I have been looking forward to finding a F2P MMORPG for a long time, and I am here to say that I have found that game. This game takes 2I have been looking forward to finding a F2P MMORPG for a long time, and I am here to say that I have found that game. This game takes 2 opposing ideas and places them in the same world.

Lets start with the art style. On one side you've got the Steampunk art style with its Victorian-esque look and feel. There is massive, sprawling cities with this overhanging cloud of smog that tells you the team that was behind this game put in a lot of thought into how they wanted to design their cities for the faction. There is a constant essence of the mechanical everywhere and a barren dry land, and no way to know, you're in the wrong faction's city because of that fact. On the other side of the world, there is the Fantasy driven art style. Lush foliage and bright colors are placed everywhere. You've got dragons to fly around on and the areas are teeming with wildlife. The cities are open and spacious with an open ceiling to look up at the sky and trees sprawl in every direction for miles. Truly a very beautiful land.

You've got your choice of every MMORPG traditional PVE and PVP play, only Black Gold Online takes that idea and puts a twist to it. Battle carriers. Imagine mounts that you can use solely for war. If a quest is way too difficult to complete solo, look no further, summon your battle carrier, tank/mech/plane for steampunk faction and a dragon/sabertooth tiger/rhino for the fantasy faction, and chop the difficulty level in half. You can even take these battle carriers into war. Large scale battles with players in a zoned area where you fight to capture flags. On one day, I was playing with almost 300 other players in this zone. Battle carriers were key here to defending and capturing flags, along with counterpushing the enemy!

The PVE aspect of the game is unlike any. The instances are made very player friendly by making your set destination simple, or setting a clear goal for defeating the bosses, or questing. There are also these dungeons that are set around the world that you can enter to loot bosses and treasure chests, only these dungeons are also made available to other players. Meaning, when you enter a dungeon to kill a boss, there will be other players in there too, working to get that boss's loot or working to loot the treasure chest.

The PVP is Black Gold Online is mind blowingly amazing. Fast-paced, action-packed, oh, and you can kill any player. ANY PLAYER. Same faction? No problem. If there is a guy annoying the heck out of you, enable "slaughter mod" and enjoy killing people of the same faction. Of course, there is a punishment for this, a ridiculous amount of jail time, or city guards destroying you on sight and then some jail time. Also, those dungeons that I mentioned earlier under the PVE section, yeah, you can enable slaughter mode in the dungeons so that you don't have to share the loot. You can kill everyone and take everything for yourself. Something to point out, the PVP system doesn't seem very noob friendly because of the abilities not having many systems in place for "pretargetting". In other words, you have to aim your abilities, which is nice and fun, but not very beginner friendly.

Overall, I loved this game, and with it being in beta, and at this level of play, I cannot wait to see its full release. Snail Games USA, I look forward to, possibly, the best MMORPG I have every played.

It’s definitely needed some work, but I’m pretty happy with how it’s turned out. It’s a fun game, especially when it comes to PvP. It’s got a ways to go before it will be like my main game, but I enjoy it a bit. Here’s a few things people should know about it:

Leveling: Leveling is pretty quick in BGO, so if you’re into some drawn out progression that’s not here. I actually liked it, because once you leveled up your character there was still a ton to do. There’s a couple of different systems for getting and/or rerolling your gear to get your character’s “Might Score” (gear score) up. Plus there’s a bunch of other cool PvP and stuff, and you’ve got these battle mounts that are sort of like a second type of progression.

Battle Carriers: basically fighting mounts, which is pretty huge, don’t see those in most MMOs. Everyone I talk to agrees a few things need some work: motion and contact stuff, maybe a few more customization options. All in all though, it’s really fun. You can get into these big battles on instanced maps with two sides, between the steamtech dudes and the nature guys. Guys flying in dragons and helicopters, and then us running the ground on tanks, it was a blast.

Classes and Combat: Ok, so the game has a bunch of different classes to choose from. They’re a bit rigid in their progression, but even so they’ve got a bunch of different skills and abilities. Overall there are 4 races and 12 classes, plus word is there are more of each to come. The fighting system still needs some work: contact collision could be better.

Generally, the game has a really cool environment to explore, and it’s a ton of different features to play through, a lot of which don’t even open up until later in the game. A few bits like the class balancing, Quest-line, and contact collision could use work, but all told I’d recommend this for people to play.

After playing Black Gold for about 3 hours I have to say it has a very user unfriendly questing system at times. If you like SM in MMO'sAfter playing Black Gold for about 3 hours I have to say it has a very user unfriendly questing system at times. If you like SM in MMO's (story mode) then this game will offer you an overabundance of reading at times. But the quests can be confusing as to where it starts and ends at times. Graphics leave so much to lack. animations are just simple and almost appear low budget. For instance a motorcycle just goes a little faster than a human running. If you like the Steam punk genre, and you want an MMO to play it in, this is a great game for you. The outfits fit the traditional SP looks granted a wolf the size of a full size sedan with mechanical legs... yeah... #fail

There are a few sites that might still have some booster packs for free. they are mostly timed items (expire in a certain time)

classes feel unbalanced. I should not be able to two shot something two levels above me, so they need to bring some balance. Game play is fast, but still choppy.

    Graphics 6/10
    Sound 7/10
    User Interface 7/10
    Story 7/10
Download speed avg 1.6 mb/sec to 2.6mb/sec so good download servers.

Overall this game needs much more work. Graphics leave much to be desired, and directional sound is barely there. The game is already plagued by gold vendors. Guild creation is horrible. You will constantly get a banned word error. Use a period to separate the word and you're good...

I would not recommend this game until it got a graphics and game engine overhaul. the concept is good, but that black gold farming? Ridiculous.

They were given 100 million $ budget and made an MMO that equals in quality to cheap korean grinders. Its especially sad to see that Snail Game is responsible for this. I really loved Age of Wushu, but Black Gold is utter trash that will only please the most groundling gamers. Expand
