, you can only craft items inside a dungeon, at a specific location.

When exploring a dungeon, you only get to control one of your characters at a time - the other members in your party just "disappear". It's a bit stupid as you get some platform and lever type puzzles which would be made easier if you could have all the characters in your party participating, but you only get to control one.

Combat is really boring with your party of 3 against up to 3 enemies at a time in a turn based format where you typically spam the same abilities over and over. The enemies seem to do more damage than your party but typically have lower health, except for bosses, which are frustrating to fight against as they often have area of effect abilities that can take off half your party's health or a special attack that can one-shot one of your characters.

Grinding is forced on you as your characters will inevitably be underlevelled each time they get to a new dungeon area, and fighting enemies of higher level than your party is not a good idea, as they tend to do far more damage. The monsters on the overland map respawn after you rest at an inn so you often just find yourself aimlessly wandering the countryside of search of extra experience points.

Dialogue is very simplistic and seems to be aimed at preteens, plus the music is almost nonexistent and the voice acting quite limited.

I got this game on special off Steam and played for about 12 hours before getting fed up and uninstalling during a frustrating boss fight. With a better combat system and less need for grinding, this game could be pretty good, but in its current state, it's probably more suited to being played as a mobile game when you have some time to kill during a boring meeting at work.

Unity and an 80 dollar asset doesn't make a videogame. This is an insult to jrpg gamers. Plus protagonist's voice so annoying i had to mute sound.
