Battlefield is back in shape and more so with fresh theme of the first Great War! After a long time, the campaign is successful and multiplayer is traditionally excellent. So, this year your choice is set! [Issue #269]

Those subtle changes and little overhauls make all the difference, and they’re wrapped up in perhaps the most beautiful first-person shooter ever made – one that captures the sludge of the trenches, the cacophony of destruction of a battlefield, and the intensity of desert standoffs and mountainside raids. Dice has taken a risk visiting a time period not seen in major multiplayer shooters before, and Battlefield aces it. This is a lavish package that capitalises on a stagnancy in the genre, offering something new, exciting and, most importantly, solid.

Battlefield 1 is a refreshing, gorgeous shooter that breaks up the monotony of futuristic action games with solid mechanics and a setting that has never gotten the attention it deserves.

Since picking the game up, I've already sunk over 40 hours into it and I don't see that stopping any time soon. We are back to what Battlefield is all about, and it's never been better as far as the multiplayer is concerned. It is the stuff dreams are made of, the very thing that Battlefield 1942 strived to be all those years ago but was limited by hardware at the time. It may not be the single player experience some people may be looking for, but for the multiplayer massive-scale shooter fan, this belongs in your library of games. It has crawled through the mud, bludgeoned previous entries, and taken its rightful place as my favorite Battlefield game to date.

Like a bayonet charge to the face, Battlefield 1 packs a serious punch, and it looks damn good while doing it. With a revamped, emotionally charged campaign, the single-player experience is, without a doubt, the franchise’s best. The multiplayer combines solid classics and unbeatable mechanics with new modes that fit the WWI setting brilliantly. Could this be the Battlefield to end all Battlefields? It just might.

Battlefield 1 is deeply respectful of shocking, torrid events that occurred more than 100 years ago and irreparably altered the course of history, surprisingly so. The headline multiplayer mode, Operations, encapsulates the essence The Great War; the power play for territory and the desperate bids to reclaim lost ground, and injects it into a game mechanic that incites a genuine sense of achievement arising from the trials and tribulations.

The campaign is worth checking out, Operations delivers clear forward thinking for Battlefield as a series in a way I think Rush never really did, and the maps are absolutely spectacular. Battlefield One is utterly brilliant.

Battlefield fans are going to absolutely love Battlefield 1, and casual first person shooter dabblers will find enough in the variety of modes to entertain for hours. However, this is still a Battlefield game at heart, and those who have shied away from the objective-focused mentality in the past are likely to shy away from Battlefield 1 as well. Having said that, everyone should at least try Battlefield 1 because it is one of the more enjoyable shooters in recent memory.

In an era dominated by modern military and sci-fi shooters, Battlefield 1 going back to the Great War is a refreshing change of pace. After 40-plus hours with the riveting multiplayer action, I’m still eager to charge once more into the breach.

Battlefield 1 offers hands down the best graphics of any shooter, nay, any game to date. While its single-player-campaign is – again – unnecessary drivel, as short as it is forgettable, the multi-player-offering is in a league of its own. If you only buy one shooter this year, make it Battlefield 1.

Battlefield 1 has become one of the greatest shooters based on the World War, featuring a very complete story mode, a well-polished multiplayer and a soundtrack that will be remembered well into the future. A must-buy in this videogame genre.

Battlefield 1 is an exemplary multiplayer shooter and, looks like, the only decent game about World War I in the entire history of the FPS genre.

Battlefield 1 has a conservative approach, despite its unusual historical setting. This means it is technically impressive and multiplayer is fun and spectacular. We also like the way the campaign is told, almost as a documentary.

Battlefield 1 boldly takes the series into the past during one of the most deadly times in world history. Nine varied maps offer vastly different combat opportunities, while the War Stories show us the horrors of The Great War. Battlefield has looked to the past, to usher in a new era for the historic franchise, and it’s a smashing success.

Battlefield 1, DICE's newest baby, leaves its competitors in the dirt. It's a full-fledged installment in the series, a game on the Bad Company 2 or Battlefield 3 level. A game that offers an eagerly awaited atmosphere of a real historical conflict. BF1 officially ends all this futuristic and plastic warfare nonsense and returns to the roots.

Battlefield 1 disrupts the grueling hegemony of shooters from the modern and futuristic wars. It is not just about new historic era, because the game looks beautiful, and it is also great to play; does not tire you – a fact, we can´t say about other FPS series. Sometimes it is simply necessary to take a step backwards, so you can move forward.

Battlefield 1 is the game that DICE needed to keep the series fresh. The WWI setting makes for great gameplay, and it's well-executed and super fun to play. The campaign is short but enjoyable, and the multiplayer is outstanding.

There’s very little to dislike about Battlefield 1. What the game is at its core is a beautiful-looking and exciting period shooter that will give fans of the series (and those that have been clamouring for a AAA historical FPS) hours of fun.

DICE has done a praiseworthy job giving The War to End All Wars and the soldiers who bravely fought in it the kind of respect they deserve, while also delivering an amazing multiplayer game. If you’re a fan of shooters, or games in general, you’ll want to enlist.

Battlefield 1 is a bold reinvention of the Battlefield series, proving not only that DICE aren't afraid to move in brave new directions, but also that they have a genuine understanding of what makes a Battlefield game really tick. Series veterans will feel immediately at home in the multiplayer, while those scared by the online battlefields will find the campaign, while short, provides a great diversion and a good way to ease yourself into the chaotic world of Battlefield.

Battlefield 1 delivers on almost every promise made, and it sure is one of the best FPSs of the end of the year. We only wish it could have had fewer bugs and a bit more historic accuracy, but as long as the gameplay is addictive, we're satisfied.

