This game takes 2I have been looking forward to finding a F2P MMORPG for a long time, and I am here to say that I have found that game. This game takes 2 opposing ideas and places them in the same world.
Lets start with the art style. On one side you've got the Steampunk art style with its Victorian-esque look and feel. There is massive, sprawling cities with this overhanging cloud of smog that tells you the team that was behind this game put in a lot of thought into how they wanted to design their cities for the faction. There is a constant essence of the mechanical everywhere and a barren dry land, and no way to know, you're in the wrong faction's city because of that fact. On the other side of the world, there is the Fantasy driven art style. Lush foliage and bright colors are placed everywhere. You've got dragons to fly around on and the areas are teeming with wildlife. The cities are open and spacious with an open ceiling to look up at the sky and trees sprawl in every direction for miles. Truly a very beautiful land.
You've got your choice of every MMORPG traditional PVE and PVP play, only Black Gold Online takes that idea and puts a twist to it. Battle carriers. Imagine mounts that you can use solely for war. If a quest is way too difficult to complete solo, look no further, summon your battle carrier, tank/mech/plane for steampunk faction and a dragon/sabertooth tiger/rhino for the fantasy faction, and chop the difficulty level in half. You can even take these battle carriers into war. Large scale battles with players in a zoned area where you fight to capture flags. On one day, I was playing with almost 300 other players in this zone. Battle carriers were key here to defending and capturing flags, along with counterpushing the enemy!
The PVE aspect of the game is unlike any. The instances are made very player friendly by making your set destination simple, or setting a clear goal for defeating the bosses, or questing. There are also these dungeons that are set around the world that you can enter to loot bosses and treasure chests, only these dungeons are also made available to other players. Meaning, when you enter a dungeon to kill a boss, there will be other players in there too, working to get that boss's loot or working to loot the treasure chest.
The PVP is Black Gold Online is mind blowingly amazing. Fast-paced, action-packed, oh, and you can kill any player. ANY PLAYER. Same faction? No problem. If there is a guy annoying the heck out of you, enable "slaughter mod" and enjoy killing people of the same faction. Of course, there is a punishment for this, a ridiculous amount of jail time, or city guards destroying you on sight and then some jail time. Also, those dungeons that I mentioned earlier under the PVE section, yeah, you can enable slaughter mode in the dungeons so that you don't have to share the loot. You can kill everyone and take everything for yourself. Something to point out, the PVP system doesn't seem very noob friendly because of the abilities not having many systems in place for "pretargetting". In other words, you have to aim your abilities, which is nice and fun, but not very beginner friendly.
Overall, I loved this game, and with it being in beta, and at this level of play, I cannot wait to see its full release. Snail Games USA, I look forward to, possibly, the best MMORPG I have every played.… Expand
