Blasphemous combines extreme difficulty, some religious elements and a beautiful pixel-art-world in a truly fascinating way. Recommended for everybody who does not only want to be entertained, but also challenged.

Blasphemous is a twisted take on religion and Metroidvanias, providing great combat, fantastic visuals and a world that’s soaked in both blood and well-written lore.

Having a subtractive design at its core, Blasphemous doesn't fiddle with the tried-and-true Metroidvania formula. Instead, it keeps things simple and grabs the player's attention with its despondent imagery and its riveting atmosphere and world building.

All in all, I would have liked a bit more narrative narrative and a more level-focused skill design that would not let me search the needle in a haystack in the vast world alone.

You will enjoy with the epic battles from Blasphemous and its amazing retro art style, but this metroidvania action game doesn't reach its best version because a simple combat system and an irregular level design.

Besides the astonishing art design and the rich and imaginative dark-fantasy world, Blasphemous doesn't know how to mix perfectly the different genres it belongs to.

Blasphemous may be a case of style over substance, but that style still carries it a long way. It's very clear that a lot of time and effort went into making this game look and sound as good as possible. If you're craving a well-produced Soulslike or Metroidvania and you don't mind slower combat and a one-note narrative, then Blasphemous will give you an intense fix.

When it follows a formula it does it right, and what is new feels polished and deliberate. Great job game kitchen! Expand

Blasphemous is a good game. But not recommended for those who are new in GAMING, also for those who doesn't like PIXEL related games.

Alright so games like Blasphemous are why there needs to be a 1 out of 10 scale rather than this thumbs up thumbs down sh*t, cause if thereAlright so games like Blasphemous are why there needs to be a 1 out of 10 scale rather than this thumbs up thumbs down sh*t, cause if there was ever a game "in the middle" this would be it. The looks and sound amazing great art direction great sound, and for the most part it plays well-enough but.... it never really quite clicks I always found myself not feeling empowered as a player. And by that I mean I never felt like the hero that this troubled game world needed... I felt more like a some guy that is that's exploring a lot and dying a lot and thank god I have unlimited lives because by god I'm going to use them all (and not to toot my own horn but I am really good at these kinds of games so if I was dying this much new players watch out.)

Now feels like a good time to address the challenge-o-meter on this one on a scale of 1 to 10, 3 it too easy, 5 is your making progress but never super challenged, and eight is frustratingly hard this game sits at a solid 8.2, if it were any (and I do mean even the tiniest bit) harder it would simply be NOT FUN. There were a few times I really felt we had crossed over from the land of video GAMES over to video WORK and that's just never cool.

Lastly a few things to be advised on the map is big and creative BUT the fun is sapped out of it because (nood mistake team 17 that NEED and could so easily be fixed) there are like nowhere close to enough fast travel points so my first play through was around 15 hours and for real about 1/2 of that was spent running and slicing my way to singular upgrade locations or going back to a earlier level to get an up-grade. So the backtracking is real and tediously part of this game. But the game always looks good and plays good for the most part so said back-tracking isn't the kiss of death it could be, but still be prepared to do A LOT (and I mean A LOT) of it.

In the end I'm going to give this a 7.0 out of 10 and that feels really appropriate cause there is so much about this game that scores right in that place of the edge of good game status, if there was just 1 or 2 more things that weren’t in place about this game it would suck, but it doesn’t so its… kind of ok.