Battlefield 1 is a monumental shooter. Putting "aside" the Single Player campaign (fun, varied and spectacular but very short), the strengh of the production is obviously represented by the PvP. His large-scale battles are an experience that all multiplayer fans should try.

The campaign of Battlefield 1 can only be described as short and sweet. The intro to the game may be one of the best anti-war odes we’ve seen in years. Combine all of the above with the very deep multiplayer, along with the best visuals in the industry and an amazing atmosphere and you have an amazing, albeit pricey, package.

Smoke-filled skies, destroyed buildings, ever-present dirt, trenches and heavily armored beasts, clouds of poisonous gas and panicked feeling that you’re being shot at from every direction and there’s not a square inch of ground that’s truly safe. The setting feels not just grim – more like apocalyptic. [Issue#214, p.52]

A much needed radical change of setting worked great. It’s still obvious you’re playing a Battlefield game, but it offers a lot of period specific elements you won’t find in other war themed shooters. I was delighted with Battlefield 1’s multiplayer, but unfortunately the single player campaign is very uneven and leaves the aftertaste of squandered potential of a great setting. [12/2016, p.36]

BF1 isn’t exactly forgettable, but it adds little that’s new to the genre. I could probably, literally dig up my review of the very first Call of Duty, and 90% of it would apply to this game as well.

Close combat, ragdoll explosions, mud, poison gas, and the violence of one of the bloodiest conflicts in history mix with pigeon babysitting. War Pigeons is a good summary of Battlefield 1 in general.

With a fantastic single-player segment this year's Battlefield feels like a very complete package. The multiplayer adds some impressive new modes and features but at its core its the same old Battlefield experience.

Battlefield 1 is a fantastic game, but not necessarily a fantastic Battlefield game. The boots on the ground multiplayer is second to none, but the vehicular action which was always the focus of Battlefield has moved to the wayside, replaced by run and gun action and a surplus of snipers picking people off.

It feels like Battlefield, it works like Battlefield, and it has plenty of opportunities for amazing things to happen that have only ever happened in a Battlefield game. It’s nice to see DICE returning to the roots of what makes this series so amazing, and I’m happy that, for the first time in years, a new Battlefield game doesn’t feel like it is in the middle of an identity crisis.

It somehow manages to be a good amalgam of the staple formula DICE has relied on for years, with a bit of anime (flashes of Metal Gear Solid V and flowing shonen capes) sprinkled in for good measure. I'm really not looking forward to spending $50 on the DLC to get more maps, but for now, I'll be coasting along in Operations for the next few months.

Battlefield 1 is gorgeous and impressive in all domains, and for once in the series, the single-player campaign lives up to the multiplayer mode. Beyond some bugs and minor issues, the main problem here is the inexplicable absence of the French and Russian armies.

Battlefield 1 provides a fresh enough approach to the total war concept, in which this series has thrived for years. It's only a shame that the classic conflict was a bit "modernized" with pervasive machine guns. Nevertheless, it's a great game, with an interesting campaign and extensive multiplayer.
  52. Oct 17, 2016

Operations mode is the standout addition to the multiplayer, bringing together the behemoths, the destruction, the hellish screams of people charging into the fight. I do wish that the single player had been able to push on and draw more from that excellent opening, but stepping back to the First World War helps to give Battlefield 1 a refreshing and invigorating veneer to the game, and it’s lost none of the series’ explosive gameplay in the process.

If you have a decent gaming PC, this is a must-buy. If you love online shooters, this is a must-buy.
  2. It is safely good. Even with the addition of Operations mode and the behemoths and the return to a more instinctively dramatic setting, it still feels like Battlefield. There’s capture points and there’s guns. There’s deathmatch and there’s conquest. There’s grenade spam and sniper alleys and miraculous dive-bombing pilots who somehow manage to use the terrible flight controls. The Great War might have been unique, but Battlefield 1 isn’t. For some, that won’t be a problem. For others, it might be time to sue for peace.
  3. Oct 21, 2016
That commitment to the time period and dedication to an earnest presentation of what war was really like can’t help but clash with the raucous fun we’re expected to have when we dip into the multiplayer modes with friends, however. Battlefield 1 uses the same language of play for both sections, and in so doing shows that this dichotomy can’t last. For a game to do war right, it’d have to be about the struggle to exist. It’d have to be about the starvation, the panic, and the agony of it all. Battlefield 1 comes tantalizingly close to this.

It looks beautiful and the sound is stunning, but putting that aside you have gun play (which a first person shooter is based around) that is absolutely terrible. Basically spray and prey guns which appear to be designed for people who can't aim except for scout (recon) leaving you with a roll the dice mechanic on who dies. Due to this a lot of people seem to play are snipers or vehicles leaving the game a sniper fest with some vehicles pushing. Tack on Darth Vader style heros with silly amounts of health and extremely powerful weapons, and giving giant farm blimps to the losing team to reward them for sniping from their spawn, once the beauty wears off you're left with a pretty **** game. This review contains spoilers, click full review link to view. As a someone who started with 1942 and toped that game about some 2000 hours i am dissapointed with what DICE has been shoveling games with these day's.

The game is NOT interesting..at all!
In the 45 minutes i played this game half of my team was running and gunning pew pewing with LMG'all over the map just ignoring the objectives and the other half was on top of some mountain sniping.Netcode of the game is still FUBAR as you never know who shot you from where and if you rely on the killcam most of the shots/kills are impossible to make ,so in my opinion you would never know is if the player who shot you legit/aimboter/or the killcam is (again)not working properly.

Refunded after one hour and dissapointed that DICE failed yet again in making an enjoyable game i was hoping for.
Sad as i am that the glorious day's of 1942,Battlefield 2 and 2142 are long gone i would never recomend this game to anyone.
Teenagers on the other hand seems to like it it and can't get enough of!

    Refunded and unninstalled ...meh!
